Game of Thrones (Telltale Games)

Having just finished episode 1 at last, I don't really mind if the actual end was pre-determined. It was still a brilliant, gutsy kick in the balls. I was simultaneously horrified and grinning at how 'Thrones-y' it felt.

I genuinely thought I was talking Ramsay round. Yeah I was playing the game with prior knowledge like most, so I knew a level of appeasement was to be expected...but boy did that hit for six. At worst I thought I would have an obstructive and conniving Whitehill to deal with for an episode.

Bought the season pass on a whim tonight after playing through Life is Strange episode 2. And, it is just so much better even after just 30 minutes of play. Great writing and just so much more engaging. Life is Strange gets so much praise, but, reasonably innovative rewind ability aside, its just a moody teenage girl wondering around saying variations of the phrase "Aw this sucks! What should I do?"

Finished episode 3. Enjoyed it although Perhaps preferred the previous episodes.

There didn't seem as much free roaming bits This time and we'll , at times I wonder if you can actually class it as a game due to the choices not really mattering much.

Still the story and writing Keep me hooked enough to play each episode in one viewing.

I vastly preferred this episode to the others. The story is finally moving along properly. The decisions I made in previous episodes are now having proper consequences, and I finally feel like no matter what I do I'm fucking it all up.

Played all three episodes in the last few days. Kind of wished I'd waited until they're all out, as it's been great, so now it's going to be a pain waiting for the next three. Nice that they've got the actual actors to voice the characters from the show.

Episode 4 is now on PSN.

For some reason, I couldn't download it from within the game... it still says "Coming Soon" in the episode list, despite the main title screen proclaiming the arrival of the new episode. Having bought the season pass, I could still grab it for free outside of the game direct from the download page though.

Hmm. I might be a bit weird but I actually dislike the 'game' bits of these and would welcome a version without them, particularly since death is of no consequence at all.

However the actual story I'm enjoying a lot, and really finding myself trying to role play the various characters - biting my tongue when needed, making concessions despite all my instinct being to take bloody revenge, letting hell loose when the time is right.

Another good episode. Agree about the QTEs, not a massive fan of them, thought admittedly if you do get them right first time, there's a buzz to be had, like Mogster says above.

At least two of my decisions where well out of line with what other players have done. At least one of the decisions was a ridiculously easy one to make, so wasn't surprised to see that one scoring highly. I gather Telltale prefer it when decisions split players 50/50? A sign that they've made it a really tough choice, with no obvious right or wrong.

Actually that was meant to be a post in a completely different thread.

I don't mind the QTEs in Telltale's games. I often can't stand them in games where you usually have full control over your actions as they generally have the effect of removing agency for the sake of trying to look cool. Here though they make would would otherwise just be cutscenes a bit more involving, and they're simple enough that it's usually hard to fail them as long as you're paying attention. Even if you do fail the odd prompt, it usually just makes the action a bit more dynamic rather than failing you.

On that note, I failed a QTE that would have been quite cool towards the end of this episode, but boy did the following events make up for it. :D

Mira Forrester for the Iron Throne, it's like Sansa with balls and a brain, she owns.

I was really enjoying this latest episode right up to the end...

..for fuck's sake, just when things start to look up, that motherfucker has to show up again???? At first I thought Gryff had escaped and was laughing but once the penny dropped, ARRRRRRRRRRRRG.

I played most of this in a kind of 'not taking any more shit from any of these fucks no matter what', I even sassed Dany, dragons or no.

I like Mira a lot but it feels like absolutely *everything* she does is going to have terrible consequences for her. Which I suppose is the point, but somehow even amongst Ramsay Bolton and crazy Dany she feels the most vulnerable.

God damnit, was hoping this bump meant that Episode 5 was out! A little naive I guess, it's probably at least 3-4 weeks away.

Anyway yes, this is excellent, I'm sure after Episode 1 you'll all be hooked.

Finally got around to playing this. I was growing a bit weary of the Telltale formula but must admit I was pleasantly surprised. On par with TWD season 1 I think. The material suits this style of game very well. Hoping for Ep. 5 towards the end of this month.

Jesus Christ. I think Episode 5 has one of the hardest choices to date (across all TT games!)

That was brutal, but Telltale are really showing how much they've learned with this

Tried to play along with Ramsay, didn't work, so started calling him out on bullshit - but didn't try to stab him

Was honest with Dany, but didn't reveal Beshka's past after she didn't let me. Agreed to let Malcolm stay

Impressed the beast, Spared Bloodsong, Gave a kick ass speech

Was honest(ish) with Cersi, tried to play Tyrion but he called me out (based on the wine, so I assume it's impossible to "win" that)

Gerrad's storyline seems the dullist and it's hard to see how it'll pay off/help

I got Royland as traitor - given how vague the dialogue was around it, and the choice is listed as "the traitor" I'm assuming there's other options based on your choices? Imprisoned him though.

The last choice. Fuck man. Horrid options - especially after Roderick's KICK ASS burning of the crutch and suiting up. Like both characters...first time left the choice too long and they went out together into a game over. In the end went with Asher escaping. He's the "True" Lord as first born, a better fighter and has the sellswords. Tough choice though, liked them both....Roderick got his end away though, and there's no tactical advantage from the marriage now...

Telltales summary tells me it's 50:50 for each option for the last choice! Not surprised

Edit - Roderick's gone from the character shots on the title page already!

Damn man. I'm drained after that.

Just played all of these up to date after starting episode one a couple of months ago and never finishing it.

TWD S1 remains something really special, for me, but this is right up there. Can't wait to see how it all ends up.

Also, I'm getting significantly more feels than I ever did in TWAU, even though it was such an interesting world to be in.

I suppose I really should try the Borderlands thing sometime...!
