Every dimension we've seen until now has been limited to that subset of the multiverse in which Rick is the smartest being in the universe, and it's been impossible for anyone on the Citadel to access dimensions where that's not the case.

 

... so where did Doofus Rick and Slow Rick/Tall Morty come from?  Maybe they too are the smartest beings in their universes...

The 'central finite curve' is actually a genuinely brilliant sci-fi concept. The idea that a narcissist who invents inter-dimensional travel would cut himself off from travelling to any dimension where he's not its smartest being is fantastic.

 

I know it's their shtick, but I sort of wish they hadn't crammed it all into a couple of minutes' exposition at the end and had given it a bit more scrutiny because it's a fucking great idea. Especially as the anime pastiche at the start seemed like a bit of a waste of time.

The Rick and Morty team seem to absolutely overestimate how invested I am in their universe. In as much as they have no idea who I am, obviously.

 

Can't wait for more Solar Opposites, which has everything I like about Rick and Morty without Dan Harmon ferociously staring into his own anus.

From reading fan comments elsewhere online, you'd think that the problem is the opposite: that the creators have been disrespecting - and actively trolling - fans who are invested in the series' continuity.

 

Places like the Reddit threads on each episode have been home to two sets of fans. The ones complaining "When are they going to progress the Evil Morty plot? They've been doing nothing but one-off standalone episodes for ages now (which aren't as good as seasons 1-3 anyway)! How dare they throw away the Evil Morty plot with a throwaway joke in the Story Train episode!"

 

And the ones replying: "Stop feeling so entitled! They don't owe you any episodes at all! They'll get to it when they feel like it! The creators have even said that they don't like doing continuity-heavy episodes! In fact, syndication money means they have an incentive to make more episodes that can be shown in any order!"

I enjoy standalone adventures, I enjoy the ones with continuity. What I don't enjoy is Dan Harmon constantly masturbating over how meta he is. It eventually ruined Community. As someone else said, I'm also enjoying Solar Opposites more than Rick and Morty nowadays as it doesn't have that baggage.

I like Solar Opposites, but I haven't felt any urgency to watch any of it since the start of season 2. That's partly because something about it feels a lot less substantial than Rick and Morty.

 

But also, I honestly find that Solar Opposites feels more mean-spirited than R&M. Which is saying something, given how many callous, vicious, neglectful, and petty actions are depicted in R&M!

 

I'm probably wrong about that (Rick has done much nastier things than imprisoning people who slight him in the Wall, while Solar Opposites pulled its punches with the resolution to the ultra-violent pollen/pheromone episode). But that's how the two series come across to me.

Yeah, I don't get the lore complaints. Other shows would have dragged that plot line out over every season, and that info dump would have been 12 episodes.

 

Here they just went, fuck it, we'll dump some lore because it'll let us shake up the status quo for a bit anyway. And then they'll probably retcon the entire thing at a random point for badness.

Yes, much as I liked most of this series I couldn’t help finding these last two episodes mostly boring.

 

Having said that, I’m watching loads of Bob’s Burgers at the moment, and I enjoy that loads more so maybe I’m off the whole R&M flavour.
