The Unofficial Rllmuk Awards 2013 - The Results! Today: Game of the Year: 10 to 1

Genuinely can't understand why both Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite were so well regarded. Although the rest of the top 10 seems pretty decent (not played GTAV).

Just started playing EDF 2025. If thus isn't the GotY for 2014, heads will roll.

As I say, I've not actually played the game, I'd just heard that the accent was a bit bobbins. I'll judge it for myself when I inevitably play the game; compare it to my own dulcet tones and decide if it's any good or not ;)

Ah, Kenway was one of the nice surprises in Black Flag.

Shame that Brothers didn't strike a chord with you, but it seems to have been ruined for you by the mysoginy thing. I must say, I didn't even pick up on that at all, just loved it.

Good work on the thread mate.

Next years awards have been renamed The Unofficial Dark Souls 2 Awards 2014

Fixed that for you.

Seriously though, other than that, what's *really* lining up to be special this year? MGSV could be good. But other than that I'm struggling.

Yeah, that made things all the worse. If I'd gone in expecting it the impact would have been much lessened, but as it was it blindsided me and undid everything that I'd liked about the game.

Fixed that for you.

The Banner Saga already was rather special already, and Wasteland 2 (and Pillars of Eternity, if it comes out in 2014) look to be pretty spectacular resurrections of the traditional party-based western RPG. Oh, and The Witcher 3 promises to be amazing. And I'm actually curious to see Dragon Age 3, which is surprising considering what a mess DA2 was.

Well done, Wiper :slowclap:. I have to say, however, you're a harsh critic (!).

And I go back to my (original) comments about Brothers (when I thought you were indeed going on about Brothers): I can't say that I noticed any misogyny in the game, and even with your itemisation of what you think is misogynistic about it, I still don't think it's misogynistic overall. I will say, however, that if you thought Brothers was 'insidious' for this reason and considerably pissed you off, playing GTA V to any extent may well give you an aneurysm.

Aye he's from Swansea and his accent's perfectly fine.

Having spent five years at Swansea, I can confirm that a Swansea accent is about as far from 'fine' as imaginable ;)

Well, I suppose it's better than Rhyl, at least.

Well, GTA at least isn't insidious, insofar as it's pretty up front about being a nice work of chauvinism. I do imagine I'll find it hard to enjoy, though, yes.

Though I would like to draw your attention to alistarr's comments on Super Mario 3D World - should give you some idea as to how Nintendo manage to top the critical charts continually. You couldn't buy better loyalty!

Haha, I didn't buy GTA either and I knew where to put that in my list too!

Many thanks again for pulling all of this together again.

For a game that breathes life into a stale genre. Yes, I'd say it's very low.

On the other hand it's a Vita exclusive (though Mario is Wii-U only...), and while it breathes life into a stale genre, anybody who's already bounced off said genre is unlikely to want to give it a chance. As much as it may have deserved to be higher, I can understand why it didn't, and was actually pleasantly surprised to see it reach the top 10.

Amazing work Wiper. The top 3 were kind of the ones I expected to see, but I couldn't be certain which order they'd be in. :D I'm actually really satisfied to see P4G (my own 2013 GOTY) rate so highly because last year saw some amazing games released, and I thought I was being optimistic in hoping that Atlus' game would rate in the top 30 or 20 at best. Anyway, hats off to all of the voters and to Wiper for proving that we're a forum of taste :P

I think it's done pretty well for a port of a six-year-old game, on a console which is only owned by a minority of forumites (albeit a very vocal one).

Unfortunately, you're right on both counts. Although the Vita thread is increasing in population every day, there's hope for it yet.

I'm sure that Smitty will agree with me that the bit where I didn't vote for Tomb Raider, and 31 other forumites did, means that my taste is unequivocally better than the forum average ;)

Good read, appreciate the work you've put in (and after you previous list, I did one for horror films in the movie folder, so I know how much work they entail) and I'm very much glad you've included comments from people who voted for them in the final countdown. It was pretty much my only gripe about the last lists, and you've addressed that, which I think adds a lot to it. Just to add again, I've nothing in particular against you putting your opinions in, in fact I enjoy reading them even if I dont agree with them, but now it feels more like a celebration of the games the forum loved, rather than "Wipers soapbox about why he hates most games" ;) But seriously, appreciate that you've changed it, even if I didnt realise you were till it was too late to add comments to my choices!

Yeah, I realised once I started tallying results that I should have mentioned that I would be using quotes up front - my fault. If I do anything similar in future I'll be sure to make it clear (I'll probably change the formatting too when I collect the data, so that I can automatically put the quotes into, er, quotes, rather than having them as an italicised mess).
