It’s been a while but I did a full run through when my youngest was up feeding in the night. It’s probably no surprise that the sexual politics of the early films have not aged well at all in my opinion. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember that in OHMSS James has it away with more than one woman in a ski lodge and then immediately comes down and proposes to Diana Rigg.

The Bond films certainly have scenes that are questionable by today's standards, from Bond's treatment of women to Connery's 'transformation' to being asian in You Only Live Twice.

What really stands out though is how they have persisted with this trope even as the rest of the world moved on around them. Skyfall, for example, was released only 10 years ago to critical acclaim but features Bond forcing himself on a woman whom he knows to be a sex slave. The media will freak out if the next Bond is more progressive than the misogynist he has been throughout the series' history, but the Clarksons of the world already have 20+ films where Bond was allowed to make any woman his property.

Just checked the Bond titles on Prime and the maximum any of them go to is HD.

Even the Craig ones which have had 4K releases.

Weirded still, the option to buy a 4K version doesn't appear to be available on the LG TV app for Prime.

Has nobody else watched the start of Outer Range yet?

I've just finished the 1st one and it's got me sucked in straight away. For the first episode of a new thing that I've invested no time in so far, there was stuff in there that had me on the very seat of my pants.

It's kind of got that other worldliness of the first series of True Detective.

Which is A Good Thing

I've been watching Mythbusters on IMDB.tv Freevee and it's still holds up. The season organisation however is a complete mess and doesn't seem to match the order on Wikipedia and it only has the first seven seasons of the show.  Whatever AI Amazon is using the the ad breaks suck, even though as a US show it's already edited to take into account ad breaks they still cut into the program at random points andI keep seeing the same ads over and over again, I'm starting to develop an irrational hatred of David Baddiel and Faye Ripley because the ad for their podcast appears constantly

Has anyone here done a rewatch of the older Bond films in recent years ?

Rewatched From Russia with Love recently. Kerim Bey is still one of my favourite Bond characters:

Shame he was dying when he made the film.

If it's not enough to have 12 seasons of 60+ episodes each of Aussie Masterchef to watch (I came to it very late only a year ago on Watch TV, it's so much better than the UK one which I've ditched totally) they've just added a small 'amuse bouche' of Masterchef Singapore, which is only 8 eps.

Really odd that Outer Range was showing up in banners yesterday and today wasn't showing up at all. I had to search for it, which didn't go well as I was looking for ranch something or something ranch.

Watched the first episode.  Not sure I'm into it.  Felt a bit slow and didn't really build up much tension.  Liked the end though, so interested to see what happens next.

Outer Range didn’t really grab me in the way I’d hoped. Maybe because everything shown is about the concept so characters aren’t given any space to grow? Two episodes in of course, will stick with it. Cast is good. Regarding the mystery:

Spoiler

hope there is more to it than just time travel holes.

MasterChef Australia is our ultimate "we feel a bit shitty today and need cheering up" show. At least until Gary, George and Matt left (so up to end of S11 if memory serves).

It's just so friendly and feel-good. Even when people are cooking against each other they remain civil and want the best for their competition.

Compare that to MasterChef US where I'm amazed there isn't an actual body count at times or the UK One where Gregg Wallace just likes shouting everything.

Aussie Bake-Off is good too (All4).

Outer Range is really odd in that it’s probably 60% a rancher drama about boring land rights, angry cowboys and poor choices and 40% about that stupid hole from one of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. I don’t know if I like it after 2 episodes but the big sky shots are pretty immense.

Glad Amazon have all of Bond as I finally saw No Time to Die. Didn’t really do anything for me but having them all in there means I don’t have to get out my From Russia with Love Blu Ray.

I don't get Aussie Masterchef. They've added such a lot of reality TV bullshit, and I hate reality TV, that I find it hard to watch as it seems so manipulative. I also can't believe how many episodes they manage to drag out of each series, it's ridiculous.

Night Sky looks interesting. Starts May 20th.

Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are in it. They have a chamber buried in their back yard that miraculously leads to a strange, deserted planet. Leading to all sorts of weird shenanigans.

Edit- it has a pretty great trailer on Amazon Prime which I thought I could post here, but can I fuck find a link to it. Looks pretty interesting though (it's front and centre on Amazon Prime for me)

Maybe all the ext. trailers were produced with the original show name, and got pulled?

Slowly working through the Craig era Bond movies with my son. Most I haven't seen for years, and we're 3 down so far.

Casino Royale - still really enjoyed this. Good pacing, good story, good acting. Currently my fave.

Quantum Of Solace - there's the bare bones of a reasonable story in here, but it's so badly held together. It's still edited into oblivion, which is a shame because there's a lot of great choreography and a real kinetic feel to the action when you can actually make it out. But it's still my least favourite one.

Skyfall - probably the best first and (mostly) second act, but I still find it all completely falls apart in the third. Love the villain, though.

Next up, Spectre, a movie I've never been able to make it through. Should go well!

Ah great, thanks @JohnC

Another 2 EPs of Outer Range out today too and it continues to be great. It's such a mish-mash though, there's a really tense atmosphere to the internal family stuff with Josh Brolin's brood and the mystery about their thing, then theres the feud with their neighbours along with the fallout from the other thing that happened in episode 1.

The sci-fi elements are just a bonus that pop up every now and again through each episode although I'm sure this will become the focus of the story. But there's also a rich vein of dry humour there, along with some pretty weird characters popping up all over the place.

Already though, I can feel quite a few of these threads making connections to each other. I hope they pull this off over the full run but even if they dont, I'm along for the ride now, it's really good. And it looks fucking great too.
