Amazon Prime Video

Just binged all 4 of OUTER RANGE. Loving it. Needs its own thread.

Brolin is great. As is Tom Pelphry (from Banshee). The actor who plays Rhett is the image of his Dad (I assume he’s Bill Pullman’s son).

And, I also assume (speculation)

Spoiler

that Autumn (Poots) is the daughter Amy grown up? Maybe a bit obvious though.

Roll on the next eps!

Am I correct in thinking that amazon freevee stuff still contains ads even if you are watching through prime and have a prime subscription?

Yes; that's why they punted stuff off onto it. So they can sell your viewing habits to more people.

I notice that they have started to put the words "UHD" next to the Prime banner when it's part of the Prime sub - however this is bollocks - there are some that are UHD/HDR such as "Passengers", but the majority of others - such as "Oblivion" are only available if you pay for them.

Apart from Disney+ I'm getting a bit fed up with both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix's completely mixed up efforts on 4K film content, Netflix especially I think I'll be dumping the sub back down to normal HD once Saul finishes, the 4K content is worthless really for the film content they currently have.

Started watching Ten Percent this week, which is Amazon's remake of the French show 'Call My Agent' - not watched the original so can't compare. This feels like it's had a few quid spent on landing some bigger names, first ep seemed a bit frantic but second was a bit better.

Highlight so far is Blackadder's Lord Percy (Tim McInnerny) doing a turn as an ageing super theatrical luvvie

I see the 90s comedy gang "Kids In The Hall" have got back together to make a new series for Prime, and it seems to be getting decent write-ups. As someone who enjoyed them back in the day, I'm kinda intrigued to see it, but I'm not sure if it's available on the UK service ... does anyone know?

yeah, but there’s also some blackface…

I must have not noticed that first time around. It was a while ago...

Edit - although a quick Google seems to imply a recurring blackface character was supposed to be a white guy in blackface. Though I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes.

Night Sky looks interesting. Starts May 20th.

Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are in it. They have a chamber buried in their back yard that miraculously leads to a strange, deserted planet. Leading to all sorts of weird shenanigans.

Edit- it has a pretty great trailer on Amazon Prime which I thought I could post here, but can I fuck find a link to it. Looks pretty interesting though (it's front and centre on Amazon Prime for me)

This is interesting, but the idiot dickhead neighbour isn't doing it any favours.

I’m hoping someone here can watch all of Night Sky and report back that it doesn’t yank massively halfway through. Outer Range looked exciting but I’m glad people here saved me the effort (and limited telly time).

Lucy Mangan in the Guardian gave it 3 stars and she is usually very critical of stuff, so that suggests it could be a 4-star show for someone like me.

well i watched it.

its erm...slow...and kinda entirely like build up to something that could be good if it gets a season 2, which it needs!

Argh, we’ll that’s frustrating. “It could get good if S2 happens” is a definite No for me. Give me a self-contained series that finishes well, and then if another series is commissioned, great! But none of this cliffhanger series finale nonsense thanks.

I've just finished "Night Sky".

It's a slow burn, but I found it really enjoyable and while there's lots of questions to be answered if they do a second series (As seems the norm these days) I am happy I watched the first regardless if it continues or not.
