The new minimum specs for the Rift mean it's fairly comparable to an RRP Slim in cost. Sure, it's not going to be a perfect experience but neither is a PS4.

But with the PS4 you have Sony and third parties to make the experience better for you on PS4 with plenty of new games that will work right out the box, with a cheap gaming PC you are limited to what you can get optimised yourself (which won't be much). I have a gaming PC comparable to a PS4 and I have wasted money on games that aren't compatible with my graphics card, never mind the time i've wasted messing about to get a game to the settings I feel are best rather than being able to just play the game and be happy.

Unless you spent shameful amounts of cash for an excellent gaming PC then I wouldn't bother trying VR with a low cost budget "gaming" PC.

I think my concern would be that vr doesn't take off and the support disappeared pretty much over night, just like the vita or wii u. And your left waiting three months for the next shit release. And your stuck with a very pricy purchase.

Sit back and relax, let us early adopters take the plunge.

Not necessarily if you have to trade in your PS4 to get a PS4 Pro because Drive club shows the original console isn't up to the job....

Picking at straws?

You can't include the PS4 as an initial outlay in that example. People spend about the same amount the PS4 Pro will cost on a graphics card but you can't start bringing the cost of upgrades for a PC into the argument either.

I will be impressed if they can pull this off on the PS4 as you really do currently need such a high end PC with a 1080 video card to even get it to look and run "ok".

BUT, even saying that,  up to a certain point, graphics are not such a big a deal as the worlds in VR you experience and so immersive initially.

I just played the kitchen Resident Evil 7 demo.

Oh my god! I'm fully convinced that if the main game is anywhere near as scary my wife is going to come downstairs one morning and find me dead from a heart attack, with a VR visor still stuck to my face.

Got my shipping notification through from Amazon, and as a nice added bonus got a cheque from United Utilities for the "hardship suffered" from that heavy rain we had in Manchester the other week....which is nice :) (some water got into the cellar at the flats here)

That's just PC gaming vs. console gaming. There's obviously benefits to PSVR, but it's certainly not a bargain.

Mine's apparently going to turn up on Friday from Amazon. Good job I have a Game one that I forgot to cancel that should be here tomorrow.

...and just had the email from Game saying it will be delivered tomorrow. At least they have seen sense and decided to use DPD so I know when it's actually going to be delivered.

Did you get any motion sickness? I heard terrible things about the VR demo from a motion sickness perspective, although I did hear that they had tweaked some things after the poor feedback to make it more comfortable for people.

No, but I did nearly break our PS4 as I pulled back so much I nearly pulled it off the table it was on.

Did your Amazon delivery date just change, then?

At what point will we know how many units sold?  Anyone have an idea?

When they hit 500,000 I bet.

i think the way to go for VR right now is to supplement bigger games with VR content like final fantasy, call of duty and tomb raider . It's a good idea and could down a spin off game.

The point being that even developers don't know what gamers want from a VR game.

still no dispatch from Amazon though I'm not too worried. Amazon would normally be the last place I would pre order but they were the first to make it available.

Up until this afternoon it stated 'Arriving Thursday'. I'm guessing this was just a placeholder as they were dispatching the units in order of when pre-ordered. I ordered mine on the afternoon of it going live on Amazon so there must be a shed load before me.

The Kitchen demo is different to the proper Resi 7 demo isn't it?

I thought the former was a sat down experience strapped into a chair, while the latter is a walking around a house experience with an old VHS tape to play, or somesuch.

Kitchen is the sat in the chair one where I shat myself. Is there another demo then?

WAIT!

Did we know about this:

https://m.reddit.com/r/PSVR/comments/5731qk/psa_use_the_calibration_options_within_the_ps4/

There are detailed calibration options for the headset within the PS4 devices submenu. Supposedly greatly improves tracking and allows for per-user digital IPD adjustment, so you get the best depth effect. Never heard about this before.

Remember when you were a kid and you thrust your master system's joypad into your mum's hand and said, "play, play its' amazing!" and they just waved the controller around and felt a bit sick as Hang On's crazy graphics whizzed by?

Then they acted all confused and said then said that playing games was bad for your brain, 'cos it hurt theirs and started limiting your playtime?

That'll be us, with our kids, and VR.

"Stop playing that Son, it'll make you sick"

"Shut it dad, I'm flying down the grand canyon, whilst spinning rapidly to shoot six thousand 4D shapes and just why can't you keep up."

I do have to question the wisdom of preordering anything with Amazon after the colossal cocks ups from the 360 launch back in 2005.

And the 3DS! They sent out the Super Saver Deliveries two days before so they got there for launch, and left the expedited deliveries until the last minute - then didn't have time to dispatch them all. Utter shite.
