I think there’s a optimum position for sharpness overall but there’s no question that due to the low res and the net like effect that sits over the top it’s always going to be hazier than a TV picture. I just find that I don’t care after a bit because of the immersion. I would love a version with considerably higher resolution for PS5.

Ive never done the eye tracking calibration. Has it make much difference to people?

It's not a drastic difference, but every little helps.

Anyone played ADR1FT (astronaut game)? It's cheap in the sale, and I've read it has VR - but the description in the shop doesn't even mention it (maybe as it was patched in?) Can anyone confirm?

They never patched VR for the PSVR version. And they wont at this stage either.

it's been a while since I VR'd

I took firewall for a spin earlier, just the tutorial, and training, but as soon as I enabled/disabled smooth/segmented turning (it's not clearly labelled) i nearly repeated my dinner.

it's weird. on the one hand the 30 degree turn method isn't enough to keep up with my intent, but at the same time I've lost my VR legs for full FPS controls.

it doesn't feel the same as farpoint.

I got that there Firewall today, it’s pretty damn inpressive but brutal online in the 3 games I had - I think I need to calibrate the aim controller as when I did that on connection I wasn’t where I play and it seems slightly off!

I also had some proper leg wobble at first but that went quickly, think I need free aim on the right stick as the notchy one feels odd and messes with my usual FPS game!

What other aim controller games are worth picking up?

Moss is currently about £15 on the US and Canadian stores at the moment. It’s the first time it’s ever been on sale afaik, so it would be rude not to.

I went for the Canadian version, because Canada.

Just in case someone blunders in, cheap on Steam too for the PC crowd.

So Astrobot really is something isn’t it. It feels genuinely revolutionary to me as far as platformers go certainly.

I’ve only done the first world. The boss had me grinning from ear to ear throughout and there were so many stunning wow moments. It’s astonishing.

I’ll tell you what though. If the game has first person movement I basically can’t play it.

I just tried Rush of Blood. I felt sightly uncomfortable in the opening scene but the second it goes down the first drop I instantly felt like I was going to throw up and had to rip the headset off. I still feel shit an hour later. Tetris VR, Batman and Beat Saber have been absolutely fine. Astro bot has had a few moments but has been generally okay. Odyssey, Luge, Rush of Blood and Rez all fucked me up within seconds. It’s such a mixed bag but at least what type of game is causing it. Anything with movement basically.

Am I right that some more recent games like Robinson and Wipeout have ‘comfort’ settings that have helped with this sort of thing? Have they gotten better because I’m conscious that all those ones I’ve said there are pretty early games. TBH though there’s more than enough brilliance that I’ve seen already that doesn’t make me hurl to make the purchase worthwhile.

God, RE7 is amazing, isn't it? Just an incredible feeling of being there!

I'm trying to forget the whole Resi7 experience just so I can play through it again. Amazing game (although it does start out on a high so the later levels can feel a bit of a comedown) but my god what an experience.

You WILL get it though - I struggled at first with the last part of the Astrobot VR playroom thing they did, he goes down a slide and I was fine until that moment.  Then Ultrawings had me gipping.  But it's weird - you kind of forget, as long as you stop playing as soon as you start to feel unwell, you won't have any problems within a few play sessions.

Thats interesting as that’s the exact bit in astrobot demo that got me.

I've been taking this very very slowly after a rough experience at launch, playing short stints every few days, but even with ten or fifteen minutes, I've found that if I play of an evening I will really struggle to get to sleep and I have a weird feeling that I'm looking at the inside of my eyelids when I close my eyes. Honestly, that's a pretty horrible sensation.

I suspect that my anxiety about having another terrible time with it is partly preventing me from enjoying it but at the same time, even ten minutes with Astro Bot means I don't get to sleep until I'm completely exhausted at 3am or something. I feel I'm imposing condition after condition on how and when I use this and I pretty much only feel comfortable playing Tetris Effect and even that affects my sleep and slightly weirds out my vision.

I've no desire to get rid of it and I suppose I generally feel that these things are either slightly less bad or I feel slightly less concerned as time goes on but it's obviously notable enough and unpleasant enough for me to be writing this at 6am after another night of only a few hours sleep due to VR. I am definitely not getting the most out of it at this stage and stuff like Resi, Wipeout and Skyrim seem even less likely and palatable now than when I first got the thing.

I find the dire warnings you get on starting VR software have something of a psychological effect! I was sure I wasn't going to be affected by motion sickness beforehand, but seeing all those warnings made me think "uh-oh, maybe there is something to this". In the end, I got used to left sticking walking fairly easily, but right stick style smooth viewpoint movement makes me feel a bit off. Segmented / blink turning (like RE7 offers) is absolutely fine. I did have to turn it off to try to beat one of the bosses for RE7, so it does hamper the gameplay somewhat, but it seems a very good compromise for comfort.

I got my VR a few weeks back during the sales. Astro Bot is crazy good! I am such a dork playing it, it's so impressive. One little disappointment is the music - it's really good, but as there's only so many tracks, some levels have tunes which don't really fit. But still very lovely.

I've also been on Star Trek: Bridge Crew with friends. We all barely know anything about the show (sorry) but it's a blast. Not likely to cause sickness since you're just sat in chairs. You don't even need VR and it's crossplay with PC as well! Buy.

So I bought Rush, had a few goes and it seems okay.

In other news, for those that don't know, there is a patch for Beat Saber which adds a new song. I don't think it's going to do anything for the people who don't like the stuff that's already on there.

Also seems that IGN pretty quickly removed their 3/10 review of Borderlands. It did seem strange seeing as they have been the site that seems to have had the most access to it in the run up to launch indeed that video above from them shows off all the control methods pretty well. It's therefore very strange that the review trashed it because according to the review; you can't turn off blinkers, you can't strafe or free turn/move with moves, and you can't jump.... So basically everything that the video above shows that you can do. Someone done fucked up.

Borderlands is Borderlands. Plays great with a DualShock on the sofa. Looks lovely - the cel shaded graphics suit VR really well. All comfort settings off with turning set to gradual seems to work well for me. Whether or not it’s worth £40 to play it again is up to you I guess. I’m only 30 mins in so far, but I can see me sinking quite a bit of time into this.
