This game understands how to use scale in VR

Great point! It's so hard to get across the idea of size and scale on a flat telly. Anything that fills the screen is basically just obscuring the view! But when it happens in VR, its this 'whoah' moment that completely draws you in :)

Yes the scale is something that really has to be experienced.

Some of the "big things" coming towards me in Astro bot brought on a few moments of real fear, which is astonishing considering how colourful and friendly the game is, and I'm nearly 50.

I've not even got a problem with the RRP if it were even remotely possible to find a double pack for £79.99.

But they seem to be currently going for very nearly the price of the headset.

I got a set from Amazon Italy for £46. Have a look on there.

Good, innit?

It feels like the revolution's happened and people are gradually discovering it. I bought one after hearing lots of good things about RE VII and that moment when you realise the game has changed is something else. I remember just sitting looking at tins in the Resi house and grinning like an bloody idiot.

VR is a hard sell to those who are not seeking it out, you need to experience it first had to fully understand, no amount of screenshots or positive hearsay will be able to get across the sheer scale of everything and how new and amazing it feels.

I am a prime example, I worked on a VR game and tried out the shark demo on a development kit around the programmers houseabout 3 years ago and I didn't even get my own headset until this Xmas and it wasn't until I sat down in the comfort of my own home that I fully realised the possibilities. It's annoyed me a bit cuz there is so much more that we could of done with our game had I understood exactly what it can do.

Wonderful post by hmm which echoes my first session.

I bought Ping Pong as a punt.

It was only about £2.30 and although it is very arcadey I'm loving it. There's a fantastic mini game in it called 'hit the target' which is gaming crack. Once you get into the flow with it you feel proper Forrest Gump.

Just don't expect a simulation of real Table Tennis as I find you have to be quite conservative and gentle with shots but I've had a brilliant afternoon trying to smash my high scores. Well worth a try if you see it in a sale.

Now that's interesting, I'm a vive user who keeps glancing at PS VR for Tetris, Astro Bot and Wipeout.  So far my brain has been able to stop me literally buying 2 VR sets but that's damned useful information.

I have a Rift and totally disagree. My PSVR camera was attached to the top of my wall mounted tv and the tracking was really poor in certain games. Superhot especially when you’re picking stuff up of the floor. I also had drift to the left side that happened gradually in pretty much every game. I upgraded to the Pro and even with that, visuals are clearly inferior to the Rift. Still, for the price PSVR is an absolute no brainer but although I’ve never tried Vive, my understanding was it’s the pinnacle of VR. You need to factor in the Move controllers as well as they aren’t great in comparison to what HTC and Oculus have instead. I’m not shitting on PSVR as it’s user friendly VR for the masses but I’m stunned that someone is claiming it’s better than a Vive.

Rift and vive may be technically superior but if psvr has the games people want to play and pc doesn't then the superior hardware doesn't mean much.

It seems to have all gone very quiet regarding pcvr recently.

Steam VR Top Sellers

There’s plenty of stuff on there that isn’t available on PSVR. The Oculus Store has things like Lone Echo and The Climb that are both very good and exclusive. I’m not sure about Vive exclusives as I don’t have one but PSVR isn’t the be all and end all of VR.

The Epic Store has just given away the very highly related Subnautica for free. Why isn’t that game on PSVR? The PlayStation version is the ordinary one it seems?

The long answer is: We haven’t made any decisions about PSVR. However, the performance challenges of stuffing Subnautica onto console are already daunting. In this context, ‘performance’ means how fast the game runs, or how many ‘Frames Per Second’ (FPS) we can achieve.

High frame rates are crucial for VR. We are already battling hard achieve stable, consistent FPS above 30 on consoles, and VR requires 60+. Perhaps in the future, once we have achieved strong performance on PS4, we could revisit the question. But for now, it’s safe to assume PSVR is not on the horizon.

I have an Oculus Go that functions as a lovely appetizer of VR, but now with my appetite whetted, I find I hunger for something more substantial.  PSVR would seem to be that, what with the interesting & involved experiences it has such as Moss & Astro Bot & the new way of seeing older experiences such as Rez Infinite & Tetris Effect, but I still hesitate.  I'd have to do a lot of shuffling around with my gaming setup to make room for the PSVR & it's assorted cables, so i'm not sure it's worth it.

Today I think I'll have a go on Astro Bot, seeing as it's so highly regarded. And also I enjoyed the little sample level in the VR Playroom. Incidentally, is it possible to get all 20 robots in that level with one player, or do some require two?

You need 2 players to get 100% in the demo, and the full game is one player only.

Got the megapack version of this from shopto for £186 earlier in the week, which comes with Astrobot, Doom VFR, Skyrim VR and Wipeout. Wasn't due to arrive until the 4th January but has turned up this afternoon, which is ideal for NYE entertainment. I gameshare with a guy who already has one so I'd already dl'ed a load of the games he'd bought. Are there are any obvious essentials missing from the list (his purchases)below:

- Batman:Arkham VR

- Carnival Games VR

- Creed - Rise to Glory

- Keep talking and nobody explodes

- Rigs

- Rollercoaster Dreams

- Spiderman Homecoming

- Statik

- Stranger Things

- Surgeon Simulator

- The Playroom

- Tumble VR

- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

I've just bought these:-

- Thumper

- Headmaster

- Moss

- Star Wars Battlefront

- Polybius

-Everest VR

Going to wait on a price drop on Tetris and Beat Sabre.
