This is an unprecedented way of chasing down a voice actor right?

Want to do a big favour for Team Grounding? We’ve been looking for Apollo Smile, the voice actor who made Ulala special from the very beginning. She may have retired… but if anyone knows anything about Apollo Smile, please email us at press@g-rounding.com!

Anybody got any connections to Sega here?

Ace impressions, something I never thought I'd say but PSVR has been the most social games platform in our house, had friends round who aren't in to games at all and they've really enjoyed Beat Saber, Tetris Effect and playing I Expect You To Die as a group.

So next up in our house on the new toy is my son, 25, die hard XBox player who has more or less refused to touch a PS4 controller, ever.

He's convinced by the prospect of trying Superhot, mainly because I promised punching and shooting. Although the game is more or less monochrome, there are grunts of appreciation as he looks round and takes in his surroundings. He takes out the enemies in the first few scenarios with ease, and swaggers his way to the first challenging scene when you have throwing and catching do, as well as punching and shooting. Soon he's ducking, turning and cursing as a bullet takes him out for the 4th or 5th time. But now he's catching guns quickly and dual wielding like Lara Croft. All too soon the demo is done and he's keen for more. Another hooked on the concept and execution by getting hands on.

He played youth football to a reasonable standard so I convince him to stay on for the Headmaster demo. He scores three stars on the first level and grasps impact and angle quickly, realising the game is pretty accurately responsive to each.

His verdict - very good, more shooters would be good.

Me - Superhot is on the buy list but how I'd love some sort of Time Crisis remake.

I'm back on to find more Astro Bots now, done level 1-4. Another wow moment when our gaming room was transformed in to a cave and waterfall system. Mrs Magicaldrop loved that but found the dodging and jumping a bit overwhelming. No idea how she would have coped with the tightropes. Thought that was a pretty clever mechanic, effectively a great evolution of Link's hook shot. And hooked I am.

I tell thee; you need to add PSVR to the thread title to make it easier to find!

I've not pulled fire on this yet, however with No Mans Sky coming - it's got to be done.

So my question is - move controllers. I suspect they're needed/or for the full experience?

Not for every game, but for the games that make use of them, essential.

I'll be honest, I've held off buying/playing one or two VR games purely because they didn't offer move support. Resi 7 being the major one.

Once you've played Skyrim in VR, the possibilities for the tech really come to the fore.

Somewhat ironically, I feel NMS may well be better with a pad.

Sony seem to be going all in with PSVR. I'd initially decided to sit out this gen of PSVR and wait for inevitable improvements for the PS5 version, but there's so much quality content now and the price has come down so much, that I'm almost certain to get one as soon as I've got the pennies saved. The Iron Man game is being sold as a full open world single player game too, so it really does seem like they've decided to throw as much investment in the system as necessary to make VR commercially viable.

Spent some time this evening with Until Dawn:Rush of Blood. For a time there I really thought I was rolling at speed downhill, the sense of movement is very cleverly done. Some of the shocks are predictable but the shooting is good, the overall atmosphere is tense and there's enough in there for plenty of an arcade style score attack. Definitely worth the fiver or so in the sale. Just need to sell on the disc copy I ordered this morning, about an hour before the Spring Sale went live

New song added to beat saber - crab rave!

That was a great announcement by Beat Games, "This is not an April Fool, Crab Rave will be available later today!".

Monster Cat Vol.1 pack is slowly growing on me.

Just reading up on this, and it sounds really fun! Uses the Move controllers as Iron Man's thrusters and weapons, so everything is done with the arms - flying, moving, shooting.

https://venturebeat.com/2019/04/02/how-the-flying-fantasy-of-iron-man-vr-came-to-be-on-psvr/

Payton’s studio, Camafloj, finally revealed what it was doing this week with Iron Man VR. They have been trying to perfect Iron Man’s flights of fancy in the three-dimensional spaces of virtual reality. I tried it out, and the experience is immersive. You point the PlayStation Move controllers, with your palms down and pressing buttons so that you can fire your thrusters and move upward in VR.

You can point a palm at an enemy and fire your Repulsor Beams. The motions are a lot like the fantasy of being Iron Man, and that’s the way Payton wants it. I talked to him at a recent Sony event about making the Iron Man of his dreams and bringing it to the world. The game debuts in 2019 on PlayStation VR.

Aye, Iron Man looks to be exactly how I'd imagined it in VR, and the character is perfectly suited to the tech. My only disappointment is that it appears to be all air combat based from the little we've seen. Still, if it turns out to be great fun, who cares? :D

I'm a huge fan of VR, and I like the idea of this tech. But I'm not paying £120 to play shovelware with my feet.

Having not put the headset on in over three months, it probably wasn't a good idea to try Wipeout VR for the first time last night. Phew! That might be one for TV play only, I think.

Turn on the comfort settings. Don''t go back - Wipeout's immense in VR.

It defaulted to all comfort settings for the race I tried (2048, lots of drops), I still felt weird playing it. My brain just cannot reconcile moving with not feeling movement.

I seem to be particularly susceptible to the problem, though. I'll try it again at some point, but I'm feeling queezy just remembering it.
