My math skills bring all the boys to the yard.

a bloody difficult sega arcade game...

I assume I’m not the only one trying to work out timings in my head whilst playing things like this.

Right so with the news of the new Turtles collection game, finally Konami are at long last putting all the games on one disc! I decided to revisited the second arcade game with a full playthrough!

Also took a gameplay look at one of the more obscurer Saturn titles out there Virtual Casino, which only got an English release in North America, it's a mixture of table and card games with 2D & 3D graphics and some very dated pre-rendered models. One for collectors only really, unless you really must play Poker on Saturn.

Finally I'm currently streaming The Story of Thor 2 on SEGA Saturn this week, so you can join me on Twitch from 21:30 BST if you want something to watch in the evening. First part which I did yesterday is here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1440106663 (Found the first two spirits)

  • 3 weeks later...

Konami is famous for its arcade games, what's strange when it comes to the 8bits and in particular the Amstrad CPC, is that instead of using other software houses to convert their licensed games onto home computers. Konami sometimes produced its own conversions. I think the first was prison break for the humble Amstrad CPC.

That was great. Very much my own experience with Elite II. Objectively rubbish, but it meant so much to me. I think half the reason I ended up with a PhD in Astrophysics is that game.

Thanks!

What's your astro focus? My wife's about a year out from getting her PhD. She's on exoplanets, brave new worlds and all that...

Oh awesome. She's the final leg ahead of her. That's the hardest. Best of luck to her.

I've a little bit of overlap with her, observing and modelling the interstellar medium surrounding new stars, and dying ones. Looking at how dense clumps of complex molecules can survive a dying star system, and seed a future one. So ties in a little with panspermia.

Thanks, I'm sure she'll ace it. Or whatever it is people do with PhDs. I'm a straight C student, so no idea.

And that sounds very cool. Do you work for Frontier at all? Hah

Trying to get some model 2 stuff recorded now, without going for the super obvious ones just yet.

I have the Saturn port of that one and need to actually spend some time with it to see what I think of it, remember from what I played not being great.

Did a playthrough of SEGA Rally 2 in arcade mode the other week, I've been working to 1st, but this run was a 3rd place finish. As I've had to move onto other things at the moment. It is a decent port despite the flaws I will admit, but not perfect.

Also took a look at the North America version of Cyber Speedway, which has a very different soundtrack for the race music to the Japanese and European versions.

Finally if you follow our Twitch I'm looking at some of the best Wii U Virtual Consoles games to grab before they get delisted, this is from last weeks stream and this is the one I looked at Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, which are both in the Wii U eshop: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1466026868 (I'll be streaming more Wii U VC tonight at 21:30 BST)

Something I was involved with pretty cool history doc

What a great documentary. No profanity or puerile humour. If anyone can point me towards more stuff aimed at adults then I would be extremely appreciative.

Just one video this week at the moment a playthrough of the fair rarely talked about (east to see why) Virtua Athlete 2K on Dreamcast. Tries to recapture the magic of Athlete Kings, but when the game has less content it ain't going to work.

Hopeful, I'm going to finish off one of my major planned videos this week, in the mean time a couple of quick videos looking at some lesser known titles.

First off Cubivore on Gamecube, why this didn't get a PAL release I'll never know, I got a Japanese version instead which is a lot cheaper it's a fun and very stylised game based around evolution. So lots of eating your opponents and mating to become stronger, with some silver monsters acting as the main enemies. Not for everyone, but I've enjoyed it.

Secondly this is a fairly obscure SEGA Saturn battle arena car combat title known as Vatlva from Ancient that Yuzo Koshiro compay, features a short, but fun arcade mode. The real fun comes in the form of the versus mode that see you and six friends or cpu battle against one another! Should have shown off the versus mode, but never mind that can be for another video. Real shame this never made it over here.

Went with a full on Director's Cut video for Bare Knuckles III this weeks, showing all routes endings, hidden paths extra's etc... Took awhile to put together, but end result is fairly impressive, do follow the time stamp guide on this one. I hopefully, put in a flow order that makes the most sense. Wasn't quite sure how to add all the different paths in Round 5.

Also reminder on the Wii U Virtual console time is running out to buy the many Virtual Console games the system has to offer! Last week I look at Ufouria: The Saga / Hebereke, which is a great Metroid adventure title on NES, Which I think is better than the first Metroid and very pricey to buy these days as it only got a PAL A release in Australia: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1491689683

Also Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS has a very nice Wii U Virtual Console version too, just wish there where more DS games on Wii U: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1491709836

Seeing as it will be included in the new Capcom Fighting Collection, I decided to do a playthrough on the SEGA Saturn version of Pocket Fighter both the arcade mode and the Saturn extra running battle mode. It really is a lot of fun, this one works with and without the 4MB, but the video was using the 4MB.

Also I'll be looking at the brand new SEGA Dreamcast port of Postal tomorrow on our Twitch channel tomorrow.

Did some original Space Invaders yesterday, amazing how some of the cabinet designs in MAME can make the game look, far better than some of the official releases over the years. I'd quite like to get the original on PS4, but the Space Invaders Invincible Collection seems to be Switch only with a limited selection of games... Still I've got it on SNES, Saturn and PlayStation 2. The way the backdrop is added makes it look really good.

Did i never put up the second track of this?

Plus the first two Indy 500 circuits, still working on the third hard one

Really enjoying this one, same era as Daytona and sega rally but it doesn’t seem to get any attention though.
