Ty & Guy is great, their friendship is quote charming.

It's the best. I haven't linked the latest ones, but it's a must for Expanse fans and genre fans in particular.

Yeah it’s a great podcast.

Am I right in thinking that they’re going through the seasons again one by one and redoing the podcast or are they just reuploading old podcasts on to the new account?

It's a new podcast, they're doing the seasons again.

I've watched S2E2 again before watching Ty and That Guy and damn, that's a good episode. Some great shots, Avasarala, Fred Jonhnson and Miller are superb in it, we get our first taste of Drummer and the ending with Dresden is killer.

I'm avoiding reading this thread as I've just started watching.

Is there generally a point in which people think this gets good? I'm on season 1 episode 4 and I'm fucking loving it, so if theres a "stick with it until it gets going in episode blah" then I'm in for a real treat!

I'll be honest there's a lot going on but I'm loving the world building and main plotline. I've not been this taken by a sci-fi TV series since the 'new' Battlestar.

It certainly gets better, but I don't think it was ever not good. There's a lot of setup in season 1 which makes for a bit of a slow start, but that's all I think.

I think that 'stick with it' episode is no 4.  I thought the first three episodes creaked a bit under the weight of setting everything in motion.  It was a grower though and by episode 4 I was all in.   If you're loving it already you can absolutely relax into enjoying it.  The show's always heading towards interesting stuff and situations.

Pace changes a bit in in S4, which some people liked a bit less.  I loved that though, as like much of the series, it takes stuff that's really only been in scifi novels and does it's own twist on it.

Boxed this off today, really really good. Can’t wait for the next/final one!

I wasn’t expecting…

Spoiler

The way they wrote Alex out of it. I knew it was coming but it was pretty abrupt/ham-fisted in the end.

Am I right that the…

Spoiler

…fate of the Barkeith in the final scene was similar to the station that disintegrated above Venus many episodes ago?

Again it seemed to just get chucked out there as if we needed convincing to come back.

What’s actually happening in that scene isn’t really very well explained and most of the context for it was provided in the fourth season with very little reference to it in the fifth.

Spoiler

It’s not the same as what happened on Venus - that was the OG protomolecule doing its thing.

The force that takes out the Barkieth is whatever killed the protomolecule creators - it doesn’t disassemble the ship like what happened on Venus, it completely wipes it out of existence.

Almost everything to do with this other power was covered in all the Miller hijinx on the alien planet in season four so it’s easy to forget, I don’t know why they didn’t stick in a brief reminder before the Barkieth scene.

So I’m at this point with the dead tree medium versions. Do I plough on through those or do the video version first?

Do you mean you've caught up to where the show is? If so, the last series isn't going to cover all of the remaining material from the pulp-based nameless objects, so probably best to stop with those for now and wait for series 6 to come out. Then crack on if you want the rest of the story.

Ah, that’s where it was from! Knew I’d seen it but the brain wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Thanks, @Flanders

@Benny Totally agree :)

Yeah the Venus incident was the protomolecule doing its thing.
