That's good Playdoh, how did you fair with finding the location and light pollution?

Night photography can be pretty damn good, although a bit of a bugger this time of year.

Those are pleasant winky, it's nice to see that you were able to catch some drama in the sky.

I need to drag my ass out for some landscape photography, it's been ages since I've done so.

I done a composition. Actually thought about it for once instead of snapping any old toss and hoping for the best.

I really like this, the light and shadows on the bust are great. Just a thought but have you tried cropping out the lights at the top? I think it might work even better like that, keeping the focus on the bust.

Was that your first go at motorsport Pete? Great start if so, checked your Flickr to and saw the rest. I managed to work through the fence OK but had a position right by it at the corner I was at. Only one shot uploaded so far as they are all a bit samey due to not moving around much during the day. This one is def my best of the day so it almost seems pointless to upload any more!

Panning a car at 120mph at 1/40sec is not easy.

Yeah that's my first go at motorsport, it's probably the hardest form of photography I've ever done but very much enjoyed it. I'm amazed you got that at 1/40, the focus even holds up at full detail. I need to find what event I can next go to, I loved the weekend and really want to do it all again.

I only got two shots where the focus was absolutely perfect, but the framing was duff so not worth posting. Didn't get any with as good panning as yours though

Here's my kubica qualifying shot for comparison!

I'm glad you said that Pete as motorsport work doesn't get much appreciation in the photography world and it certainly deserves some acknowledgement as it is indeed damn hard.

Panning just takes lots of practice and the acceptance that you will get a lot of duff shots.

Next event on the motorsport calendar is Goodwood Festival of Speed, I'm going on the Friday this year, it's a brilliant event.

Good shots Pete. Nice to try something different and enjoy it.

I covered a 5-a-side tournament for my work recently and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge (shooting through a fence, limited locations to shoot from).

I think it helps to try something different to get the enthusiasm back.

Love the second shot, great timing! Am I mad in thinking the Brawn's were harder to capture than the other cars? The whiteness of the paintjob seemed to throw out my camera...or perhaps, actually, I am just mad.

And down with fences! Safety be damned, think of us photographers for a change.

That Renault shot is cool :)

Dit you get press accreditation? Do they then still make you sit behind a fence?

No accreditation for me, I wish I could get it. You get to go the dangerous side of the fences when you get 'access' yes.

Pete, the Brawns weren't too bad but the all white can trick the auto focus as I believe it works by locking on to an area of contrast.
