Sunset Overdrive

This is great but I can see how it's not for everyone. Takes a little time to get the use of the "X" button whilst jumping, firing and planning where you're going next all at once. It's also one of those games where there's a lot of stuff going on on the map in terms of collectibles/challenges/missions etc. Tried the online and it's absolutely rock solid with 8 players and a ton of AI jumping all over the place and technically it seems very solid - characters don't clip when right up close to the camera and the framerate seems not to fluctuate though I'm sure DF will have an appraisal along shortly should they manage to knock a frame or two off it for a second. Everything has friends/global leaderboards attached (which work right out the box!) which is a nice touch.

Several of the reviews have said it starts off a bit slow and awkward until you get the hang of traversal.. but it becomes a joy once you have..

http://a.pomf.se/wwypmf.webm :omg:

It seems to be one of those games where you can play it 'dull' by just grinding back and forwards on a few bits of rail while shooting - which a couple of the lower marked scores mentioned..

I suspect that there's a direct correlation there.. The more effort to learn the systems, the more you get out of it..

Plus it's the most SEGA 'Blue Skies' looking game in a while.. :D

Behold my incredible kangaroo codpiece as the insane horde tramples my balls to death in Chaos Mode.

The sheer volume of stuff going off onscreen during the chaos mode endgame has to be seen to be believed.

Witness scumbag ragdoll taking a long trip off the top of a building the ascension of which reminded me of Crackdown

There's also an ARG for Sunset running..

There's a thread on NeoGaf where they're trying to unravel it..

A 'glitched' frame in the TV advert is thye starting point.. gives a message in morse code..

zRHHByO.png

Which gives...

O V E R C H A R G E D R I N K . C O M 4 0 4 P A G E

I'll leave it there in case anyone wants to dig in further, but it's not been solved yet as far as anyone seems to know.. The thread above is several steps further on..

This is a real grower. The score challenges and stuff are hyper addictive. Only got 1 friend and Major Nelson on my table at the moment but can't stop replaying them trying to best their scores (Nelson only took 2 goes).

Spanked most of your scores cock face!! Without really trying.

I think FH2 genuinely looks a very good game, but to claim that XBO are "hitting it out the park" seems to be stretching things somewhat. I don't think 2014 will be remembered as a great year for console exclusives for either console.

 who is this fucking shill?

My Indian marketplace version unexpectedly unlocked this evening. Bonus. Had a quick hour or so with it. Initial impressions: vivid, fast-moving, colourful, fun. I found myself fumbling attempts to keep the traversal chains going beyond just obvious grinds and bounces, but everywhere you look you can see potential 'lines'. I can imagine, with a bit of practice and familiarity with the map, the kind of fluid combos you will be able to string together. The shooting felt a wee bit wooly, but I'm probably just not attuned to it yet. Nicely presented and the 'attitude' is nowhere near as jarring as I'd feared. All in all: I'm impressed and I like it.

Quick tip there's a mission called Hepcat Upgrade which has you searching for 4 parts - I spent an absolute age trying to find the second one in the supermall to the point I thought it was glitched - you need to find a blue fridge and break it open.

So all I've been playing recently is Destiny and I cant say that I'm enjoying myself 100% of the time. Sure it plays great but its so po-faced and up it's own arse that it really doesn't help hide to cover the tedious grinding and limited amount of content which is endlessly replayed. For some reason I was addicted, you know those slot jockeys you see in Vegas? That was me. Full on fag in the mouth, dead eyes staring at the screen while my hands repeated the same action again and again, each time killing myself a little inside.

Loading up Sunset Overdrive is like having a nuclear piñata exploding in the middle of that casino and reminding you that video games can be fun. We all knew out was colourful but seeing it in motion is a joy to behold. It's like coming out of a cave for the first time in years and having your senses blown. Those colours, oh those gorgeous gorgeous colours. Who knew there were so many? Not only that but the world is presented with such fidelity that it's almost a sensory overload.

If all those Dreamcast games we love to look back on were successful and SEGA were still creatively knocking it out of the park, this is where we would have eventually ended up.

The spirit of the Dreamcast lives on. Long live the Bone.
