The Flash - TV series

Gambit

I think I might have reached my give up point on this

Barry 3 episodes ago makes such a fuss of working within the system/not cheating/using powers...

And then he's released without consequence by using (someone else's) powers?

And god knows what DeVoe's plan actually is...and I don't care

I am finding that Arrow and the Flash, nothing really is happening to progress the stories. Like a lot of stuff happens during the episode, only for it to not actually amount to anything.

Think they are both struggling to be interesting lately.

Wow an actual genuine great episode with some really good ideas and exploring his abilities in an interesting way.

Meh.

Next time they whinge about Barry not being fast enough they don't really have a leg to stand on though

Exactly.

The episodes starts with him being unable to reach a breach opened by Cisco in the time required, yet he slows down time enough to just walk around and have a conversation for five minutes. He also tells Jesse there isn't enough time to run the bomb out of the city yet there's enough time for her to get to another Earth and bring Jay Garrick. Fuck this show is dumb. And not in a fun Legends of Tomorrow kind of way.

I'm halfway though the episode mind so there's plenty of time for it be saved/ruined further.

Another issue with the application of Barry’s speed...

Im on sky pace so just watched episode 12 where Barry transports Goldberg to China in the time it takes for the security camera to pan back round, which must be 5 or 6 seconds at most. Ok, so he gets caught anyway but to China and back in that time means he shouldn’t have a problem getting anywhere as quick as he wants. He is at Injustice super move levels of speed with that manoeuvre and no doubt in a couple episodes they will forgot he went that fast because plot.

Early seasons had this great progression of Barry’s speed where it delivered some real epic moments as he overcome an enemy or developed a new power. Now it’s just whatever is needed for the episode regardless of the implications for subsequent plot beats and while it’s not the only problem, it’s the one that sticks out the most for me right now.

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes will appear together on an upcoming episode. They aren't Jay and Silent Bob, but Mews does speak while Smith doesn't.

Watching this episode right now, and was coming in here to post this :D

It's back then!

Not watched the first episode but the news sites are saying that ratings wise The Flash and Black Lightning both suffered quite a sharp decline from last seasons premiere. Maybe people are starting to get tired of the CW DCVerse.

I know I am. There's just too much of it now, and they've grown more homogeneous over the seasons too. Legends is the only one that really stands out, although I've still yet to even try Black Lightning.

We all used to moan about the secret identity drama these shows used to fall back on, but now that everyone seems to know who everyone is there's not really been anything to replace it. The whole shows are now about super-teams fighting monsters of the week, while also fighting a reaaaaaaaallllllly drawn out super bad guy plot over the course of a season.

I probably won't bother watching them this time around unless I hear they've improved.

Yeah. The Arrowverse shows need a re-boot* as that formula has got stale, like everyone else I struggled to make it the end of last years series and gave up on Supergirl entirely.

Hopefully Arrow will focus on Ollie in prison for a while before inevitably uniting him with his dull sidekicks again.

*Apart from Legends, obvs.

I find that Flash gets by on the strength of it's characters despite the crappy plotlines. HR, Cisco and Joe are infinitely watchable. Probably add Dibney to that list. The latest addition to the cast this season is also very watchable, ahem. Arrow doesn't have any of that charm, and Supergirl hasn't had much of it since Calista Flockhart left (plus they've got James Olson there who functions as a sort of negative-charisma drain on the whole thing).

Legends is just quality all around.

Personally, i found the endless abilities turned into a bit eye-roll inducing like the "Flash Time" during Barrys trial and with the atomic bomb. It was just endless and able to overcome any scenario, transferring Barrys speed to Caitlin and Cisco in the Argus building too (which i get its a hero/villain dynamic but still too much). And all the bus metas were just evil people no nuiance (sp?) at all, just powers = evil.
