yay and they are just matchmaking servers like AW, it will be p2p. yay everyone falls for it again.

That's not what Josh Holmes said. He said there are only dedicated servers, and they're used for both matchmaking (in Halo "matchmaking" refers to the public/ranked matches) and customs. No P2P.

Titanfall is run on Azure dedicated servers, so why would Microsoft not use the same platform, which they own, for for Halo 5?

obviously i ignore perennial xbox wankers wahwah and yoshi, who make me ashamed to own one, but in actual normal discussion, i really hope youre right. titanfall isnt perfect (the replays in particular) but as much as what you say is logical, theyve said this before. every year we're talking about gears or cod or halo beta or MCC using dedicated servers, and every time its a let down, so im not popping any champagne corks yet.

I didn't play either the MCC or Halo 5 beta, but Gears 3 ran on dedicated servers and it was pretty damned great. We'll have to see what happens when Halo 5 launches, but hopefully MS won't be pulling any Activision-style weasel-wording.

I think that's the difference here; MS will want/need Halo 5 multi to be a big success and they're pushing the eSports side of it. They know people hate lag and they have a platform to provide a great multiplayer experience. Activision don't want to pay for dedicated servers because it eats into their profit margin, CoD sales seem to be on a downswing and they'd have the headache of needing to cater for the PS4 too.

There's much more incentive for MS to provide a great online platform because I really can't see Sony doing something similar at the moment and so this is another way for them to show how Live is the better online platform.

Anybody remember when AnGl3 got banned for drawing what he thought a female forumites vagina looked like in MS Paint (cutting edge humour I think he called it) and then returned vowing to post less as a result? Yeah I'm massively disappointed but not very surprised that he failed to stick to his own words. What a fucking bell.

i just dont feel much need to bother posting any more. Threats by PM from mike also dont encourage it.

MCC uses Azure, Titanfall uses Azure, Halo5 Beta uses Azure so really there is nothing to discuss here it's just some wee wank trying to troll so can we please not rise to it?

I presume the Locke trailer is just a dream then. There's no way anyone could ever best Chief, and surely nobody would ever want to see that. His appeal is that he's practically invincible and gives the player that empowerment.

I don't really know what to make of the second video.

The first suggests Chief is on the run from his own army, without a friend in the galaxy. I think that could be pretty good.

I hope I don't have to play as Agent Locke. Rumours (possibly unfounded) suggest you won't be playing as the Chief throughout the majority of the game though.

I thought they had already pretty strongly implied you’d be playing as Locke, rather than as the Chief. After 14 years of Halo games they need to mix up the formula a bit, and it worked pretty well for MGS2 – seeing an iconic character through someone else’s eyes can make for an interesting twist, provided you warm up the fanbase a bit beforehand. Waiting three years to play as a much-loved character and then finding out that you’re actually playing as someone else is a bit of a mean trick, even if it works from a story perspective.

I realise they already did some similar (to disastrous effect) in Halo 2, but the problem with that was partly the tedious Episode I-style alien politics of the Covenant launched into your face at a thousand miles an hour, as well as the fact that (as with MGS2) it was sprung on the fanbase as a surprise. Doing the Heart of Darkness plot, where you have to hunt down an iconic figure gone rogue in the hinterlands of civilisation, would be something we haven’t seen in the series before, and could be pretty cool.

I'd love to kill off MC! He's a joke of a 'character'. Even Gordon fuckin' Freeman has more wit, charm and personality to boot.

Then again, I'm one of the few people in the universe who doesn't play Halo games for their 'story' but rather just to shoot some grubs in the face. Halo 4 came close to forming a coherent plot and narrative so I do have hope for 343's upcoming instalment... but otherwise Halo just falls flat when it comes to story telling in general.
