I think the other big reason Fox is massively appealing to Disney (aside from the Marvel and Star Wars rights, and all the other IP like Simpsons, Aliens etc.) is that it’ll give them a huge amount of content for their Netflix beater they’re planning. 

 

If you consider a streaming service with exclusive Simpsons, exclusive new marvel series, an exclusive new Star Wars TV show, the Disney and Miramax back catalogues... The potential is huge if they get the tech right.

I'm against the grain here, but I can't say I'm too enthused about Disney having Xmen (especially as I haven't been a great fan of the last few Marvel offerings). Ah well, I'll still probably watch them, so they won't care.

Exactly, some of the Xmen films have been pretty good, but apart from Wolverine, they have never really got the characters right for me, and as you said, that is one thing Marvel Studios have been great at since the first Iron Man film to the recent Thor one.

The recent solo stuff like Logan and Deadpool were obviously way better than the main team Apocalypse film, and Dark Phoenix sounds like a fuck-up in waiting too. It'd be a shame if this affects some of the more promising sounding projects they have lined up, like Madrox and Gambit.

It wouldn't likely affect the Marvel stuff, but one downside seems to be the suggestion that James Murdoch would be installed as the next Disney CEO, with his father getting a role too.

 

Now chat that Verizon and Comcast may make a bid for Fox too.

I thought the whole thing was the Murdochs selling off the entertainment stuff they dont want and doubling down on news. Sorry...."news".

I think they'd have to be careful with the X-Men, they'll be an element of re-boot fatigue about them.

 

FF4, Dr Doom, Galactus, Surfer et all would be amazing for a phase '4' though

I suppose that’s the upside of Disney buying Fox and not just getting the rights back. You could keep the good Fox projects going, use the current X-Men cast and crew, etc.

 

Obviously Vaughn not Singer tho.
