Arcade Club (Bury, Leeds, Blackpool)

I went to the Arcade Club in Bury with the family. It was fantastic, can't wait to go back. Nothing beats the presence of an arcade cab, emulation doesn't capture it at all.

Don't think you want to be in there in this heat!

We went to the Bury one the other week and it was actually riddled with aircon. Still warm, and still probably unbearable in this heat to be fair, but I was impressed.

Adding aircon was clearly a decision made by somebody who frequented a lot of arcades in their youth.

I’m thinking about ditching my electric car plans and buying a property around Bury instead, it was that good.

I genuinely wouldn’t require any gaming hardware in my house if I lived nearby.

Went to the Leeds club today, took my 13yr old and his friend for an old-school educational field trip.

Was all I could've hoped for and more, with a great mix of generations of classic arcade cabs spread over 3 floors, with loads of Cave shooters in astro city cabs on the top floor too. They also had a separate room with an n64 running goldeneye and megadrive with sonic on a couple of enormous crts.

I could've happily stayed for the full day and systematically run through almost everything there but the boys lasted 3-4 hours before we called it a day.

Well-stocked bar with good food on offer and a surprisingly decent latte done for me too. Will definitely go back again.

I'm moving to Blackpool soon. Having an Arcade Club very near kind of makes up for all the arcades on the front being ticket/grabbing machine bollocks now. Looking forward to going!

Been to Bury pre-lockdown, and Leeds twice post-lockdown. What joyous places.

Even with the weird mix of people walking round with drinks in their hands at midday and loads of small kids legging around, I just really enjoy the vibe. Everyone is happy!

Kids are happy because there’s lots to do, and you just see middle aged men walking round with this dazed grin on their faces, as their childhood dream (“imagine being in an arcade where EVERYTHING is free!”) has finally come true. As a kid who would have very limited 10p pieces to spend on holiday, and would spend the rest of my time pretending to play games while in attract mode, it’s just great.

And they’re really smart with having loads of Fortnite and Minecraft machines too.

They just deserve every success, really. I’m taking the kids again at the end of the school holidays.

The food, at Bury at least, is great for the value. I'm afraid to speak too positively about it incase they see this and double the prices.

When I went, which was yonks ago, this was one of the things that really surprised me. The burgers were really good and fairly cheap. I expected then to price gouge a touch, given that it's a captive audience.

Yeah, I was expecting that too! Like cinema tactics or something.

If I wanted to spend a whole day and night in there I could probably keep myself satisfied with about £30. That's lunch, dinner, supper, and soft drinks; only briefly ejecting myself from the premises for the occasional narcotics break.

It was a great day. So many game..there was pretty much everything I could have hoped for really.  Spent nearly 5 hrs there and keen to go back.

Anyone been to the Blackpool one yet?

I know someone who has, who has also been to the Bury and Leeds ones, who was pretty down on it. Saw a walkthrough of the Blackpool site and it doesn't seem on the scale of the other two.

-edit- the quotes from my friend

  • "It’s basically the whole top floor of bury with like 4 machines off the middle floor"
  • "Brought my powerbank in case this place was sick and I needed to keep my phones charged, what a waste"
  • "The food seating area is nice"
