is still one of the most wonderful scenes I've ever seen. Incredible acting as well.

 

It's easy to forget in life so many people carry grief and tragedy inside themselves. 

 

I thought it was implied that

she might have had a child pre-marriage and had to give the child away.

 

Stunning acting though, it's so subtle.

Uber late to this, but during a very sedate Hogmanay/New Year I noticed this was on BBC4 at the back of 1am. Watched the first two and was hooked. Now making my way through the lot on I Player. I had always meant to check it out but never got round to it. 

 

A lot of newer comedy doesn't really click with me, but this is classic British underdog understated comedy with a real heart to it. Superbly written characters too.

I noticed Mackenzie Crook used lots of nature shots/landscape sweeps in his Worzel Gummidge adaptation, just as he did in Detectorists.

It was kinda obvious that the cup was going to be special, but the holy grail reference when Russell appeared younger after drinking from the cup flew right over my head.

Really enjoyed that, obviously not as good as a series but for a Christmas special it was excellent. At least it's an excuse to give the whole thing another watch.
