Turn On Your Saturns Now

Ok so it's been a busy xmas you've played loads of games on your latest (or other) consoles. Now it's time to charge them saturns otherwise your battery will go flat and all you precious game saves will be lost...

I do this periodically when I remember I got unlucky once five years ago and I'm never going to let it happen again. SO save youself some pain and before you put on any other title for a play just plug in your saturn...you don't have to play you can jsut leave it there charging! Also if you have an officical sega memory cart then plug that in to!

Cheers

Are you sure that simply powering up the Saturn will re-charge the battery?

I'm sure that the battery I had with the machine, and ones I've bought since are all non-recargeable.

As for the saves cart is that battery backed-up or EEPROM? Would plugging it into the Saturn re-charge it?

I'm a long time Saturn owner and big fan of the machine, and don't have much knowledge about this side of things, so I'm probably wrong.

Seems a bit fishy to me though.

Yeah, I don't think the Saturn battery is rechargable. The only thing one can do is change the battery regularly. But Jim, how can we change the battery without losing the saves? Do it with the power on! (Or back up to Memory Cart).

Also, I'm quite sure the Memory Cart isn't powered, it doesn't need charging.

Crap.

Just dug mine out and the bastard battery is flat.

There goes my NiGHTs/Xmas NiGHTs data and my Daytona USA times!

Fuckety-fuck.

Fuckety-fuck-fuck!

Been there, done that, worn the Saturn t-shirt from MIK.

The only plus point was replaying the games from the begining.

The Saturn uses a CR2032, certainly for the clock and also it must have some effect on memory as when mine died so did my Panzer dragoon Saga save ..

Damn !!

The dreamcast though powers the internal battery by turning it on .

Recommend me some of the must-haves then :o

I like the look of that Japanese white console, but can you mod it to play PAL games?

Radiant Silvergun

Battle Garegga

Kingdom Grandprix

Thunderforce V

Guardian Heroes

Panzer Dragoon Saga

NiGHTS

Well, thats what I've played and loved entirely.

Of course most the ones Ikaruga has said are also very expensive, Some games you may enjoy are the virtua cop series, daytona, Sonic jam/Sonic R, Nights, Virtua fighter 2, virtual on etc check out www.sega-saturn.com for reviews of saturn games.

Well it does...or at least it seems to my machine has been running for the last 5 years using this method but feel free to ignore my advise I was just trying to help...Oh and the Official Sega Backup RAM also uses a battery (the same as in the saturn). I lost all my saves about 7 years ago after my saturn had not been used for while since then I have tried to turn my saturn on atl east once every 6 weeks with the backup cart plugged in so far I've lost no saves...

The official sega ram cart for the Saturn does not use a battery. I've had one open, its just an EEPROM.

How come I've lost saves of the official ram cart then! if it was an eprom I would have never lost anything...hmmm strange, I'll take your word for it as I'm not going to risk taking it appart to find out. Still going to charge my saturn every month or so as it's worked for me so far I guess I wont bother posting reminders here again though

damn, that's an expensive list there, ikarumba ;)

i'd personally go with some cheaper, but just as nice titles like...

daytona,

sega rally (oh god, sega rally),

exhumed,

panzer dragoon zwei,

amok,

virtual on (never did get the hang of it though),

and gun griffon.

that is all for now :P

I have heard of people having problems with official and unofficial RAM carts (mostly unofficial ones), but this has nothing to do with the cart having a battery in it. The first thing I did when I first got an official cart was to take it to peices, and there is no battery in it.
