Street Fighter V Champion Edition

I don't mind the game getting one more year. They effectively lost a pro tour season this year and I think that's a shame for what is the best version of the game.

Called Oro and Rose, would never have guessed Akira from Rival Schools. Always found her to be one of the more boring characters from that series but it's still a fun guest spot and nice to see Rival Schools getting any attention at all in 2020.

So happy for Joffles that Dan is next.

Absolutely delighted. I thought the five from the Tarot cards (Rose, Oro, Rolento, Elena and C Viper) were gonna be a lock then they opened with Dan. Amazing.

Rose and Oro straight after made me think it'd be Dan and those 5 but then Rival Schools' Akira out of nowhere. With a stage and Rival Schools "gimmicks" beyond that too. No idea what that would mean.

A bit far out for the updates but Dan's this year so Merry Christmas!

That’s a shame, saves my getting PlayStation plus again for a while though.

but it’s a good set of characters, rival schools being officially part of sf is cool. and it’s kinda nice to see rumours/leaks to be wrong... people have been saying rose was finished years ago!

Rose VT 1: Soul Satellite.

Rose VT 2: SF4 Backdash install. Should go full screen, and if she's cornered she should go through the screen and come out the other side like Anakaris/Pacman.

Rose is neat. Akira's okay, but always felt she was kinda boring compared to others in the Rival Schools roster - I'd have preferred Zaki or Tiffany.

Still no sign of Viper, so I doubt I'll be playing anytime soon... though even when characters I main come out in fighting games these days, I don't seem to stick around too long.

The new characters look good but it seems like a pretty standard announcement in contrast to all of the hype surrounding the announcement... I think I was just expecting a bigger pop off (although to be fair I wouldn’t have guessed Oro or Akira!)

Yeah, I'm really surprised that was all it was considering the buildup. Very early footage of one character delivered in the most hypeless manner possible.

Pleased for joffo though and it's good that they seem to have realised they need to put a bit more effort into communication!

The final character is intriguing though, either they simply haven't decided yet or they think it's going to be some huge deal. Hard to imagine it just being Makoto or Sodom or whoever.

I’m thinking the last character is going to be a new boss antagonist.

I don’t think there’s anyone else they could add that would give that wow factor other than another someone like that

Dan’s VSs have to be linked to his taunt, don’t they? Looks like one can be done cancelling normals and the other can be done cancelling specials! Possibly the cancelling specials is one of his VTs.

While it’s cool that more characters are coming I can’t help but feel it’s a waste. Obviously it depends when SF6 lands but the potential that you could have some of these characters for less than a year before SF6 comes out is a shame. Oro was on my list of characters to main but I won’t be bothering if SF6 is imminent.

A new boss is definitely possible since they introduced Necalli and forgot about him halfway through the story then said that G is the real SFV boss but didn't go anywhere with that either. Might as well chuck another into the mix.

Violent Ken pls.

The Playstation blog gives a few extra snippets, confirming that Taunts will be core to Dan's playstyle (as they should be).

t also mentions that Oro will still be restricting himself to a single arm by challenging himself to keep a turtle balanced in the other. Very interested to see how they animate that; static like a bird's head while the rest of him flails wildly?

They also talk about how strong Rose's Soul Satellite was in SSFIV which makes it sound like it's returning. Tbh it doesn't seem as scary in the context of some other mix-up VTriggers in SFV anyway.

I wonder what the battle mechanic they'll be adding will be? If it's related to the "Rival Schools gimmicks" they have planned it makes me think of tag-team attacks but that's too fundamental a change (but might be an optional mode?) so I guess it's something else. I expect it'll be a new way to use V-Gauge defensively.

Bit disappointed in the timescale of it all; I wasn't ready to believe that this final season was a last minute decision due to Covid (since Champion Edition already had an apparent name change from Definitive Edition prior to release) so maybe it's more a contingency stemming from Street Fighter 6's rumoured delay. Not that it was ever officially confirmed but recent murmurs suggest that Ono's direction with it wasn't widely liked and a new producer has taken over, granted an extra year to complete the project.

Hopefully it means we see some next-gen optimisations to sort out SFV's loading times.

I forgot how much I loved Hill Side Plaza stage and music. SFV might have its flaws but reinstalling it feels like coming back home even though I have never played it seriously (forever bronze ).

The game at 4k and with max antialiasing looks so good.

Interesting, does this mean he uses the turtle to do things or does he need to move it out of the way (ie tossing it in the air) before doing moves. Assuming he retains his original move set of course.
