I'm knocking about in training for a little while if anyone fancies a few rounds.  I'm shit! Come get some easy wins.

Starting to get a bit more consistent on this fight pad now.  Still not mad keen on it but I can at least bang out 60% of my dragon punch attempts rather than the none at all I was managing earlier.

In the never ending adventures of me deciding who my main will be in SFV, I've gone from Birdie to Bison to Nash and now Laura. She will be my main for certain definitely sure 100%! I mean,  she represents Brazil, does electricity and her favourite colour is green! Perfect.

Gah!  I've just come off for the evening. I would have loved to have a couple of games with you @Let's measure!.  It sounds like we're aproaching the game in much the same way and at a similar level.  Another night maybe!

You're on! I've got you on PSN, feel free to message me/join in whenever. Only hitch is that I'm a teacher and with half-term finishing you probably won't see me again until Easter. I'll try to get on some weekends though!

I FUCKING FINALLY WON A RANKED MATCH!

(It was probably an even worse beginner than me, but whatever - gimme dat fight money!)

Edit: huh won the one after that also.. yep, mean green Laura looks like a keeper. Shame that she doesn't bite people in the face or that she doesn't hop - but her v-skill is a reasonable alternative to the patented Blanka Hop(tm)

Thank God for target combos, though. Easy to master, do decent damage, etc. Vega's target combo (HP, HP, v-skill) is especially satisfying, especially after a HP jump-in. Slashy-slash-slash.

His cr.HP is a fantastic anti-air, btw!

Stand heavy punch into mp Areola Edge or whatever its called is super easy, safe on block 90% of the time, and can combo into super for near half life.

Vegas stabby sounds just might be my favourite effect in the game SHINK!

Camel, Dhalsim is markedly different. It's going to take a lot of getting used to both playing as and fighting against him. Fortunately two of the best Dhalsims in the world (FChamp and Arturo) have stuck with him in 5, so you won't be short of inspiration.

His standing medium kick doesn't angle upwards as it has in every other game, he doesn't have the back roundhouse knee of doom, he doesn't have jump fierce sniper and he doesn't have yoga fire without spending an ex meter. He also doesn't have yoga blast, which was arguably his most vital survival tool in SFIV.

For a character who has seen few changes to his normals and specials since sf2 it's pretty drastic.

Like Zangief though, it seems he has the ability to achieve most of the same things, you just don't go about it as you're used to.

Standing fierce might be an even bigger commitment than it was in 4, but the trade off is that he ducks down super low to do it so it never trades with fireballs and just beats them clean instead, plus it has to be blocked low!

His middle kick and roundhouse don't arc upwards any more.  Instead they control the horizontal angles that yoga fire used to, and his new upwards arcing fireball covers  the skies instead. For a meter his ex yoga fire is the same as it was in SFIV as well, but the change means he can't hang in a fireball war by throwing fireballs back unless he spends meter. which is a massive, extremely jarring change to the character.

He has back + medium punch anti air, which almost identical to how it was in SFIV, and he has a new back + fierce upward angled yoga sniper that covers  an angle somewhere between the now absent ex yoga blast and knee of doom but isn't quite as good as either of them. The trade off there is that it crush counters and allows for follow up tings when it counter hits their jump in. He also has crouching medium punch as a mid to long range anti air that covers a spot he's never had before. It's pretty good.

Oh, and he has chainable low jabs, which is massive for a character who needs panic buttons more than anybody else. V reversals are massive for Dhalsim as well. Think how different his SFIV career could have been with two extra escape opportunities per round.

His mobility, offense, damage and mix up tools are noticeably much improved, makes sense as he seems to be more of a hit and run trickster than a defending a spot on screen/fighting tooth and nail to survive type.

He's got the three slides, the drills aren't as bad as they were in 4, he has extra air options in yoga gale (yoga flame in the air) and his v skill hover. His v skill also allows him to take to the air from the ground without jumping or doing an instant air teleport. That's pretty big for a character who has always had a completely useless jump.

In place of sniper he can overhead with jump back jab and a at least one of his other air normals (I think medium kick but not sure) and with combinations of super (yoga catastrophe but more like Oro's green ball super from 3s) and v trigger (white life sapping flame carpet that is genuinely terrifying to sit in for any length of time), his new fireballs, v skill and teleports he has the potential for absolutely disgusting mix ups.

He looks to be as tricky to use well as ever but not nearly as much of a pushover as he was in sf4.

As comprehensive as ever.   Thanks.

Did you guys enable the option to get connected to online fighters automatically? Because I have, and I can't even practice a combo in Training Mode for more than three minutes without getting into an online fight, LOL. I honestly don't understand where this "lack of games" is coming from.

It's nice that your experience is good, but mine's different. Tried via just about every possible method:

Connecting automatically (never happens)

Selecting ranked or casual from the main menu (waiting for ages, or a disconnect from the server)

Searching for battle lounges (hella slow, lounges always say they're full when yet they still show up as open after search, disconnects)

Creating battle lounges (got one match like this after a 5min wait, nothing after)

Is anyone else still completely unable to get games? Why does SFV hate me??? :(:(:(

Mine is good and bad. Had loads of great games this morning, a few tonight, then some laggy matches, now I can't connect to the server.

So. Many. Disconnecting. Players.

Genuinely disappointed by the lack of character these people are showing.

If it's anything like the beta, that might not be ragequits; there were a lot of reports of lost connections in the final moments of a match...

joe: I don't have time today but I can throw lounge invites at you tomorrow so that you can see if you have any luck...

I'm only doing one hour a night, there's only so many defeats a man can take. I will see how I improve over a month, already feel I have more understanding and muscle memory is sinking in. Still shit but I worried a few people in ranked.

still don't really understand what to do when someone comes at me all guns blazing tho, get flustered and lose.

Same here! I can calmly execute a few choice combo's in training umpteen times in a row, but once I'm in a match I turn into a button mashing idiot the moment someone starts rushing me.

Finally I feel like I'm beginning to make some progress. Laura is working out great so far as my main and after my surprise first ranked win earlier in the evening, things kept going well. As I made my way through survival mode I had six or so casual matches and managed to win them all. One guy had something like 900+ LP which had me worried... but I managed to crush him too. And I finally finished survival on normal! Of course I still suck at the game, I know that, but after days of struggling to even getting specials out consistently, this feels like a major victory!

Fucking awesome game btw. Still early days, but long term SFV could manage to end up way up there right alongside Super 2 Turbo, Alpha/Zero 3, SNK2 and 3rd Strike for me

Played some more Nash yesterday and got the 10 online wins and three wins in a row trophy. I fought a Bison 50,000 ranks in front and expected the worst and took him in two rounds. Lost to an absolute beast of a Vega though who really knew how to control the ground and air. Everything seemed pretty solid netcode wise and so much better than the first few days.

To me this so much more enjoyable than IV already and knowing that 3 of my fave SF characters are in the first batch of DLC including my all time fave Alex is the icing on the cake. I would like them to introduce a second super for each character though just to keep things fresh - seeing Ken using my face as a doormat can only be enjoyable so many times :D

We will get all characters eventually as long people like us keep buying them. No worries.

Anyway, like @Down by Law I managed to get the three ranked wins in a row achievement!  I immediately turned fight request off.

Netcode has been hell of solid since yesterday for me.

You know a game is doing something right when you're reading up on combos n tactics during the intermission at the cinema. And when the first thing you do on a Saturday morning, before coffee even, is firing the game up 'for a quick training session with fight request'. Those proper lobbies can't come soon enough.

Edit: I turned fight request back on and was immediately challenged by a Karin 75,000 ranks in front of me - oh no my winning streak, I thought! But after getting rushed down and beat down for the first half of the first round, I managed to find my calm and turn it around. It was close, but in the end I won both rounds - and that's why it's called hyper turbo, 'cause that is what you feel after wins like that :D

Really haven't had much time on this so far, hoping to get some time in from Sunday night. Have joined Joffo's PSN group and added a handful of people who's PSN IDs I recognise

I would just add everyone regardless of whether they're on PSN or not. Cross-play works really well and a lot of us 360 folk from the HD Remix and IV days went for the PC version because we still have our 360 Cool Sticks.

Ahhhhhhh. Is a CFN-style add possible then? I've just been adding odd PSNs...

Yes, that's totally possible. Obviously we can't share friends lists across Steam and PSN, but in-game you can go to the CFN menu and search for any Capcom Fighters Network ID using that list @joffocakes linked to in the first post. Regardless of whether someone is on PS4 or PC. Then you add that ID to your favourites, thus building a list of friendly 'muk opponents in the CFN favourites menu all the way on the left. You can invite anyone from that in-game favourite list. Capcom done good in that regard :)

Nice - added myself to the list - I forgot you need a sep ID - for some reason the ID from the beta I used wasn't available anymore so I chose something way better anyway. Username is Bubsy3D (lel) - my stick is working now, but fucking hell am I terrible at it.
