Playing this game online I think Capcom have made a huge error....

There's obviously a lot of beginners, who I can tell need help understanding the game but there's literally nothing available for them to help get them started.

Where the instructions for things like; links, crush counters or using your v-skills effectively.

They said they wanted to make this game accessible for beginners and in a lot of the designs it is but there's still a lot of understanding that people need, which hasn't been given to them.

You can tell just by reading this thread!

The game should have instructions like:

With character X, this is a good damaging combo. Complete 5 times to proceed

The Cpu will jump in and DP, block this move and press a heavy attack to crush counter. Complete 5 times to proceed.

If you play online and run into a lot of ex SFIV players, who are already well versed in this kind of thing, it could well put you off for life!

@Uzi Temp After the beta the usernames were up for grabs again, you left it too late. But your new name is better anyway! Although 'Uzi Temp' as your CFN ID would have been even better :P

I had the same experience of being a lot worse than I remembered but stick (lol) with it - after 6 or so years of not playing any Street Fighter it took me a good few days of training and searching for a new main until I finally started to get some reliable moves and  wins out.

Quite pleased that both Boxer and Juri are round the corner as they're the characters I spent the most time with on IV.

I do seem to be winning around 80% of my matches with Nash but he's such a serious, dry old fucker.  Think I'm going to swap over to someone a bit more interesting for a couple of nights before I get institutionalised.  I'd love to get better with Dhalsim or F.A.N.G; someone with a bit of flavour but they also seem to be the hardest characters to get to grips with.

Guys, my CFN is SFO_Dragonman and I can also be found on SFO Dragonmandem. The latter is the communal Sunday Face Off account, so there should always be somebody worth playing on there.

Edit: Ah, added them to the google doc now. Like everyone else who can follow simple instructions has done.

Carry on.

Well my 360 Madcatz TE stick works fine using a Cronus max on ps4. Suffers the usual 10 minutes and reconnect issue. I can't remember the shortcut I set up to force a reconnect manually. Aside from that it seems as good as using my rap4

Ah, you don't have the V3? I think the later ones don't have the ten re-authenticate issue. Wanted to see how that faired. Anyway, thanks for checking it out.

Haha, nothing to see on there just yet I'm afraid. I have about 400 LP and about six games of me battling against teleport lag with Laura. I have lots of Laura and Rashid tings I've been using offline that I'd like to do to some ranked mans soon though. If it's replays you're after I think the SFO_Dragonmandem account will be better as we'll all be doing our ranked battling on there. :)

Quick question: I assume that when you add someone through their CFN ID as a favourite, that the other person doesn't have the option to automatically favourite back? That would make it so much easier!

Also, I assume replays are automatically uploaded without any kind of limit? Apart from watching and learning from notable forumite fighters like Lyrical Donut, imp, JLM etc etc, I think it could be extremely handy to start watching some of my own replays. See everything I did wrong or could have done differently. In theory, when all of this works, the whole CFN thing is rather brilliant.

had a lovely little mini session with my long time sparring partner mrhoodedclaw, we went round the houses with our regulars, but had so much fun with characters weve never touched. If you'd say to me id be playing vega and r mika in this i'd have laughed at you, but really enjoying them.

I hope they optimize the loading as the menu and time it takes to get into a fight is so convoluted at the moment, however I'm grateful we could play without a hiccup. Worlds apart from launch day.

Yes, that's totally possible. Obviously we can't share friends lists across Steam and PSN, but in-game you can go to the CFN menu and search for any Capcom Fighters Network ID using that list @joffocakes linked to in the first post. Regardless of whether someone is on PS4 or PC. Then you add that ID to your favourites, thus building a list of friendly 'muk opponents in the CFN favourites menu all the way on the left. You can invite anyone from that in-game favourite list. Capcom done good in that regard :)

Great stuff. I added myself to the list earlier but I didn't know how to add anyone in the game. Will add everybody later.

I agree entirely. Even though I've dabbled with every major iteration since SFII, I still think I'm basically a beginner because I've never been any good and never learned anything past Ryu's fireball/dragon punch/spinning kick thing.

For a start, if someone could explain what all the different bars are, how they fill up and what you can use them for that would be ace. So far I've worked out that when the bottom EX bar is full you can launch a mega combo for massive damage and when the V bar is full you can press both Hard buttons to make your character kind of glow but I don't know what that does. I certainly don't understand V skills, V triggers and V reversals. I also have no idea whatsoever what the tiny bar under the health bar is. I'm sure there are obvious answers to most of these that will make me facepalm but it would be nice if the game bothered to explain any of this. (And yes, I have done the tutorial, twice!)

Having said all that, after my whinge about no fighters following VF4Evo's Quest mode example, I wonder if that's what Challenge mode will be? If so, it can't come soon enough (and it's ridiculous that it's absent at launch).

Big old massive GGs Jellum, you're still a gentleman and a bodier.

Just gonna have some lunch now, but I might be able to sneak in a cheeky half hour afterwards if you're still around. Your characters are all terrifying and patient and make me forget how to press cr.MP!

GG imp. A few horrible spells of teleporting but for the most part I thought it was perfectly playable. Kept eating loads of raw jump ins as FANG because I was pressing strong instead of fierce (Laura, Rashid and Mika all use MP as their main anti-airs!), was happy to take a game though as I haven't played him against humans too much, was fun trying to figure out how to defend myself. I ate so many more flying fish grabs with FANG as well because I don't have any instinctive button presses. That instant overhead MK is dirty though isn't it?

Against Laura, Jab elbow on block is -2 and on hit it's +2. Challenging with jab on block is good but it's extremely risky on hit.

I've missed fighting your Ryu. I think I need to keep doing that with Laura as it teaches me to be more patient in the neutral with her. I think at higher level she is going to have a hard time getting in. I can't imagine how I'd even hope to approach Fuzzy's Ryu with her. Her up close game is ludicrously potent though, and it might be enough to keep her in the mix at tournament level. Also if she's got V-Trigger stocked she can fish with standing MK like a maniac and it's really hard to avoid getting touched by it. It's like a budget fully stocked Gen from SFIV. Managed to do a set up I just learned this morning too, where you do crush counter sweep - > ex fireball - > dash in - > Corpse hop with soul through. Grimy Rose mix ups yesss. Also those low forward fireball supers were so demoralising to get hit by. Oh my days the damage.

Also I suspect light bull head on block with Birdie is a bad habit from ranked. Totally failed at punishing it with FANG but was getting it almost every time with Rashid. Sadly Rashid can only punish EX bullhead if he V-Reversals through the first hit and then punishes from the other side. Poor Rashid. Also that's one of the match ups I know the best at this point as I've had a lot of games against InfernoKong offline, and I'd say he's currently the best Birdie in Europe. And yeah, I was getting away with too many jumps against Birdie, but you know that already. The reason I do those scrubby raw jump - > late dive kicks with Rashid in that match up is that Harry/InfernoKong never misses a cr. MP. Ever. So I have to do that dive kick to occasionally discourage him.

Ah ha! Thanks for the tips! And I loved playing your Rashid, those whirlwind setups are vicious.

Escaping Laura pressure is terrifying. I'm so lost with Birdie especially about when I can press buttons or try to SPD any information is a great help, so thanks especially for that!

I'm actually pretty good about not doing the LP Bull Head on block thing in ranked - I usually throw it out to see if the opponent can punish or is in the habit of pressing buttons, and if they can't  deal with it I'll go nuts. I think with Rashid, I was just finding it so hard to get in that I was just desperately desperately hoping to catch you, and then with FANG, I was just being cheeky cos you were letting me get away with it. It is a bad habit though, I should stop.

Btw, I loved the meta game that developed in regards to the blockstring/SPD after a jump in, that was really fun!

Yeah I imagine a lot of people are letting it go, and the EX one even moreso. I was excited when HonzoGonzo put a video out showing how the entire cast punishes it, only to find out that Rashid doesn't have anything without spending big resources.

Isn't EX Flying Rashid Kick absolute nonsense too? One time I did it and landed in front of you and got punished, second time from roughly the same spacing it went clean through to the other side and I was safe. It's been like that since the first beta and seems to be intentional. I think the pass through is to make it easier to get the whirlwind set up and then corpse hop to put them between you and the wind, but it also means you can throw the move out in neutral and quite often get away with it. Also those EX spinning mixer lame traps, as dirty as they feel, I think Rashid has to do them. Jab spinning mixer without the additional mashed hits is -2 and I feel like if I don't do that occasionally I will lose my pressure to jabs every time. I try and do it when I have a decent amount of life and have given up the pressure to jabs a good few times first, but sometimes I just have to throw it in to keep my momentum and extend my turn when I'm after the stun or I feel like the opponent's patience has run out. The risk is big but I really think it's necessary.

My aim with FANG is to put up more of a fight next time. You were quite rightly taking liberties and beating me senseless, so it'll be a mark of progress each time I get closer to stopping that from happening. Right now I am terrified in that match up.

The post splash mix up with Birdie is horrible yeah, is it splash then grab, splash into tick into grab, is it command grab or regular grab, is it buttons into more buttons, is it block, is it button cancelled into light fish grab. Oh the options. Gotta love longer sets and adapting on the fly. I like that the battle lounge has that option to run FT5 sets with a quick rematch button. I think that's just about perfect and it also means there's a clear break after each set where you can change character and you won't have those miscommunications where one of you has switched to a pocket man and the other dude thought you were still running a set of the same match up.

That's a great video, and I will watch the others, but even though he was aiming it at absolute beginners he lost me by the end with some of those combos that he was just rattling off and not explaining what they were. I got MP HP HK but after that the others were just a blur of inputs.

Ironically I have found exactly what I was after, on the official site of all places:

http://streetfighter.com/how-to-play/

Now why couldn't they include a proper tutorial mode that takes you through all that step by step...

Managed a whole four fights against an America man in Battle Lounge. I'm bloody awful. I'm not even anti-airing with Ryu, which is like the most basic thing. Still not managed to get a Ranked match though.

The connection was passable, despite the distance, which gives me hope that it's not my internet's fault and things will improve.

My experience of the net code so far is that when it's bad it's much worse than SF4 but when it's good it's noticeably better. Played Imp on my connection at home that has never allowed me a playable game of SFIV and had mostly smooth running. There were some spells of rollback awfulness but it was mostly very good. I'm optimistic as well.

Going to shelve this and come back in a few months I think. There is just not enough to be doing in-between all the downtime at the moment. Each match wait is upwards of 7-10 minutes, and when you do...

It really needed some decent content to keep you interested, it shouldn't just be all about online.

is it just me or is everything taking an age to load with that, black box in the bottom right loading between menu selection and the likes.

Being called for a match and then returning to what you were doing is a mare for me.

I think I managed 5 matches in 1 hour (Ranked, either by waiting or searching across any system, any network strength etc), of which 1 rage-quit on me in the first round. I have better things I could be doing than this right now, it does not feel like fun to me right now.

Are you on PS4? Out of interest, how hideous are we talking about? If there's no need to connect to the servers each mode takes about a second to load up for me, but sometimes when connecting to another player it can take awhile. I'm wondering if that's due to the servers being slow in establishing the connection or whether the loading times on PS4 are that much worse.

Edit: and of course, just to be sure: are you really talking about loading times or about connecting with other players through matchmaking?
