I've never played.....

Like most my list is annoyingly long, but as far as forum favourites go this lot spring to mind:

SoTC

Ico

Shenmue 1 & 2

Half-life 1 & 2

Uncharted (all of them)

Red Dead Redemption

The Last of Us

I'll sort out the last one when I invest in a PS4 at some point this year, but sad to have missed out on the others when they were released, as my impression is they were all groundbreaking in their own way.

I've played most of the games i wanted to.

However, there are a few i do feel i missed out on.. however i have played some of them a bit.

Last of Us

Uncharted series (never had a ps3)

Bioshock Series(played the first game for a few hours but didn't get on with it)

There are other series, but i really not too fussed. ie Metal gear Solid - played the first, a bit of the second and that's it. Final Fantasy games i got far on 7 & 8 but never finished. I'd still like to play FF7 from start to finish though if i can put up with it.

Any of the Halo games. I've never owned an Xbox and never got round to playing the PC ports.

Playing Destiny really, really makes me want to play them all but by the sounds of things it might be worth waiting a while before shelling out for an Xbox & the MC collection.

My list of shame is embarrassing and would include:

All Metal Gear games

Ico and SoTC

The Uncharted games

The Last of Us

God of War games

Fallout games

BioShock (played it for a couple of hours)

Red Dead Redemption

Arkham Asylum/City

Twilight Princess (other than the first temple)

Zelda: LttP

Mario Galaxy/2

Metroid Prime trilogy

Super Metroid

Any point and click game

Any PC exclusive

Shenmue/2

Yakuza series

Any Resident Evil game that's not 4

Silent Hill series

Any Assassins Creed game

Any Call of Duty

Or Battle Field game

First Half Life or finish the second

Any Far Cry game since the first

Any Tomb Raider game

I'd better stop now.. Worst thing is I own a lot of these games but just haven't played them.

I honestly can't think of anything besides Mario Galaxy, which I really do need to put right. I suppose I've not played a FIFA or PES since the PS2 era, which is a bit of an omission, but not even I can bring myself to return to that genre in the hope that something clicks. Well, I guess there are classics from the 80s that I've never played - Archon, Jet Set Willy/Manic Miner, Head Over Heels, Rescue on Fractalus... But '90s onwards? There's not much I've skipped. Plenty I never finished, but few I've not tried.

No wonder I have, er, "strong opinions" on so many games.

Every time someone mentions Half-Life 1 or 2 a piece of me dies on the inside.

I wish I'd not played them, if that makes you feel any better :P

Also, Azrael's post makes me sad, this most of all:

Any point and click game

:(

I've never played any of the Monster Hunter games. I thought about doing so, but I couldn't decide which one to start with & as I tried to research a good entry point the Gameplay didn't sound that appealing, so I've just let it slide until such time as the be-all & end-all ultimate version of the game comes out, everyone raves about it & I'll finally give it a try, whereupon I'll either get sucked in or I wont be able to see what all the fuss is about.

Azrael's post makes me sad, this most of all: :(

Probably the bit I feel most guilty about. Never really had the systems for them back in the day, when I did eventually get a home computer I never really used it for gaming - just Soldier of Fortune and Max Payne - and spent most of the time on forums (or porn sites).

Probably get most of the games on Android or a modded DS now but would prefer to play them on a PC which I currently lack.

Did play a bit of Fate of Atlantis years ago at a cousin's house. Liked that from what little I played.

They transition well to smartphone (as you might expect) - I have fond memories of completing the iPhone version of Beneath a Steel Sky years ago. For a taster of the genre on Android I believe the first two Broken Sword games have Android adaptations, which should be nicer to play than games through ScummVM as they'll be fully optimised for touch control. As an added bonus, they are ace games (though I don't know what the "Director's Cut" stuff does to them.

Other than that, yeah, if you do get a PC (it absolutely doesn't need to be a gaming one) at some point you owe it to yourself to play through the classics - Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit The Road, Full Throttle, all are absolutely amazing and have aged wonderfully. After that you've games like Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey and Blade Runner, which are also brilliant but have aged with a bit less grace, and bite-sized modern brilliance in the form of Gemini Rue and the Blackwell games. And then there's the first three Monkey Islands, The Dig, Loom, the Kyrandia games, the Space Quest series, the Discworld games, Machinarium & co...

I'd also say that most P&C's actually work well as 'big screen' communal affairs if you've an other half/good friend to share them with - puzzle solving and fun dialogue work well with two.

I'm trying to work out why this thread makes me both angry and sad...

And wow Az'... What have you been playing then? :o

It's bad isn't it. Quite early into the Ps2/Xbox/GC generation I kind of fell out of love with gaming for a long time.

Got a 360 when Halo 3 came out and then pratically only played that for years online with friends. Built up a large collection of 360 games but was always distracted with Halo or the yearly FIFA installments to work my way through them. Bought a Wii but only for Smash Bros and never had a PS3 (until last week when I picked one up so could play Last of Us and the Uncharted games)

I was unemployed for quite a while so had so much free time that I could have spent working through the games I had missed out on, but also quite depressed and lacking that motivation.

Since getting into full time work I find myself not using the free time I have the best I could, when I have time to game its easy to jump into the usual stuff (Halo/Fifa/GTa) than play something new.

I should be getting a PC (either gaming or just one capable of playing the basic games) soon enough and hope to address some of the games I've missed out on including some you've mentioned so will likely refer to your post again at a later date. Totally get what you mean by the last point. The little I did play of FoA was great because it was with my cousin and uncle so was added to the experience by working together.

Yup, I'll put you on ignore from now on.

But now you won't be able to read the Unofficial Awards* and enjoy** my myriad excellent opinions :(

*or will you? I don't actually know whether 'ignore' blocks topics as well as posts. If not I imagine it would make for confusing reading.

**um

Good stuff! And you've timed it pretty well, as a bunch of the Lucasarts games have come out of hibernation and are finally available, pre-configured to work, on GOG.com. Also some Star Wars games, which are similarly ace, but in rather different genres.

(And with luck the upcoming Grim Fandango remaster, on PC and Sony consoles, will iron out the interface and graphics issues that make it a little hard to go back to and return it to the brilliant slice of adventure-noir it was at release, giving you yet another wonderful adventure to go back to)

So many I'm too lazy to list them all, but notable omissions would include:

1. Any Mario game apart from All Stars (which was 1, 2 and 3 on the SNES, right? I forget.)

2. Any Zelda game apart from Wind Waker

3. Any Final Fantasy

4. Any Playstation exclusive game after the PSOne.

5. Any MMORPG.

6. Any Monkey Island game (or Point and Click for that matter apart from Walking Dead off the top of my head)

7. All sorts of Bioshock, Gears of War, Arkham etc type franchises.

Thereafter it's a bunch of games I'd have loved to have tried but simply never did - Rez, Ico, Katamari, Okami, Bayonetta....

I feel like the Dreamcast and Gamecube (and to a lesser extent the MegaDrive) are the only consoles I ever got the most out of. Every other console I've owned I feel like I missed far too much.

Well clearly you didn't get the most out of the Dreamcast!

(And another point and clicker misser outer! Alas :()

I only ever played the first for around 40 minutes (and half of that was the train journey intro) and have never played the second. Never been a PC gamer apart from a period of playing Championship Manager and the ports for Half-Life on consoles never reviewed well.

I think the only thing mentioned here or anything particularly 'big' that I've not played is WoW. Or really any EA sports franchise (properly, anyway. I've played a few with my mates but not my cup o' tea) Oh actually , I've not finished the last lot of MGS's.

Pretty much anything of note since the C64 I've at least played for a bit I think... I don't whether that makes me happier about my gamer credentials or saddened :P

Ha, yes, I thought that might get picked up on.

Really though, Rez and Skies of Arcadia are the only big DC games I think I missed out on. Although we're going back... fuck, 15 years (!!) so I probably am forgetting something.
