In any workplace you get a feel if it's going in the right direction. As much as anything I'll bet a bit of intuition led him to leave.

Yeah a fair point and exactly how I currently feel about my workplace.

I'd be interested to see just how fundamentally different they're thinking.

Is it exotic materials and a new hyper drive unit ? or just a 2014 car with fucking great big wings on ?

Are they just addressing safety issues of driver head protection and avoiding tyre to tyre contact (by following the indy car route).

A future Ferrari yesterday

Actually the new Indycar tells you why that's not a "no rules" F1 car, it's too clean.

And to prove the point, with the aero rules opened up, welcome the new 2015 chevy indycars.

My friend won the fantasy racers game last season and has received the prize of a trip for two to the Belgian GP, and it looks like I'm going with him - v exciting!

The tickets are general admission but we can pay for upgrades. Has anyone been? Any recommendations on which grandstand we should go for?

I don't know about the locations of grandstands but there's a tradeoff between "Good view of race" and "Spa has some fucking spectacular corners".

At some point in the weekend you NEED to see F1 through Eau Rouge for instance but you're not going to see as much action in the race as you would at LaSource or especially the last chicane.

Conversely the problem with the last chicane is that it could be cars racing at any circuit there really which slightly misses the point of a Spa trip.

If there is, and we'll need someone who has been, a way to get roaming grandstand friday and saturday I'd make sure I tried Eau rouge, the top of the hill and the double left at the bottom whose name currently escapes me for practice and qualifying and then put myself at the final chicane for the race.

Isn't that just a kit for proper circuits thats added to the usually non downforce efficient indy car - its certainly not a 'look no rules this is what an indy car would look like' as i understand it

Fairly sure i read an article on it and it looks so hideous as it complies to the rules hence the wheel coverings etc

Banning the helmet changes does seems bit daft (although I'd take to identifying the Mercedes drivers by their gloves by the end of last season), but I noticed a few of the ex drivers expressed shock and horror when Vettel was alone in swapping all the time (Brundle said something like "in my day your helmet design was like your signature. It was part of who you were. You wouldn't dream of changing it, it's like having plastic surgery on your face"), so maybe a lot of the old boys making the rules still feel similarly.

It's good for the casual. There is no other way of quickly identifying who's who. Unless you know the gloves, or the dayglo flashes on the roll hoop.

Personally I'd like to see the helmet rule plus a larger minimum area on the side of the car for the number - say on the rear wing end plate. Numbers should be in standard positions, again so the casual knows where to look. The numbers are so small at the mo they might as well not bother.

Yeah, the point is, the Ferrari "No rules" car was too smooth, like the old Indycar.

If it really was a no-limits F1 car it'd be full of wings, as the Indycar is even with only a little opening of the rules.

Yeah, I wonder how many casual fans know the was Renault power, compared to how many know it was Red Bull and indeed how many know Renault fucked up early last year. (As did Ferrari but seem to have escaped all notice for it).

It's the Pirelli problem. No-one knows when you do well, everyone knows if you fuck up.

Think it's just precautionary. There is a slightly concerning rumour that his crash was due to him passing out in the car, mind. Hopefully that isn't the case, and if it was hopefully it was due to him having the same bug Lewis did earlier in the week rather than just randomly.
