He seems to know very little about games and the industry in general, as you say he adds absolutely nothing.

He's the guy that'll prompt the experts to actually explain why a game is regarded as historically important or to at least dumb it down, since a fair chunk of thier audience is going to be like Ben.   You'll notice they do that to each other sometimes.  I don't mind the guy at all really. He fulfils a purpose and that purpose is NOT to be the expert so the real experts don't miss out details that they would assume everyone else knows already.

Edit: didn't realize this video is censored to the point of being unwatchable. The Twitch archive is still up for now though and uncensored:

It was a great show, good laughs had throughout...

Don't watch anything else on that stream at all, the "anime community" as a whole is something I don't want to subject anyone to.

Ben is fine in audio form, but he really needs to watch himself back on the podcast video feeds because whenever he’s not talking he looks his brain has stopped working and he just can’t look at anyone while they talk.

But he totally doesn't. He interrupts the experts as they're explaining stuff. He'll interrupt even when they're starting off with the basic information of the game - as the person who's speaking tries to rattle off stuff like platforms, price, and genre, Ben will chime in with a lame pun and draw it out for aaaaaaages, after which the person who was speaking in the first place often has forgotten what they were talking about and so the information is never given. If he actually did what you're describing, I wouldn't mind Ben at all.

...and it's over to the Giant Beast pundits with the latest World Cup analysis:

'I've been enjoying the soccer'

'Me too, I watched Britain Columbia. British Colombia'

'Isn't it England? Britain is the whole Empire'

'No, England is the country, Britain is the general culture'

'Oh I see'

Dan wasn't even there this week...

It never ceases to amaze how little the average American seems to know about *anything* outside the US itself, including its direct neighbors. I do wonder if the others realize that they're all as naive as Dan when it comes to that stuff, it's just that Dan isn't shy about it. It makes for entertaining listening though, I'm not offended by it. Alex and Bakalar seem to be the most (relatively speaking) knowledgeable, and respect to Bakalar for always bigging up my hometown Amsterdam.

In their defence Great Britain generally competes as one entity at big sports events like the Olympics. So England competing separately would be new unless they follow cricket or rugby. I really enjoyed the Beastcast this week and realised that like Vinny I am now in my classic rock phase because classic rock is now everything before 2005.

I've never forgetten a Bombcast from years and years ago where they were reading out a Nintendo DS release schedule or something and in so doing discovered the concurrent existence of both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

"Oh, guess they have two Irelands over there? Weird".

Yeah, they don't have any particularly engaging series on the go at the moment and there's no games coming out at the moment to cover. I am stunned they're still running that shitty Xcom series. For recent videos I recommend the GBE Megadate from July 6th.

It seems they'll soon start a GTA Online series which doesn't really appeal but might work with Dan and Vinny bringing their usual elements of chaos.

There must be some weird adventure games out there for Vinny and Alex to have a good time with. Also, a Dan/Vinny Persona 5 series please.

Giantbomb is now 10 years old

I didn't follow Gamespot at all and only found out about who Jeff was and his firing from a thread here. All of those crappy Kinect games they played and the Bombcast made me a fan and while I don't watch as much content as I used to I hope they go on for years to come.

Struggling to watch ANY of Giant Bombs new output these days, sadly. Listen to the Bombcast but that's about it these days :(

I haven’t even listened to a podcast since E3. I think I was getting a bit sick of them and just complained about what I did listen to.

Hopefully when the release schedule becomes a bit more interesting I’ll give them another listen and get more enjoyment out of it.
