Yeah, he sure does like to vent his views, particularly on VR and crazy graphics cards that nobody needs, yet he still gets them anyway, and why shouldn't he. Jeff ain't broke.

Rather listen to that than Jan and Grubb boring me to death about Anime and Pokemion, both of which are my least interesting subjects.

I was just old enough that pokemon was not for me but for kids, so it annoys me to see grown men and women sometimes in their 40's still droning on about catching pokemon. I get it, it's what you grew up on.

But it's so lame to me.

There is nothing funnier than gamers who complain that some other type of game is for kids.

No, me I like grey games. Or gun games. Or whatever the fuck thing you want to think gaming.

Sure, you don't like listening to that content so you move on and listen to something else. But the rest of the take is just complete garbage.

No, he's right. If you saw a 40+ year old colouring in his Pokemon colouring book, or driving a little sit-in Ferrari around his garden you'd think he was a bit odd, but that's how we look to a lot of non-gamers.

As for Gerstmann, I stopped listening to the Bombcast when his monologues became ever longer and more rambling, to the point where I realised I was skipping more than half the runtime, so I'm glad he has his own thing now for the people who, for some reason, want that.

Whatever.

I said TO ME it's lame, but Ilso said that I understand it, trust me. As a rasslin' fan friends have lolled at me all my life, and they are right to.

If I was 5 years younger I'd probably be a fan of Pokemon. I don't understand what your problem is.

For me it's more that Jeff is entertaining to listen to. I don't give a fuck about energy drinks, wrestling, or woodworking. But I'm hugely entertained listening to the likes of Jeff G, Ryan ( :( ), and Vinny talk about it.

While the likes of Grubb, Jess, Ben and to a lesser but still palpable degree Jan, bore or annoy me even if they were to talk about Tenchu and Hulk.

It's not the subject matter that's at fault here, it's the presentation and talent behind it.

On the subject of Giant Bomb, I've started listening to the Bombcast from the very first episodes arrow pointing down. Apart from making me sad about Ryan, it's amazing how entertaining those episodes still are. And Jeff is already talking about Trackmania lol

Yeah, he was great all round. As someone who was listening from the start it really hit hard when Ryan passed. Like losing someone you actually hang out with and know pretty well. Even though you don't really at all.

Sad times.

I watched them talk over the Nintendo Direct last night, which is the first video of theirs I've watched since Jeff left (and, really, the first full video I've watched since the Nextlander crew left). I can honestly say I won't be watching another video from GB. Bakalar was basically mute. Jan was a shadow of his former entertaining self. Grubb was irritating and Dan's schtick 100000% doesn't work without the old GBeast lot for him to bounce off.

Just take GB out back and put it out of my misery. It's done. There's nothing worth salvaging there.

They appear on Grubb's news stream which regularly gets views of up to 90 people.

Yeah. I never watched anything live anymore but just looking at how few comments there are on the videos....it doesn't look good. After a full weekend the latest UPF only had 4 comments. One of which was spam. The other three were people complaining that UPF has now just become a show where they play one game (this time it was Fortnite).

On the plus side, I'm rewatching the GB Endurance Run of Persona 4 alongside playing it on PS5. A glorious time.

I'm still not 100% sure about what really happened with Jeff. He said he was fired about two weeks before he was going to quit, but who fired him?

I thought it was Jeff Bakalar who is calling those shots now. Should fall under his remit as GM. He never really worked with the west coast that much, did he? Only the Beastcast, which may be why Dan was offered a way back in.

Yeah, I was thinking it was Bakalar but then Jeff mentioned that he met him at the game awards and was good to see him. I suppose Jeff G was on a pretty hefty salary compared to most so cutting costs is an excuse...but still.

Well he's better off now by far, this would be Jeff's final form and it's the best he's ever been as far as podcasting/streaming goes.

I've found that putting Jeff on 1.5 speed on the podcasst makes his patented rants more bearable.   They were entertaining the first few times but seem quite formulaic now.

But once again there was good stuff to listen to anyway. He knows his shit.

When you go look at what was promised for the relaunch it does seem like Grubb is the only one who ended up actually doing what they said they'd do on that video. I understand that daily news show presented from his basement probably involves the least elaborate setup of anything they had planned for the site but the whole relaunch never went anywhere which is a bummer as I was willing to give it a chance.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have to say I’ve loved the last two episodes of the Bombcast. Last episode it was plenty of good wrestling chat with latest storylines to start and then talk of fucking sexy fridges.  Latest episode chat about whether dhalsims dick is also stretchy had me grinning.  Puerile.  I love it.

He always gave a person touch when it came to the community. Even going as far as to say any premium members on holiday in San Francisco can get a tour of the office if they wish.

With him gone I can see it getting a lot more corporate.

I think he used to do things like go for a drink with members at pax or even just around San Francisco.

Also he made Alpha Protocol all by himself. Hopefully he's off to make the sequel

I believe Matthew Rorie handled the subscriptions. I never wanted to cancel my subscription as I felt awkward knowing he'd be reading my request, even if he doesn't know me from Adam.

Thankfully it stopped automatically when I got a new debit card and I didn't have to imagine his disappointed face. :)
