I bought a PS4 just because it had been so long since the last gen, it was cheap and I knew I'd be getting games every month with PS+. We also knew it would likely be more powerful than the One.

Bought a Wii U because they were cheap and for W101, Bayo 2 and Mario 3D World. Never thought I'd say it, but Bayo 2 is largely a let down.

I'm determined not to buy an Xbox One just yet, because I haven't got time to use it, there's not enough exclusives I want and because I'd like the satisfaction of picking one up late in it's life for very little money and having a nice cheap back catalog. Also, the whole reveal stuff still puts me off a little bit. I might not wait until it's end of life, but at least until the first hardware refresh, because I don't want that ugly mammoth under my TV.

I bought a PS4, because I stupidly believed the Sony hype train once again that MOAR POWER would mean a far better experience. So far, meh/10 - patching still sucks and PSN is flaky. Also Driveclub was a let down, shonky AI and non-existant online at launch meant it was only half the game we were promised.

Xbox One. Owning 2 360's I suddenly realised if I got Game to pricematch CEX I could offload my ancient 360 elite and disks - keeping my 360 slim and all the XBLA stuff I actually still played, and get a Bone with Kinect & Forza 5 for about £130 (this is before the price drop / kinectless version) - to be fair it's been a pretty decent console, but I'm mainly a fan of racing games & pinball - so it ticked the boxes for me there. Kinect is still a waste of space though

WiiU - Swapped a dude on here for my Vita - although I did end up picking up another Vita when I switched to a job involving train commute. No regrets, Lego City & Super Mario 3D World made it worth it. If I'm being brutally honest, out of the three, the Wii U has the best games. The most criticism I've heard of the Wii U is "yeah but it's the same old Nintendo Franchises" - which as far as I'm concerend is equally applicable to all platforms these days, with the exception of indie games.

In hindsight, I'd have avoided both the bone and PS4, and kept my PC & WiiU.

PS4 : No specific game, just had the money for one of the consoles. I guess Driveclub seemed interesting at the time.

XBone : Forza Horizon 2

WiiU : No specific game, although Mario Kart 8 was the nearest thing to a trigger.

PS4: Bloodborne

Xbone: Halo and Titanfall

Wii U: Bayonetta 2

I wanted to love Xbox One, but after 5 replacement consoles in 4 months, poor game performance and MCC still not working I've given up. I was a massive Xbox fanboy in the brick/360 days as well.

I got confused by the "plan to own" questions. Did you mean "Which OTHER consoles do you plan to own?" or, "Which of your current consoles do you plan to STILL own?" The confusion may be causing an anomolous number of "None of these" answers.

Anyway.

I got a PS4, not particularly for any single game, but because it was about time to join the current gen. I had resisted buying some games that also had PS3/360 releases because I knew they would be much prettier on the next generation, and I finally got eager enough to jump in.

Or the answer for your list: PS4: The Last of Us Remastered and Dragon Age Inquisition.

Wii U: bought for Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2

3DS: bought for Fire Emblem and Phoenix Wright

Vita: bought for Wipeout 2048 and Gravity Rush

I plan to buy a PS4 for Persona 5 (and potentially Rock Band, depending on DLC transferral - if it's cross-platform but not cross-company, that'll mean my buying a Bone at some point too, but probably not this year even so)

PS4 : was PS3 only on the previous gen so it made sense to go PS4 especially since it felt like the better offering this time around. Waited a year for it though, in order to give it time to build a decent enough library and accumulate PS+ games. So there's no one game that pushed me to get one for Christmas last year but being able to grab Shadow of Mordor, GTA V and Last of Us remastered alongside it certainly felt like I would get my money's worth. And obviously Bloodborne has been the stand out so far.

Vita: liked the PSP enough so grabbed a Vita because it felt like everything I wanted out of a portable system. Again, no one game in particular convinced me, I just wanted in on the overall experience. Shame about the retail support (though I have enough games that I bought and haven't played yet, Persona 4 chief among them that I'm not wanting for anything) but it's my go to machines for indie stuff. Also, being able to play my favorite game (MGS3) in bed was a nice bonus.

3DS: nabbed one last summer and in this case it was because I wanted to be able to play Ace Attorney : Dual Destinies. Which I bought when it was on sale in October and only started a month ago, but there you go. It's a good little machine even though I preferred the DS for the breadth of games that this newer one hasn't enjoyed quite yet. Also somewhat pissed that the New 3DS was announced a couple months after I bought one, as the same thing happened with DS/DS Lite. Fuckers.

As for the future, will probably get a Wii U around the time Zelda is released if it has dropped in price. I played Bayo 2 and Wonderful 101 by borrowing a friend's console and these are so great that I know I'll want to to own them at some point.

I bought my Vita to play Persona 4 Golden. Shocking, I know.

The PS4 purchase was for a few reasons. At the time the new consoles were coming out, the only last-gen console I owned was a 360, and I had my eye on a PS4 because Sony delivered such a strong message and had a fairly decent lineup. Then Persona 5 got announced as a PS3 release and I panicked, because it meant that I'd have to pick up two Sony consoles if I wanted to enjoy Atlus' latest and some new-gen goodness... but then P5 got announced as a cross-generation release, so that helped a bunch.

Aside from that, I wanted to play Bloodborne, and Amplitude was looking good too. And there's No Man's Sky on the way, and...and...

Oh and I opted for "planning to own a 2/3DS at some point" - which is what I said in the last poll. Just waiting for them to settle on a piece of hardware that isn't made redundant in a few months by a newer, shinier version. ;)

Wii U: Rayman Legends sold me the console, but the game that actually came with the console (as Legends got delayed and became multi-platform) was Nintendoland, which I bore of quite quickly. Also on the usual promise of good Nintendo stuff. It's been iffy so far.

Xbox One: Came with Forza, which I dislike as I hate simulation racers, but it was either that or football, which I hate (playing) even more. Also on the promise of Microsoft eventually sticking their thumbs out their behinds. Also came wth Kinect. I still own no other game for it. Oh, except for free Limbo which is already played on 360, and yet another Forza. Which at least is a little more arcadey. The indie game that looks like a classic black and white era cartoon has tons of promise. Sunset Overdrive and Fantasia are the first retail games I still want. The console came also came with Kinect.

PS4: Came with...uh...oh yes Resogun! Which is fantastic. I also got to play Flower for the first time on it. I've bought no games but PS+ has provided genuine enjoyment. Disgaea 5 will probably be the first retail game I get.

I'll write handhelds later, need to grab a coffee.

Ahh, that's better. Now, where was I?

PS Vita: Lumines, I grew to be a big fan thanks to the 360 Live Arcade version. The amount of titles thanks to PS+ that has given enjoyment has been countless now. Add to Sony's actually good sales over the years and I haven't minded going nearly full digital for this handheld. Honestly wish I had more time to dedicate to it. Criminal that software is drying up for it.

3DS: I honestly can't remember what I chose at launch. Nintendogs and...Star Fox? Was that available at launch? I avoided Pilotwings anyway. OOT3D made the system worth it but ownership relied on the sheer success of the DS. 3DS hasn't been filled with amazement in quite the same way, and it's had one too many system iterations too quickly, but good stuff still (and still is) coming out of it.

PS4: Bought as a gift and, although I wanted one eventually, there was nothing at that time I would have specifically bought one for

Wii U: Mario Kart 8

Xbox One: Forza Horizon

Also, the questions need a 'not applicable' as well as 'none of these' so as to not skew the results.

PS4: Shadow of Mordor and Don Mattrick

Vita: P4G

Wii U: Nintendo's E3 press conference last year, it was just full of games that looked colourful, fun, and a joy to play (e.g. Wooly Yoshi).

PS4 - got it knowing it would be my main console of choice for the next 5 odd years, but the initial games which appealed were Battlefield 4, Resogun and Outlast.

Vita - Gravity Rush and Persona 4

Wii U - havn't got one yet but Xenoblade and Zelda will probably push me over the edge. But the absolute main selling point for me is being able to play on the game pad. With limited TV time due to wife/child his could be a game changer for me.

I only have a Wii-U which my gf gave me yesterday as an anniversary present. Haven't even opened it yet. Is there an 'I've got a Wii-U and know nothing about it; what games should I buy, how do I link it to my Wii account? Etc' thread?

PS4 - Nothing specific, but I've salivated over reviews for Alien:Isolation and Shadow of Mordor. I would have gone with the Bone, as I was upgrading from a 360, if it wasn't for the Microsoft pre-release disaster.

Vita - Again, nothing specfic. I knew I was going to get a PS4 at some later date and I'd be ready for the remote-play feature.

3DS - Mariokart 7.

For games, read this post in the Wii U thread and maybe on for a couple of pages:

I asked a similar question after buying the Zelda HD pack.

I owned all the consoles last gen, went full PC this gen again but consolified (controller, couch, big screen telly) and can't remember the last time I had any console on. 3DS is gathering dust too, not had it on in at least 6 months.

Wii U: Like Dekay said, I bought it because Nintendo games (though Zombi U and Monster Hunter 3 is great, and Lego City is brilliant)

XBone: Sunset Overdrive

PSVita: Everybody's Golf

3DS: I bought it alongside Legend of Zelda, but I was really waiting for eventual Pokémon & Animal Crossing... yeah. (They came out two years after I bought the system, I think)

I plan to get PS4 at some point, mainly for Kingdom Hearts III.

You know you're not supposed to keep your consoles in the bath right?
