Wii U - Zelda Wind Waker HD (which I still haven't started, but I have completed Mario 3D World so that's ok)

PSVita - Everybody's Golf and PS plus indie goodness.

I plan on buying an XBOX One for new Rock Band, new HALO and new Gears of War (not remake) and to continue my obsession with achievements. I'm hoping for a smaller version to be unveiled at E3 with a larger hard drive.

I have no intention of buying a PS4, after getting a PS3 solely for The Last Guardian and it never coming out. Unless they announce The Last Guardian for PS4, at which point I will buy one immediately.

Man, I'm not seeing a compelling reason to get a PS4 or XBone in these replies; although now a Vita is beginning to look tempting...

I expect some killer exclusive is on the way in the next year or two; takes a couple of years for a compelling catalog to build up. What do you other abstainers think might tip your hand?

Elder Scrolls Online prompted my Xbox One purchase (even though it seems to get slated as not worthy of the Elder Scrolls name :P), with it happening a month or so prior to the game's release because Tesco had a good deal on featuring Forza Horizon 2 (which was on my "must buy when I get the machine" list, even if not a system seller itself).

Handheld-wise, I think it was Pokemon Y, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart which got me to buy the 3DSxl, even though they'd all been out for ages by then.

Wii U: New Super Mario Bros U

PS4: Bloodborne

Vita: Rayman Origins  - shutup, it still looks gorgeous on dat screen.

3DS: Mario Kart 7

New 3DS XL: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

I was a bit of a 360 fanboy last gen, but the pre-launch campaign/announce info for the One utterly destroyed my enthusiasm for the brand and, rightly or wrongly, I can't see that changing at this point, especially as my time for gaming has been significantly reduced lately: I already have far more than I have time to play!

Bought the Wii U for Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, and the (as yet unreleased) Legend of Zelda.

Not sure why I bought the PS4, caught up in the hype I think! Didn't buy it for any specific game.

Bought the Vita not for a specific game, but rather for the wealth of great indie offerings.

(If there was a question 'Which consoles are you pleased that you bought?', my answer would be that the Wii U and Vita are absolutely brilliant, but I've found the PS4 lacking - to the extent that if I could get my money back I would. It's a nice console, but at this stage I don't have enough videogaming hours to warrant owning it. I only bought a Wii U recently - I was late to the party - and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who is looking for some videogame FUN.)

I'd probably have both of them by now if they did backwards compatibility.

As above, I felt a bit shafted not being able to carry across my digital library on the 360 so went full on PC this gen and loving it. No plans to get any of the consoles in the foreseeable future. Looking forwards to VR goodness later this year.

Only had a Wii and 360 last gen, along with a PSP and DS Lite.

Regretted getting the Wii on release (a US import no less) considering how the price fell and how cheap certain games became. The release schedule was slow as well.

....

Switched to PS4 this gen. No plans for a Bone as I feel the PS4 covers it all. Definitely have plans for a Wii-U, when they're like £20, and then I'll buy all the games I've missed out on in bulk - though if it is like the Wii, certain titles will remain expensive. But at least I'll have a load of games to play, rather than paying full price for a Wii-U and waiting, waiting, waiting on games.

Also have the Vita, which compliments the PS4, have no plans to go back to the DS at this point. Not even when they're cheap.

I feel the same. Last gen I had an Xbox 360 and I felt pretty 'loyal' to it, never even buying a PS3 when they got cheaper.

However, I permanently lost respect for Microsoft in the pre-launch news for the Xbox One. Scary ideas: stripping the license from a disc once it has been installed, to prevent sharing or reselling. Bonehead ideas: making Kinect mandatory, adding to the bundle price, for a hardware gimmick everyone knows is shit. "But they REVERSED these decisions, so what's your problem?" It's hard to respect a company that even came up with those ideas in their board rooms, and thought it was a good idea to publically announce them. Microsoft showed themselves to be a bunch of corporate suits who don't care about the spirit of gaming, and I don't trust them to stay away from bright ideas like that again in the future.

Sony may not be much better, but eh -- I don't feel like I have much reason to mistrust them. They just make a sweet games console. PSN account hacking issues are my only cause for concern.

Thanks for the responses. Clearly a bit of confusion with some of the questions about ownership in 12 months or further in the future, which I will try to sort out if I run this poll again in the future. But the headline results are interesting for people who like stats'n'stuff.

Did we ever do this for the new-gen? I tried searching but couldn't find anything...

Also I notice that this poll groups Wii U with PS4 and XB1, which I agree with. Even if it launched much sooner, Switch is competing against PS5 and Xbox Series right now. (Unless you want to do some twisted "Switch or One X or PS4 Pro" poll.)

I'd make the options something like

PS5 only

Switch only

Xbox Series only

PS5 and Switch

PS5 and Xbox Series

Switch and Xbox Series

PS5, Switch and Xbox Series

None

- and take out the handheld polls entirely.

I would make a thread myself but I don't have @BossSaru's graph tech.
