It's that day of the month: "Audible Credit Day" woo!

So I got Last Argument of Kings, I think I want Steven Pacey to read all books to me now, it may just be the Abercrombie novels, but he's a fucking great narrator.

Just looking at some of the other authors he reads for:

Susan Hill

Andy Mcnab

JG Ballad (Empire of the Sun)

Simon Scarrow

Martin Amis

Frederick Forsyth

Ian McEwan...

Blimey! That'd keep me pretty busy.

Half way through Before They Are Hanged now. His voice is like silk.

My only real gripe with Abercrombie's story so far is

The lack of loss. After Game of Thrones it feels like the characters have had too easy a time. Not a single major death yet in 35 hours of audiobook. Not that I want anyone to die, but there hasn't been a sucker punch yet. Oh man it's going to be all the more horrible when it happens.

It's also basically just been confirmed from Byaz's conversation with Zacharus that Byaz, Logan, Ferro and Jezal will all make it to their destination, because they're all needed for whatever ritual he's planning. Takes the edge off a bit. (Please don't reply if any different, however!)

I've a feeling that will change in book 3, however. In any case I'm a huge fan of this trilogy. The only dull bits have been the big battles. The strength is in the world building, characterisation and dialogues. Glokta.

Still no invite to come back from Audible...they must really hate me! :(

I just finished listening to William Gibson's The Peripheral, which I heartily enjoyed. A decent reading from Lorelei King, and even though it's kind of identical to every Gibson novel ever, that suits me fine.

And to continue listening to SF writers who write the same book each time but different, I've now got Peter Kenny reading M. Banks' Surface Detail on the go. I'm hooked already.

Yeah. I've read them all before, but listening to them has really riveted me. I've already bought Best Served Cold. :)

And as I've just finished Last Argument of Kings, I'll be starting on that one shortly :) I really enjoyed it when I read it and now I realise who more of the characters are... :) Looking forward to it.

Say one thing for Logan Ninefingers...

...say that he is a cunt.

I am listening to a sublime reading of Ray Bradbury's Illustrated Man at the moment, it's this one, read by Paul Michael Garcia: http://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Sci-Fi-Fantasy/The-Illustrated-Man-Audiobook/B004FTFSCW/ref=a_search_c4_1_1_srTtl?qid=1441747444&sr=1-1

His reading is so perfect, he has shot straight to the top of my favourite readers list. I can't recommend this audiobook highly enough. Obviously Bradbury's writing is magnificent, but this guy nails it completely. It's peerless. There are a couple of versions of this on Audible - listen to this one!

I decided to cancel my subscription for the moment and now just get the daily deal emailed to me every day and grab the ones I want. Already getting a backlog of great books for either £2 or £3. One of them is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, a highly rated fantasy and over 50 hours! I now love audiobooks - I'm not sure I'll read a book again.

I got Red Country a couple of days ago. I must admit I got quite emotional when Shy and her "dad" caught up with those three in the bar... gawd bless him! And I also yelled "Shivers!" in the car when he turned up eating his lunch :)

Forgotten so much, only read it three years ago or so...

Just a heads up to the people waiting on Audible to get back in touch with an offer,

The two things I have been doing is switching my sub between the US and UK audible site. As it allowed me to have the free trial from the US site after i'd canceled my UK one,

The other thing I ended up being able to do is after i'd cancelled me US sub, I then tried a referral link online which offered two credits on a 30 day trail, it gave me the 30 day trial and 2 credits even though I had already been a member before and only cancelled it like 30 minutes before hand.(they also then gave me half price for 3 months when I went to cancel)

Might be worth giving it a try

Yes, as long as you have downloaded the book.

So I can login to the US account and download a book. then I can login to the UK and download a book and I can have both on my phone at the same time.

Actually this peaked my interest so I went looking for audible codes and I've now just gone and logged into my UK account which doesn't have an active SUB and used the promo code OCT99 which gives you 3 months for 99p a month. :)

This code just worked for me and bagged me 3 months for 99p a month - thanks.

I love Audible. I'm gonna put that deal in the bargains forum.

I just used this, I'm back on the Audible tip! :hat:

I've been wanting to pick up Heinlein's Expanded Universe Volume 2 for a while...typical I should get this just as the new Hardcore history drops in to Downcast. :quote:
