Every time I pick up the controller I just stab A a few times in quick succession. Beautifu

It's all about twiddling the c-stick like a nipple, for me. Lovely controller. The small d-pad was the only let-down, really.

Think I might try Rogue Squadron next, I've never played any of these.

Not enjoying this either. My GameCube journey is off to  poor start.

So what should I try next? I have:

Pikmin

Wave Race

Paper Mario

Mario Sunshine

Fire Emblem

Paper Mario 2 is one of the best RPGs I've played. It really starts to pick up from chapter 3 onwards, but every chapter is unique and brilliant in some way. There's a wrestling competition and a murder mystery, to give you an idea.

You had all those games to choose from and you went with Rogue Squadron? That's. .. unfortunate. Any one of those games has aged far better than Rogue Squadron,  which *whispers* was never good to begin with. It was a launch title, it was exclusive,  and it was Star wars - early adopters really wanted it to be good.

Rogue squadron in the cube has not aged a day, what on earth are you talking about? Its probably the most technically advanced launch game on any console. It still looks fantastic.

Its only probkem, it's hard as nails.

Guys, just curious is fire emblem worth getting? ^_^ It being at such a high price now I'm wondering if it's worth getting. I assume it's never going to come down in price?

I've £100 to use at CEX so I'm thinking that or Skies of Arcadia, 2 types of games I genuinely love and wouldn't buy usually because of the price

Both are brilliant. I'd probably go Skies of Arcadia, as there are plenty of other cheaper games in the FE series you could pick up as an alternative.

I have Lego Star Wars for the US Gamecube. The packaging relates entirely to the first Lego Star Wars. However, inside the case there are two game disks, one for the first Lego Star Wars and the other for the Original Trilogy. My question is, was this ever a proper release? Or has someone simply gone to the effort of finding a case that holds two disks, and plonked his copy of the Original Trilogy in there as well? It's all very strange.

Going back to Fire Emblem and Skies of Arcadia.

It really comes down to what you want out of the games. Path of Radiance isn't the hardest Fire Emblem game and a lot of people would argue that other FE games are better mechanically (although that is debatable as PoR also has mechanics other FE games ought to have) but I think Path of Radiance is a contender for the best written western FE game, the plot isn't the most original (it's basically Star Wars/Heroes Journey 101) but the story is logical, the character motivations are clear, the character development is fantastic (the support system really shines in the game because of it), and finally unlike Fates and Awakening PoR doesn't feel like a collection of anime tropes.

It does share some issues with other Fire Emblem games, be prepared to read FAQ's frequently because some of characters recruitment conditions will leave you completely dumbfounded (or in the case of one chapter, make you unaware there is a character at all). Also the music is excellent, just need to put that out there.

Skies of Arcadia on the other hand is very traditional as an RPG, the story isn't particularly original, there's a lot of random battles to the point where the gamecube version toned them down and increased exp gain, and events have a tendency to repeat themselves in the story (fly to new island, meet new culture, do dungeon, airship battle, get mcguffin).

That all said what makes the game are all the things it excels at. The tone of the game is incredibly uplifting, the protagonists are all likable with the main trio having a contrast of personalities that causes them to have good chemistry with each other. The airship battles are legitimately fun and require strategy. The side quests are also varied, fun and rewarding. These aspects go a long way to making the game memorable when you reflect on it years later remembering only these aspects of the game and not the hours you lost to dungeon solving. The game has a handful of issues but many of them are small issues seen in most old JRPG's (hope you like reading FAQ's so you don't miss stuff).

No matter which game you buy you'll be getting something good. Skies will give you more play time for your money if you only want to do the one playthrough.

Thank you @Dig Dug the ideal reply. I'll mull it over this evening but I suspect my choice will be Skies of Arcadia and try and put some cash aside for the other further down the road :)

Maybe I'll use some of the rest to pick up Suikoden IV, it's the only one of the PS2 Suikoden's i'm missing ^_^

Personally I would err on the side of Skies of Arcadia, simply because that is the best version of a brilliant, standalone JRPG, while Fire Emblem is 'just' a solid entry in a great SRPG series.

(I also personally find that the Fire Emblem series suits portable gameplay best, plus the fact that Path of Radiance is comfortably the ugliest of the Western released Fire Emblems bar the unfortunate Shadow Dragon makes me loathe to recommend it first in the series; I'd always go for the GBA titles first)

The Wii Fire Emblem is just as ugly, but not as good.

Well, Im playing it on my 42" TV and it's very hard to make out hostiles or objects that should be shot from anything but 2 ft away

What cable are you using?

I am using a Component cable, one I bought from some cheap ass chinese website - maybe a better quality one would help with that? I am playing it through the Wii also.

Maybe I'll give it another shot, people always say RS1,2 and 3 are so good, but I never got very far in them and didn't think much of them. I'll replay them!

Is it a first party component cable, buizel? As far as I'm aware the chip has never been reproduced, although things are edging closer.

Why is the component cable so hard to reproduce?

I've got an official cable and was amazed to find the silly things sell for £200+ on ebay.  Other than a slightly better picture than s-video (and progressive scan) what else does it give? Thinking of selling on but don't fancy losing out to a MUCH shitter picture.

It's because the picture is sent from the digital video port, then the cable has a digital to analogue converter built into it, which makes no sense really. So it's a complex cable that's difficult to reproduce, and it was only released in Japan iirc.
