I have refound my love for the gameboy. Haven't used one in years but picked on up a couple of months ago and love it. Going to backlights and bivert it so I can play it better, it's such a great handheld. I didn't give the advance much time at all but I've started collecting for it too.

The EZ Flash is a pretty decent flash cart, although it doesn't have 100% compatibility (NES Classics don't seem to work, but can apparently be patched).

Hopefully the Switch will bring back the era of 8-bit/16-bit remakes that happened with the GBA. There are some real classics that have been updated (Metroid Zero Mission, River City Ransom, Manic Miner.. erm..)

The GBA Micro is a great little console, yeah it's a little bit too small, but I miss the days of when portable meant small (I guess it's roughly the same size as an old mobile phone, compare that with the iPhone!).

I still like to whip it out my pink one (FNAAARRR) and play with it in Coffee shops until I'm shouting with joy.

Yep. The patches are easy to apply.

I have my pre-patched ROM pack on Google Drive if anyone goes the EZ Flash route. I've also applied all the audio/contrast fixes for things like Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy.

The two ARPG LotR games seem like excellent Diablo clones. I'd assumed they were the standard GBA movie license platformers and just brushed over them until I saw someone recommend them with a bunch of other RPG's.

I remember being really into the hobbit on GBA back in the day, not sure why i just think i loved the atmosphere. Should really check out the gc version...

Those 2 games you mentioned look cool, and 2 player co-op sounds like those games could be pretty underrated for multipalyer!

What would be the best way to mod a Gameboy Color to give it a backlight? Looking on eBay, there are some mod kits but they look like they're for mono Gameboy's, so they've got a colour hue to them (like blue or green).

I was thinking of getting a GB Boy, but then I've got a couple of GBCs that I could mod..

Look at that little beauty.  Not a mark on it.  Chuffed with that, although my hands are cramping up just looking at it...

That's magnified x100 under a microscope.

I find the micro comfortable even for long sessions. Average sized hands. SP is cramp mania.

I stopped playing on my Micro after a replay of Zero Mission had to be repeatedly interrupted by blood-flow exercises.

I'm just not into turn based RPGs and other more sedate, non-L-and-R-button-hammering games enough to look at the Micro as a realistic gaming device.

It's not even great for that, the text on loads of SRPGs are tiny. Still I love the thing.

I played all of Zero Mission and Fusion, as well as all the Castlevania games, and a hundred hours on Final Fantasy Tactics, and Minish Cap, on my Micro
