Just forked out for a RetroSix Prestige All black GBA.  

 

Got a few boxed games coming too…

 

GB Motocross Madness

GB Navy Seals

GB Golf

GB Tennis

GBA NES Classics Zelda

GBA NES Classics PAC Man

 

And one or two others. 
 

call me mad…. Go on :)

Slightly braggadocios post here but a few years back I dedicated my spare time to getting every single Zelda game, boxed and complete. They are all in protective boxes and stashed in a plastic container in the loft. I'll get them down and take pics at some point. Clearly the original Zelda was the trickiest/most expensive.

Prices for these have gone a bit nuts. I know someone mentioned retrosix but frankly those guys are ripoff merchants so I won't use their prices as a guide. Looking on eBay and knocking a chunk off coz rllmuk...GBC £100 delivered? It's got colour palette and brightness adjustment. Touch top left for pallet, top right for brightness. Smoky black shell. Does have a few specs of dust under the lens from storage but I can clear that.

It was me...  I mentioned them.

I paid £240 for a maxed out GBA, and I have a £110 eBay special on its way too. 

The idea is to review the two of them, compare them to each other and to see if the price tag really is worth it.

I like that idea. Retrosix guys, if you delve into the detail, have a lot of bad feedback. Their attention to detail is lacking from what I've experienced and what I've read. I ordered parts from them a few times. Once they sent me the wrong part THREE TIMES! It was only some silicone start/select buttons. Once ok, twice...hmmm..guess it happens, three times ok something not quite right there!

I’ve just had a look at their prices and they certainly add a premium. Also they have opened a retail store about 5 mins away from me, might take a look one day.

Yeah a real premium. They aren't massively respected in the cliquey modders world either. They kind of came out of nowhere claiming to be modding god's but honestly, I know loads of guys who produce a much higher standard for less.

Guys I’ve just spent £40 on a copy of Pokémon Crystal to go with my new Gameboy Colour, I remember they have battery’s in but can’t remember if they were for saves or just the day and night cycles? Are they still playable and saveable if the battery’s are fucked?

 

Also @Das is the battery something you can replace?

i've been getting some gameboy games from ebay, have some questions if anyone's got any ideas, some of them don't save so i guess i'll try changing the battery, found some here:

but was wondering if anyone knows a good seller for them? or somewhere else to get them as i think generally buying batteries from ebay is a bit of a lottery.

 

some games, well mr driller, don't save but also don't have a battery - anything i can do to try and get that to save?

 

also got a broken one, tried cleaning the contacts, then taking the whole thing to bits and cleaning it, still doesn't work, garbled nintendo logo usually, once it loaded then crashed after selecting a song (it's beatmania 3) so don't know if there's anything i can do to try and fix it?

This should help :) ( shameless self promotion ;) ) as for battieries, they come in 2 sizes, eBay is fine for them, so I've found, but I do tend to buy in bulk 😛

Yeah, the only thing you need to be careful of is the battery polarity. Otherwise it's simple

The S-RAM chip could be shot , or just the pins on that have knackered.

Also, soe of teh GBA games have little resistors on them, if they go they refuse to save, I've got a few here that refuse to save, not figured them out yet :(

yeah i'll get batteries with tabs, that seems like a good plan.

 

i should have said this mr driller is the gameboy color one, pretty sure it's legit (although i don't know for sure, if its fake it's very good and i'm not sure anyone is putting that much effort into making fake mr driller carts!), it looks to be in really good condition, all the pins look good, it's the uk/euro one, in a clear cart so you can see that the Japanese ones have a battery on a bigger pcb, maybe they took it out because the save feature isn't too important, it just saves high scores i think so not too bothered if i can't fix it, was just interested. cheers!
