Transfer window madness

Of course not but letting him go was a mistake. I'd much rather have had him helping out what we currently have than signing such a notorious player and offloading our best for pittance. Not that I'm affected by what's spent, but so much went out on Di Maria and they want a lot for Ramos, yet won't match what even Buffon was signed for?

Ipswich signed Tyrone Mings for £10,000 three years ago.

From Bournemouth we get

£8 million, majority up front

Brett Pitman on a three-year deal

Ryan Fraser on a season-long loan

Up to £2 million in bonus payments based on appearances and international call-ups for Mings

Percentage sell-on clause

Good deal!

Will McCarthy get to spend any of that money?

He's previously said he wasn't interested in Barca yet and will be honouring his contract. Maybe the lure of Liverpool would be too great to refuse once Rogers runs out of chances, but I don't think that'd be the case. You never know though :)

Clyne is giving up on his dream of Champions League football then. I always try (and fail) to not let football affect my mood but loosing two quality players in a week is gutting, especially when one is to a team who aren't even a real top four contender.

Please Brenda, stop now, we've had enough :(

MD Ian Milne saying "substantial" funds will be re-invested in the team.

That's good news. From an outsiders perspective he's done wonders with Ipswich for a pittance so I'm interested to see what happens when he can actually invest in the squad. Not that £8m goes very far in the Championship these days.

It's the way we need to be to exist where we are. We buy low/young and improve them until they're signed by a bigger fish with lots of money. We then invest and repeat. I'd personally like to thank Liverpool for paying such much and allowing us to buy more players and invest into a state of the art training ground.

Just a shame that those great players just so happened to turn into squad make-weights as soon as they left. I expect Clyne will be happy to get his RB slot in England confirmed as he moves though.

With respect, I'm not sure too many people would call any those we've bought from you as great players - good, yes, but not top-tier (Clyne has potential though).

Two of the three were regular England players and went to the world cup. Whatever your thoughts on the England setup, that puts them in a pretty exclusive bracket.

Regardless of the label placed on them, they dipped alarmingly post-Saints. Plenty of time for Lallana and Lovren to recover though.

If it follows last season's pattern I'm sure your replacement RB will have a much better season than Clyne does. You replaced Lambert, Lallana, Lovren (+ Shaw and Cork) with Pelle, Tadic, Alderweireld, Bertrand and Mane who all had better seasons than those that left.

Possibly. But that doesn't really mean anything to a fan does it. I'd rather we keep a settled squad of players for a couple of seasons.

oh yeah course, i wasn't being serious or having a go, I was just playing on words/being a dick
