Good session today. I was struggling with PS and read that he was easy to parry. I hadn't learnt to parry all game but equipped one of the parrying shields and practiced on him. Got him on the 3rd attempt :)

Did A relatively easily after that and then YtG once I worked out how to do it.

Seems like a relatively easy boss run...just reached DotBV and I reckon it's doable also.

On the last boss. Better mop up the bits I've missed.

I too am at the last boss.

I've missed a slab or two and didn't find the secret secret area, plus missed a covenant and screwed up pretty much every quest line but I'm happy with the secrets that I did find.

@Davros sock drawer I finally got round to buying an estoc yesterday. It's a brute of a weapon and makes mincemeat of regular enemies that require a little bit of work with the +10 longsword. I like the way it just hits, hits, and hits with most enemies being unable to get a reply in until my stamina is out.

I used my spare slab and banged it straight up to +10 (refined) and now wish I'd used it earlier...

Yep, it's a stagger machine alright. Got mine to plus 10 too.

AP area is just brilliant. Still can't figure out the ultimate aim of the place though...

I've used the gesture in a couple of places and been given rewards, but there's that warning about ringing the bell which suggests I have more to achieve here...

Spoiler

You should be worried about ringing the bell but it won't lock you out of anything that you might have missed, certainly didn't for me.

But ringing the bell was still a big mistake.

After reading this thread I've bought the Estoc. Seems to have a great move set, and completely different to my uchi. I feel disloyal on the uchi though so I'm going to stick with that for now and have the Estoc as a back up.

My my build will be:

shield + uchi

bow + Estoc

More Estoc love here. Happened to start with it as I picked the assassin class, every other sword I've tried is so slow in comparison. You can fuck up low poise enemies before they finish their wind-up.

Made it raw early on when scaling would be low but now I have 22 dex I've switched to sharp.

The strong attack slash isn't the best but the forward + R1 "kick" replacement move makes up for it with a bit of fencing type prancing.

I actually just switched from the estoc. I got a load of titanite and decided to try out all the dex weapons, to see what felt nice.

Because I'm played a rolly stabby twat the best thing actually turned out to be the bandit knife. Stick magic weapon on it and it doesn't matter if you're Mike Tyson, because if I get the first slash in you're going down. The evasion weapon art is just too good at setting up back stabs.

yea apparently 'poise' is switched off at present.

I've been having a largely abysmal time invading.  The rare occasion I don't get disconnected or greeted with the 'critical battle entered' message I spend my time watching the host and his phantoms run in circles around a bonfire.  Meanwhile on my end I've not been invaded once all game :(

The only nice thing that happened was someone had dropped a set of armour on the floor for his host which I duly snaffled for myself.

I'm level 35 and just done the Abyss Watchers.  Is that massively over?  I've only really levelled to access weapons and spells so far.

Had a good laugh tonight at what can only be described as a fight club outside of the area you fight PS. Joined the covenant there and promptly got summoned as a blue phantom into another world where I was greeted by a trespasser, another dark spirit and a mad phantom. We all dropped down to the circular area and then two of them went at it for a few minutes until one of them died. Then they summoned someone else whilst I had my fight, then the winner of the first fight.......well, you get the idea. Top fun and weirdly very well organised. Some of the weapons and sorceries they were using just shows how little of this game I will actually see in one single playthrough.

Then made my way to ID. Another fantastically creepy and brutally tough area. I'm getting lost so easily everywhere. So many gates to unlock and ledges to fall off and ladders back round to lifts that take you back to a bonfire. It's dizzying and fucking brilliant.

I had to call it a night but I have to remember all the stuff I found and what I need to do tomorrow. I found my friend in a cell that I have no idea how to get to even though I think I have the key.

Need to sleep now.

Can someone explain how armour works? I'm sure heavy is absolutely no better than light, seems like player poise is non existent?

Not sure if this will answer your questions, but seen it recommended..

Got to GA last night, awesome area, and one that's definitely worth an abbreviation! ;)

Had great adventures all told.  Nearly did the LC boss first solo try (had prepped by helping others) and was so aggrieved I summoned help and smashed him next go.

Re an item you get in  the Untended Graves area..

Spoiler

Eyes of a firekeeper

Spoiler

So I gave these to the firekeeper, despite my gut telling me not to.  I'm glad I rejected her offer of showing me a world without flame..  A quick Google (as to avoid big spoilers) suggests that's how you get one of the endings? Flipping heck I'd have been seething if I'd screwed myself out of the last few areas!

The story stuff is good, I think they've taken a page out of Bloodborne's book in terms of giving the lazier players (lore hunting wise) enough story through incidental items / events that you get intrigued and want to find out more!

Yeah my main is a +4 Dark Sword (Just finished CotD and heading into CoC). I've bought a ton of shards to try out loads of weapons. I've currently got a +3 fire Claymore, +3 Astora Greatsword, +3 Exile Greatsword and a +2 Butcher Knife.

In terms of secret areas, is there anything I need to be aware of so that I don't miss it, or can I just mop them up at the end if I don't find them on the way?

Got my refined dark sword to +8. It's an absolute beast. Fast attacks, can increase poise with the weapon art and it's buffable.  Awesome. Back up is the Executioner's Greatsword, and a BKGS but the Dark Sword is simply ridiculous.

I've been using a heavy Dark Sword (and a butchers knife in coop for the health regen) and it's ridiculously good, just smashes everything and stomp is superb  vs invaders pvp

Chatting to a mate last night it turns out I've missed a couple of early covenants, one being the sunbro's and one that's only accessible before you kill an early boss.

I came across the latter by accident through watching a Vaati video which was supposedly about early game secrets but actually spoiled loads of stuff from quite late game, IMO.

It's one of those things I never would have found in a million years, but am looking forward to trying on my 2nd play through.

And yeah, I'm loving this so much it might be the first Souls game I feel compelled to start again when I've finished.
