E3 2015 will almost certainly be the last hurrah for Nintendo's embattled Wii U console. With the early announcement of their next console at an investor meeting just six months ago, and with the eye wateringly good Legend Of Zelda game looking increasingly like a cross gen title, this coming E3 will likely be the last where the Wii U gets the home console spotlight to itself.

So how are Nintendo planning to send their tablet bundled wonder off? Well after last year's near universally praised approach to E3, which featured an extended Nintendo direct and a strong show floor presence to demo many of the games they had just announced, the big N are attempting to one up themselves this year, by combing their previous approach with a Sports Championship revival. The event which was revealed with a classically zany video, will presumably invite gamers to compete against each other and a few Nintendo staff, in a series of Nintendo themed tournaments. Expect Smash Brothers to play a big role.

There's no reason it shouldn't be a lot of fun, and providing it's not being set up in lieu of any substantial game announcements, I think it will further distinguish the publisher from the sea of suits and press releases which so typify media events of this scale.

Having been clear that we won't be seeing anything from what is arguably their most anticipated title, Legend Of Zelda, all eyes will be on Star Fox U, a title we were afforded a mere glimpse of during last year's E3. Not much is known about the much anticipated sequel, other than it will be playable at this year"s E3 and that online multiplayer is a distinct possibility.

Along with Star Fox, time will almost certainly be given to promising build 'em up, Mario Maker. Thus far everything shown of this innovative piece of software has demonstrated an incredible faithfulness to Mario's numerous 2D adventures, and the ability to switch between his various eras show that Nintendo know exactly what fans are hoping for from this release.

Adding a more controversial flavour to the Wii U's lineup, comes Project Treasure from Namco Bandai. This free to play action game allows up to four people to play cooperatively, with the mutual aim of gathering as much treasure as possible whilst fending off various attackers. Anyone who keeps their Wii U online will be able to download and play the game from the eShop upon its release.

Staying with the eShop, Art Academy: Home Studio brings Nintendo's popular drawing series to the home console, and already it's looking to be the best release yet. Taking advantage of the Wii U's extra grunt and tablet controller, the game provides a range of paints, brushes and tutorials to give budding artists a taste of creating digital art.

It's also likely that we will hear more about the E3 curios they revealed last year, Project Guard and Project Giant Robot. The former's concept is built around the control of numerous security cameras, tasking you to find and zap aliens which are attempting a home invasion. It will be curious to see how Miyamoto and team have developed the concept, and if they have been able to weave their classic Nintendo magic on what is ostensibly a rather mundane mechanic. The latter is a little more self explanatory, but even less is known about how it will play.

The imminent and adorable Yoshi: Wooly World will almost certainly be given one last chance to shine under the pre-release light, whilst DLC for Mario Kart, Smash Brothers and Splatoon are all pretty much certain to be announced in one form or another.

One of last years biggest surprises, was that Nintendo had picked up the rights to Valhalla Game Studios', Devil's Third. Studio head, Tomonobu Itagaki, has been making big promises on his Facebook page, assuring fans that the current build leaves what we saw at last year's E3 in the dust. Personally I was already sold on the combat mechanics and I really liked how smoothly you could transition between brawling, slicing and shooting. The multiplayer also looks like a lot of fun, and again, if you believe Itagaki's hype, then this is one massive game, packed with a sizable single player campaign and a huge multiplayer component, with many different and groundbreaking game modes.

To round out the Wii U's increasingly robust slate, we may also hear more about two of the console's more Japan centric releases, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Less likely would be the announcement of Pokemon Z, but given the younger appeal of the Pokemon games, it would be the ideal franchise to shepherd the Wii U into its twilight years.

Of course Nintendo doesn't just have the Wii U to talk about, there's also it's evergreen handheld, the 3DS and it's recent off shoot, n3DS. However, with western publishers all but abandoning the platform, it's left to Nintendo and other Japanese studios to bring the goods. Thankfully Nintendo are doing just that, and leading off a cracking line up of 3DS games, we have Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash (with limited edition Amiibo). Designed as a side scrolling platformer, this looks to be something of a re-imagining for their robotic mascot. The game will center around classic 2d platforming design and Chibi-Robos plug, which you'll be able to both swing from and attack enemies with, no feather duster in sight.

In keeping with reviving classic franchises, the 3DS is also due to get a sequel to Dr. Mario, in the form of Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure, an updated take on the classic Gameboy game. Rounding things out, it seems likely that Nintendo will be bringing a new entry into their Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series and Bravely Second will almost certainly be given a spot on a sizzle reel at the very least.

Nintendo have made it very clear that they won't be talking about nXE at this E3, (although you can bet that won't stop every journalist from asking about it) but what of their Quality of Life initiative, does that have any place at E3 this year? The time also feels right for a fresh look at the Metroid and F-Zero franchises, but do they have the right platforms with which to reintroduce these franchises to the world?

Nintendo have long been the underdog when it comes to grading the various conferences, but since they branched out last year, they've gained a lot of support for shaking up expectations and with a few good reveals, Nintendo could once again leave E3 heralded as champions in their own right.

You're putting a lot of work into these. Kudos. :)

Star Fox aside, really interested in Devil's Third. As rough as it looked last year, it also looked fun. Itagaki knows how to make a great combat system, he arguably made the best one in all of gaming, so I can't wait to see what a difference a year makes.

For me, this is the big one. Nintendo have set high bars and as a presentation they have been the best the last two years. When the dust settles they probably won't have the strongest stall but for hype, they're excellent and I can't wait.

I voted for a Pokemon reveal, something of the MMO variety. That could potentially drop another 15 million consoles into homes meaning that we have more of a chance to see multiples of any of the other hopefuls later on.

I'm also hoping for more Splatoon content to unlock during/right after the Direct, mainly new maps such as Bluefin Depot, Camp Triggerfish, and Kelp Dome.

After Mario Kart and just how wonderful and smooth it runs, I just can't continue living in a world without a current gen F-Zero game, so I really hope we'll see that. In my mind it'd be the most stunning thing to witness.

It'll either be my wet dream (Star Fox, Metroid, Advance/Battalion Wars, F-Zero), or my worst nightmare (Animal Crossing, Punch Out, Kirby, Mario Party).

I soooo want another Retro Metroid title. It's just such an obvious fit with the gamepad for scanning (they could crib the Splatoon control setup).

I want to see an MMO Animal Crossing, where you an go play various different sports with your friends, take on different jobs in the world to earn cashola and sit down and play local(?!) multiplayer on VC games with people or go to arcades. (Local as in the other person needs to be beside you in the world but it's obviously online. With splitscreen and all.)

Also kind of looking forward to seeing more of Devil's Third. It has gradually become more and more interesting with each new trailer they released.

For me, a new Metroid Prime game for Wii U would be as big of a megaton as a HL3 announcement.

Damn, completely forgot about the Giant Robot project. That might be something. Though that prototype looks rather dull - probably why I forgot about it in the first place.

Would love to see some GameCube classics ported over to the n3DS. Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario, Chibi Robo and FZero GX would all be welcome.

That's moonstick stuff dude. Alas.

Yeah, just Animal Crossing left that springs to mind. Chances of a proper Wario Ware having already gone out the window with Game & Wario.
