Football thread 2015/16 season.

Whatever the competition, the idea of top flight academies playing lower league sides in competitive fixtures is horrendous. Beneficial to the big clubs possibly, but I'm struggling to see what lower league teams would get out of it. It also has me worried about what the next step will be. If football league chairmen are prepared to vote for this, then how far are they away from agreeing to Premier League B teams in the football league?

The JPT has always been a bit shit, but it can become something very special for teams that get to the final. Watching Wrexham beat Southend United down at the Millennium certainly was. Now they're turning the competition into something l'll actively hate. At least we won't be in it.

While were on the subject of amazing goals, and because some people might have missed it, this was the goal of season from the Vanarama National League.

That was fantastic.

And the opposing fans applauded it too. I've done that before when we played Barnsley - my Dad didn't speak to me for about an hour afterwards

I did it once when Arsenal scored this goal against us at Villa Park.

Quite a few people did actually, it was one of those moments when you realised you were watching an absolutely brilliant team playing at 100% and there was no way you could live with them.  They basically declared after that (it was 3-0 after 25 minutes, we "won" the second half 1-0) but I've never seen a team play so well in the stadium before or since.

I've clapped decent goals against us in recent years. And Wrexham fans always clap the away supporters when the crowd is announced these days too. Is this a modern football thing? I don't remember ever doing that 10 or 20 years ago.
