Finally bought Splatoon 2!!!

Yay, great game - don't let the super-accurate rollers and snipers put you off!

And yes, you can compete with the starting weapons even on the highest ranked play...

@Mr Do 71everyone raved about the first one as well, though, and while I enjoyed it briefly it didn't have that much staying power. The campaign was pretty dull as well, although I hear this one's better.

Multi-player is essentially the same; balance is slightly better (some of the original's weapons were OP; I used to use homing torpedoes to take out enemies half the arena away on Arowana Mall) with a larger range of weapon types and so, tactics; arenas are generally more open and fluid.

So no, it might not be for you.

How far did you take the original - did you get as far as Ranked play (Tower Control, Splat Zones, Rainmaker)? The new game also has Clam Blitz in the rotation which I think is the best of the bunch. If you didn't stick it out that far, then you didn't see the best of it.

I don't think I got as far as ranked play, no. I think I'll just wait for the physical copy to drop in price. Too much to play as it is. Thanks for the info though.

I'm not wrong. I do hate everything about Splatoon...

But you're wrong to hate it. It's fabulous. Glorious. Stupendous. Fan-dabby-dozy.

Fix yourself man. Be the rainmaker. Blitz the [ahem] clam.

The only thing about Splatoon 2 that infuriates me is the unskippable spiel from Pearl and Marina at the start of every session.

This is true. That needs to be nuked from orbit. It is the wrinkle on the bum of an otherwise beautiful frame.

Ah. I mean, it still might not be up your street, but these are completely different beasts. Splat Zones is zone defence - keep and hold an area for a set time. Rainmaker is kinda capture the flag, only the flag becomes your weapon; and it's a mortar; and it's bloody heavy and stops you super-jumping. Tower Control is a cross between zone defence and capture the flag - the tower is the zone, but you need to occupy it while it makes it's own way to the target. And Clam Blitz is Speedball meets Splatoon, with added resource gathering for maximum score. Oh, and the ball paints a massive "I AM HERE" target on you when you get it...

All of them force you into conflict with the opposition, which you can kinda avoid in the base game. Splat Zones and Tower Control are the most straightforward. Rainmaker and Clam Blitz are tactically much richer, requiring you to switch between defence and offence, plan attacks, defend, take out defenders, ink routes to the target, etc., etc...

Can you recommend a new game?

I've got Hollow Knight, Darkest Dungeon and Salt and Sanctuary, Yoku's Island Express, The Escapists 2, Steamwprld Heist, Owlboy etc

What should I buy next Dead Cells or Into the Breach.

I can appreciate that they are two totally different types of games but I have around £15 to spend.

Many thanks in advance.

Of the two, I prefer Into The Breach. Dead Cells is good, but I prefer strategy. Also, Dead Cells is similar to a bunch of games you've already got. Go for something different. :)

Check out the Into The Breach thread to see whether you like the sound of it.

Disclaimer time. I’ve not played it nor the two that you mentioned (but I do want them all!).

Just a note of caution when buying using other region’s eShop - my bank (Santander) charged me a £1.25 non-sterling transaction fee the one time I did this. A quick Google suggests this is a flat rate, although the rules are a bit more complicated.

Your mileage may vary but obviously with the above example the initial saving would have to be bigger than the transaction fee to make it worthwhile.

Edit - writing all that out has encouraged me to link my Monzo card to my Nintendo account, since they don’t charge fees. The advice still stands though.

So did anyone (with bigger balls than me) plug their Switch recently into a third party dock, such as the Melopow one which i have? I haven't used mine, coincidentally, since there was the talk of the Nyko ones bricking machines.

I guess I've missed a lot of info but if I want to buy games from other regions...

...how is that done?

Thanks

Just set up an account for each region you want to buy from. Easy.

You can either use Monzo or you can get a Revolut card that allows you to make online purchases in any currency fee-free.

I use Revolut when I buy from other regions.

You don't even need to do this, you can just switch region on your main account (although you lose any unspent funds for a particular region if you top up, rather than pay per game).

I know. That’s why it’s easier to have an account per region.

So, the messenger is incredible then.

I've played about an hour of it so far and the quality is undeniable. I've just completed Hollow Knight though and don't want to run the risk of tiring of Metroidvanias, so I'm playing Cosmic Star Heroine and Into The Breach before getting stuck into it.
