Not knowing the purpose of that inexplicable notch on the back of it will haunt me like the latches on the back of the Wii Classic Controller.

It does the same thing as the one on the back of the current Switch, I expect.

I’m getting one. Hopefully the grey is the same as my grey joycons, wouldn’t want a different shade of boring.

Have they said how much yet? I’m guessing £200?

US$200, and in Europe retailers will, as always, set their own price.

A Nintendo Switch without a TV output mode? That's like Apple offering a MacBook that can't connect to the Internet. <_< The idea of a reduced size and cost Switch is laudable, but without TV connectivity, that's just a ridiculous design decision. I can't see this smaller model having much of a viable commercial lifespan.

It’s a 2DS successor and that’s a pretty big niche.

We are already a two Switch household (mine and my eldest) and the youngest is desperate for his own Switch for his birthday. He would 99% of the time be using it handheld anyway and for the occasions where they want to play on the Tv they’d just use one of the main switch’s.

A slightly smaller and more robust handheld switch is ideal for a younger kid. Alex is going to be seven and the battering his 2DS has taken over the past few years I was worried that the switch was going to be a bit fragile.

The only issue I have is his birthday is the 6th and it’s not out until the 20th. After showing him the pictures we have had tears that he won’t be able to have it on his birthday...but he wants the lite more than a ‘big’ switch now...

Another advantage (for us, with a 6 year old) is that it can go in a big rubber grip without worry of it affecting docking.

Yeah we got round that one by just not docking my eldest’s switch very often and just charging from the plug. To be fair the grips come on and off pretty easy so it’s not a big deal either way (and actually the grip I have on mine docks)

What were you expecting of a new model? Or anyone else, for that matter? Or is this just general "I don't like that thing which others may like"?

And it was never going to be significantly smaller, because every game's UI needs to be functional handheld and on a TV.

Still being able to hook it up to a tv. A lower price.

Ah right, standard Switch with revised internals allowing a price drop.

It's weird that the non-dock bundle isn't available outside of Japan.

But if it has to be compared to their home console, it really isn't a 2DS successor anymore I think.

I mean, they're merging the two previously distinct things, aren't they? Won't please everyone, but I'm on board. I had the original DS, but not much on it. I'm well up for them unifying development going forward, which they appear to be doing (the likes of Phoenix Wright etc. appearing on the Switch is a good sign).

I wasn't super bought in to the Nintendo system though, so YMMV.

I read a while back that something like 70% of Japanese Switch owners never used the dock. So makes sense to sell them one without it. As the chart I posted a few pages back shows, the percentages in the rest of the world show a somewhat different picture.

The point is quite obviously the most obvious fucking thing in the world.

IT'S CHEAPER THAN THE FULL FAT SWITCH.

Yet not cheap enough imo. But that's because the Switch is a huge success; Nintendo are a company; people will buy it regardless. See also: the ridiculous price of a seperate dock.

Ideally it would've had connectability and a £150 SRP.

It's basically lost its key "switch" feature.

This thing is going to shift like shit off a shovel.

Remember everyone going 'hahahaha the fuckin TWO DS hahahaha' which basically walked back the fundamental concept of the 3DS and looked ridiculous and then every kid on Earth had one within like a month?

Will be the same except the games are a shit load better.

I don’t use the current switch as a handheld, like literally never.

But whilst this new Lite version isn’t for me. I heard some mad claims that on lower spec games the battery can last between 6 and 7 hours. Which is good I guess!

also... it’s just Nintendo that say no TV functionality.  3rd party people may find a way ;)
