Replaying Super Mario Kart and getting stuck into some time trials with pals has reminded me of how thoroughly disappointing Mario Kart 64 was.

Time trial super mario kart is godly, especially Ghost valley 1 and mario circuit 1. Both epic tracks.

They’re ports of 2009 mobile ports of the SFC ports. Apparently they’re pretty badly compromised as a result. Some info here:

That's even worse than expected! I don't get why Square keep cheapening out on their ports.

Hard pass :(

A very quick cost analysis of two factors

1) How much it will cost in lost sales by people not buying a substandard port

2) how much it costs to port it properly.

I’d bet the first is cheaper.

On the latest firmware there’s a button combo that opens the zl+zr menu, select+start I think.

Edit - Yeah, start + select on firmware 4.

Sweet, thanks. I had to update it to the latest firmware to hook up with the switch already. There’s also a shortcut for the home menu - down + select.

I like what I’m seeing (and reading) in this Star Ocean trailer.

Out in December because you needed another RPG this year.

Got to give it to codemaster they really put a lot of effort into the swiutch version of Grid. Three differant mdoes for perfomance. An optional high res texture pack which doesn't impact performance. Support for the gamecube controllers and their analogue triggers. Includes all DLC as well. 1080p docked 720p handheld.

Finished Super Metroid tonight! 2 hours 18 minutes but only 84% collection rate. It's amazing how much of it I still remembered so clearly.

Still in my top five games of all time I reckon.

I got to the room with the silver pirates with 30 health... no amount of rewinds was helping me there.

The Dragon Quest collection looks to be an absolute mess of redrawn graphics in different resolutions. Hope there are some options otherwise this is looking like a disappointment.

Ewww, no thanks!

I also completed Super Metroid for the first time ever last night. Surprisingly 'easy' in the end, the most difficulty I had was with some of the jumping sections. Absolutely loved it.

Got Link's Awakening coming Friday, but will also complete LTTP and SMW for the first time ever in the near future.

Switch is GOAT.

I do love where it dumps you in the end. Did you get past the Pirates?

yeah - the first one in the room didn't do his jumpy attack for some reason... regardless of how often I tried to get behind him.  Then this morning they started doing flying kicks and then I realised I could get them when they turn yellow.  Battered Ridley on my second go by focussing on using the charge beam first instead of spamming my missles.

Then the fucker has stolen whatever was in the room!  TROLLED!  I was expecting some kind of suit to help me through the lava.  I had to check online to find out how to get out of Norfair.  I'd been at that bit with the hidden wall a few times.  TBH - I think that's a bit of a dick move by the designers there.  Working my way back to my ship and I grabbed the 'hilariously' named Spazer.  I'm now unstoppable.

I'm glad I went back to this... I knew it was a real game but life was too short for me to put up with some of the more frustrating parts.  I've got no shame in using rewind and save states given it's my third full attempt at it. :D

yeah - after typing that, I immediately changed my mind for the same reason.

You'd also be giving up Super Castlevania, Super Contra/Probotector & Secret of Mana.

Unless you were willing to buy the separate Switch Collections, of course.
