Nintendo kind of lost that this generation didn't they? A shift to basing their consoles on commodity mobile hardware would help them get back to selling inexpensive consoles at a big profit.

Makes me wonder if the whole mobile business is a chance for their teams to familiarise themselves with the hardware before the switch.

Edit - Re-reading the early posts a lot of people came incredibly close to guessing what “Nintendo NX” was without realising it, down to split/combined controllers.

Mine is here! I forgot how huge the pad was. Unfortunately the stick tips off to the side at its centre position, is that a common issue/something that will “break in”? The last time I sent something faulty back to Nintendo for replacement they kept me waiting for about 4 months for it to be restocked and came up with a copy that looked like it had been kicked around a warehouse for that entire time.

Mines arrived, feels great, generally impressed with it. The grey plastic might have a more matt texture to it than original controller but it’s not a big deal

I’l have to dig an original N64 controller out of my cupboard to compare.

My stick is dead centred

Sounds authentic to the original pad!

Mine has shipped, I can’t wait to give Mario 64 a try and then Waverace - neither ‘feel’ right on the pro controller!

Don’t suppose anyone knows from past experience whether these limited edition consoles hold their value? I’ve ordered one because I need something to play TOTK on but want to sell the console when I’m done and make most of my money back. It’s about £30-40 more than a bog standard OLED switch and I’m wondering if it’s worth it if no one cares come time to sell it.

eBay has a 20% off code and you can get a white or Neon OLED Switch for £271.99 using it. Top two links here: https://www.hotukdeals.com/search?q=switch oled

Cancelled that incredibly ugly special edition console and this should be showing up tomorrow. Am off on holiday about 10 days after TOTK launches so will be a perfect time to get a Switch.

I sold my launch Switch in lockdown, when the prices of consoles skyrocketed, for £280, which is probably about five grand in today's money, so I can't be too annoyed at having to shell out so much.

My controller is coming today but I won't be in annoyingly. Waverace and F-Zero are the 2 I am really looking forward to playing, as @Shimmyhill said, they didn't feel right on the pro. Oh, and Goldeneye, obviously. And Banjo.

Mine haven't shipped yet annoyingly, but can't wait to get in some F-Zero X on it. Also Sin & Punishment, even though you can sort of get it working on other pads, and it doesn't suffer from the increased sensitivity like F-Zero, it just feels all wrong.

I'm going to be buying an OLED for Zelda in May but think I need some games as I've not had a console since 2018. Been digging through some random lists online to find the best but have I missed anything obvious? Sure there's loads on the store I don't have. Played BOTW before:

Arms
Clubhouse games 51
Dragon Quest XI
Final vendetta
Hyrule Warriors Definitve 1st game
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (BOTW)
Links Awakening
Luigis mansion
Mario 3D World
Mario Maker 2
Metroid Dread
Metroid Prime
Super Mario 3D World and bowsers fury
The World Ends With You - Final Remix

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and DLC Torna: The Golden Country
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Ys Origin
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

Online store:
A Short Hike
Collection of Mana
Katana zero
Samurai Jack
Wargroove

Neon Chrome. I wouldn’t bother with Katana Zero personally.

Paper Mario and, if you don’t have it elsewhere, Hollow Knight.

I see you’ve correctly identified A Short Hike, sir has excellent taste.

Mario Odyssey is an absolute must as well.

Hello, sorry to bother you, I'm from the shmup thread next door.
The best game of 2022, Like Dreamer is now out on the switch, and it's very new player friendly. Give it a try if you fancy!

One of the characters has very large cartoon boobs, and I can only apologise for that. It's a Japanese indie game so you just have to let some shit slide. It's easy to ignore and you can even cover the background art with gadgets, so don't let it put you off!

Please to read that the Nintendo 64 controller works with Super Mario 64 on 3D Allstars.

Thats great to know!

Mine got delivered to a neighbour, so just fired up F-Zero X and it's a literal game changer. Just feels 100% better, the stick is so different. Really made up with this, will be hitting other games now after ignoring them for a while because the controls were not right with a pro pad.

Nintendo are idiots for not producing more of these.

This N64 controller is great, I’ll probably now attempt to play through a few of the online games

Even though I’ve got an N64 and an everdrive collecting dust under an old telly in another room
