Nintendo Switch

You know, I've been so ingrained with over a decade of Xbox/PS status quo that seeing a guy from Sega up on stage last night, mumbling about games they hope to do on a Nintendo console, was a bit weird.

Sonic does look good, though.

Just imagine Nintendo had gone third party. We'd have Zelda in 6 weeks and Mario at the end of the year, could play them in 4k and it would only set us back 80 quid and we would have working online. Why do they even bother.

I've become one of the "Nintendo must go third-party" crowd after this huge mess-up, to be honest.

I'm glad Nintendo still make hardware, this thing looks bonkers.

It may have a slightly (sic ) thin launch lineup, but no one else is making anything lke this, for better or worse.

That is truly an abysmal launch lineup.

They should've bit the bullet and made BotW Switch only... that's what makes this seem weaker than any other console launch.  Compare it to PS4 launch - now THAT was a bad launch.

That said, those 5 are the only confirmed ones for launch day.

We're about 6 weeks from launch. If they still haven't got games confirmed for launch it's just further evidence of how they're rushing this out well before it's ready.

  • 5 games for launch day
  • 3rd party devs had nothing to show on stage. Didn't even name their games, and it doesn't look like development has started. SMT has "only just" started development.
  • Maybe no online from day 1 in EU and Japan?
  • Console can't record video with its share button from day 1.

It doesn't look like this thing is anywhere near ready to launch.

@pelago That's a parody account.

That just seems incredibly spiteful towards any Wii U owner that's put up with very little software support for so long and who doesn't feel like upgrading Day 1 to this console which doesn't look like it's got much better 3rd party support at the moment.

Either you love Zelda that much or you're trolling:

Nintendo Switch current launch software:

Legend of Zelda BOTW
Super Bomberman R
Skylanders Imaginators
1.2 Switch
Just Dance 2017

The terrible PS4 launch software list:

    Angry Birds Star Wars
    Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
    Battlefield 4
    Call of Duty: Ghosts
    Contrast
    DC Universe Online
    Escape Plan
    FIFA 14
    Flower
Injustice: Gods Among Us - Ultimate Edition
    Just Dance 2014
    Killzone Shadow Fall
    Knack
    Lego Marvel Super Heroes
    Madden NFL 25
    NBA 2K14
    NBA Live 14
    Need for Speed Rivals
    Putty Squad
    Resogun
    Sound Shapes
    Super Motherload
    The Playroom
    Trine 2: Complete Story
    Warframe
    War Thunder

Clearly no contest in terms of content width or depth ;) Nintendo showing everyone else how to do it properly.

Except it's got Zelda, which looks to be the Halo, the Mario 64, the Knack for Christsakes, of the Switch launch. I know it's available on WiiU but the WiiU isn't portable and nobody bloody bought it. There's also no word on whether/what VC titles will be available for launch. I know that RubberJohnny, DeKay and sir shrew have been hoping this'll be fucking shit for months but it's got Zelda, which even if it is available on WiiU puts it miles above the abysmal PS4 launch, the Xbox One launch, hell even the WiiU launch!

I'm disappointed by today, as a lot of us are, but this is far from the disaster these threads would have you believe. The console still looks great, and even if it's not there for launch, the games are coming! Here's the European 3Ds launch line up, for example;

Asphalt 3D

AR Games (preloaded application)

Face Raiders (preloaded application)

Find Mii (preloaded application)

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Nintendogs + Cats (three versions)

Pilotwings Resort

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D

Puzzle Swap (preloaded application)

Rayman 3D

Ridge Racer 3D

Samurai Warriors: Chronicles

Super Monkey Ball 3D

Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

The Sims 3

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D

That's easily as bad as the Switch line up, just with slightly more shit titles and no zelda. That went on to sell pretty well and have a lot of really great games, once devs had a little time to make games for it.

Managing five games for the launch of your new console is a disaster. A total failure of both first and third party software support or of the decision to launch (without those games being ready).

One of those five games being a Zelda game doesn't change that.

Paid online is bollocks - especially when you have to buy several systems each generation to get hold of the exclusives. I'm so glad Valve have never tried to pull that shit with Steam (though that obviously doesn't make much sense when they don't preumably own the infrastructure).

The third party stuff is very very worrying. Forget all the usual 'Nintendo don't do third party' 'You only buy Nintendo for first party titles' bullshit. They've always in the past made sure that they've at least got some sembelence of third party support for the launch period or first year. This though has been blown out of the water with the Switch. Third party is a fucking desert.
