Great superbowl advert from nintendo. New Zelda footage!

They really are emphasing motion controls with these adverts, aren't they? The ARMS bits will look just like Wii Sports Boxing to many mainstream viewers. I worry that they will think been-there-done-that-10-years-ago, or whether they will think more positively.

its in the extended super bowl ad, but not the normal super bowl ad

I thought that looked pretty long for a Super Bowl ad.  30 seconds is 5 million USD apparently!

Somewhat off topic, but I'm tempted to watch the Super Bowl on NFL Gamepass this year which I presume will mean I get the ads too as you do with other live games, rather than the beeb with no ads at all - which I'd imagine to your average American is virtally unthinkable!

Seeing SFII show up during that Superbowl ad made me realise how perfect this thing is for fighting games.

Please give me Tekken 7, Nintendo! I want to take it to my friends' place (all two of them lololol) and relive the glory days of local multiplayer complete with hurling insults at eachother.

Not sure if you can watch it on the gamepass if your in the uk, Sky have the superbowl as well which normally means its a blackout and you can not watch it. but I would love to watch a American version with the ads if they let you.

I genuinely thought this was going to fail.

But after these recent ads, and seeing that latest god-like Zelda trailer, not to mention the WiiU being imminently unavailable at retail, I now think the Switch will be fucking massive for Nintendo.

You can this year.  All playoff games have been live and without blackout.

I watched one of the earlier (in UK time) playoff games live on Gamepass and it was complete with ads.  They display a "content not available in your area" during the half time show of play off game, which I assume meant that the 'Visa half time show' wasn't licenced to Game Pass, but it was ads ahoy, Nationwide insurance, Farmers, drugs, burger king whopper junior for 1.99...   I'm also pretty up on what is on US TV after the Super Bowl thanks to the ads.  24 Legacy of course is the big one this year ;)

You can also still pause it and forward it, though I'm not sure I'd risk that with the Bowl!

I think I'll set up my laptop plugged into my TV for a bit and fall back to the beep.

Some more details on Fast Racing RMX:

You were able to squeeze quite a lot out of the Wii U with Fast Racing Neo. How would you say Switch compares to that?

On Wii U it was tough to get to the visuals we wanted at 60fps. We had to use a lot of tricks to make it happen at all. For instance, on Wii U we were able to pull off two player split-screen racing at 720p and 60fps. Not bad at all, but with three or four players we had to scale down 30fps. Well, most racing games today don't even feature split-screen at all, so we didn't felt too bad about it. However, on the Switch we didn't had that limit. On Nintendo Switch in TV mode we now have four player split-screen, at 1080p and 60fps with much more details enabled. For worst case scenarios we enable dynamic resolution scaling to make sure the game keeps 60fps in unforeseen situations, tho that's usually not something you can spot.

Much has been made of the 3D Rumble that the Joy-Con offers. Is this something you're taking advantage of in Fast RMX and if so, what does it add to the game?

We recently added HD Rumble to the game and it made a big difference. For instance, when you get in contact with something you now feel where it happens and what happens. It's not a simple On/Off rumble but you get tactile feedback about the position, where your vehicle really touched something. It adds a lot to the immersion.

Is there any tech info out there about how the HD rumble works, what's inside the joy-cons etc.? Or are we waiting for a teardown?

The joycons have super great rumble. Programmed through code they can be HD (High Fidelity) not programmed as such they just basic rumble. But because the little robots inside are better the normal rumble feels better than normal rumble.

Coding is

GOTO 10: Do good rumble/yes

Interestingly looks like dev kit version have 64 gigs on board (you can see that on the built in number on the screen above). Not totally surprising as debugging etc can eat space, but does hint that if nintendo wants to in the future they could release an expanded storage version of the switch.

Did anyone ever think the limited on board space of the switch was anything other than Nintendo being typically cheap?

My guess would be that it's like the Taptic Engine in the new iPhones - a linear actuator rather than a little motor with an offset weight on it like every phone, pager and gamepad since forever.
