Why would it only have 30 minutes of charge left? Because you forgot to put it back in the dock the night before?

 You're on your way home.

I was just offering a counter scenario to the one proposed where everyone joins in and plays Fifa on the bus. It was intended to be a joke.

To be fair I wouldn't play it on any bus within the Burnley area. That would be asking for all kinds of trouble. The trains do seem to foster a more 'cultured' outlook, though - For instance I once spotted someone reading a book.

I went on a bus last week when visiting a friend in London. Haven't been on one in years. To be fair I didn't want to go on it but he insisted. Not much of a walker. Nice bloke but just lazy.

Did you know that you don't need to get a ticket any more, you can just tap your bank card against the reader?

Anyway it was also really busy and I had to stand so I doubt I would've got my switch out of my bag in that instance had this incident occurred post march 3rd.

Don't let your failure put you off. You learn more about yourself when things go badly wrong. We could all do with more jokes in this world. Now get back on that horse! *Slaps sir shrew playfully on the bum*

Oculus Rift dev kits were like 640 x 800 or something?

My thought though was that the Switch is pretty big.  If it stis close to your face, that'd mean the appearance is effectively worse no?

and if it sits further away, surely it'd be more strain in a weight kinda way, especially as you turn..

Not actually seen a rift / psvr etc. to be able to figure the difference screen sizes mind.

Ok, I did some back of my hand calculations...

According to the below image from reddit, the Switch is around 300g (minus joycon), DK1 Rift was 380g, PSVR is apparently 610g! Add some weight on for a holder.

xmg962n3hmcy.png

DK1 had 7" 1280x800 screen with 215dpi

Switch has 6.2" 1280x720 screen with 237dpi

PSVR has 5.7" 1920x1080 screen with 386 dpi

Imagine you're on a bus and it's pretty crowded but you're there for 45 minutes, so you get your Switch out and you're worried about the battery because it only has 30mins left, but it's enough to get you through most of the journey. The woman next to you is in her 40's and has bingo wings which are rubbing against your shoulders. She's taking up more than her fair share of the seat and it's been raining so her coat is wet and the windows are steamed. It's not the most comfortable but you carefully remove the Switch from it's bag and position it so it doesnt get wet.

You're playing Zelda and you're aware the woman is watching you but you glance up and she looks away with an air of disapproval. You're in the water temple and there is a timed puzzle that requires your full attention but you keep looking up at your surroundings every time the bus stops, out of habit even though you know the Switch will die before your stop.

You mistime a jump and have to restart the section and as you make your way back to the puzzle room you doubt you'll have the time to progress to the next save point. A guy behind you says "Hey look he's playing a Switch" to his pal, you turn around but he doesn't acknowledge you and there is no room to play a multiplayer game plus you only have 10 mins of battery left.

You notice the bus hasn't moved for a long time and that the driver is chatting to some drunk looking guy flailing his arms about, but the driver lets him past and the bus continues it's journey. At this point the woman next to you gets up and shuffles to the front of the bus and to your alarm the drunk guy comes to take the seat next to you. You resign yourself to defeat at the water temple and turn the console off and get ready to slide it into your bag, which you forgot to close and to your horror has spilled your Amiibo under the seat in front. "Ish that a Playstation?" the you feel the guys breathe on your ear and look up, "Is that Playstation?" He smells faintly of piss but he's blocked you in now.

"No, it's a Nintendo Switch"

"Ah what's that like?" The guy grins.

"Sorry mate it's out of battery"

The guy's face drops. He doesn't believe you.

"C'mon mate, give us a fucking look."

He holds his hand out and you panic as you realise you slid the Switch loose into the bag. You try to make out how far it is from your stop but you don't recognise where you are.

"You think you're fucking better than me mate?

Give it here."

You look around hoping someone will say something, but the entire bus is silent, someone is filming you on their phone. The bus has stopped and the driver is looking round, but he isn't saying anything.

Then you shit yourself and you're naked and the drunk guy turns out to be dizogg and the entire bus is pointing at you chanting "Switch wanker".

Picture the scene and you get your PS4 out on the bus plus 50" telly and generator...

Ahh drat, PS4 is pretty fucking underpowered when it comes to playing games on the bus - expensive too for a lump of useless plastic on the bus :(

What's stopping you using your Vita, tethering it to your phone, using your phone to start remote play to your PS4, coping with lag, fiddling about with control options because there's not enough buttons on the Vita and starting a g....

....Oh, wait. That's my bus stop.

So we now have various statements from prominent Nintendo executives leaving the door wide open to a true 3DS successor, but yet the 1 pillar meme just won't die, it's a certainly powerful alluring meme I'll grant you.

Quote

Edge: How about speeding up development processes? Does the Switch architecture mean you can unify your handheld and console software teams, enabling you to get games out more quickly?

Eiji Aonuma: There's an element of that, but it doesn't automatically mean things will happen more quickly or more easily. Plus, Nintendo 3DS still has plenty of titles in development. The concept of the Switch is that you have a home console that you can take with you on the go, and in that respect it is both home console and handheld, but it doesn't mean for us that the concept of a dedicated handheld will just disappear.

And the various statements from Tatsumi Kimishima, even in the official investor stuff.

People do realise they only ever merged the hardware design divisions into a single team? The iOS/Android development model is what you should have been expecting all along. There is a quote somewhere where somebody (probably Iwata) saying it was a lot of effort to port between home and portable and vice versa, going the iOS route solves that problem, it never meant they just unified the entire lot under one single bit of hardware.

Just reading on Gaf a quote from Nintendo about how they aren't ruling out a 3DS successor.

Then why force portability costs into the Switch, you fucking clowns!!!

Have to be honest, I'd rule out getting a Switch (if I hadn't held off already) if I knew for certain a 3DS successor was on its way. I'd prefer that, to be honest. Would be interesting if it was a smaller, clamshell Switch too, with full inter-compatibility.

I hope so, as I bought that one the other day. :P The only thing is, it's been since announced that the Switch requires an update to use microSDXC cards, but I'm hoping that will be a launch update.

Apparently a day one update.

Also I think Sir shrew might not be getting a switch for some reason...

Iwata

Apple has a common platform called iOS. Another example is Android. Though there are various models, Android does not face software shortages because there is one common way of programming on the Android platform that works with various models. The point is, Nintendo platforms should be like those two examples. Whether we will ultimately need just one device will be determined by what consumers demand in the future, and that is not something we know at the moment. However, we are hoping to change and correct the situation in which we develop games for different platforms individually and sometimes disappoint consumers with game shortages as we attempt to move from one platform to another, and we believe that we will be able to deliver tangible results in the future.

Why not just hang on till you actually need the storage?

I'm in this camp. The neurosis concerning SD cards, adapters, cases and screen protectors and whether or not we need to file our fingerprints off like John Doe in Se7en so we don't leave marks on the screen and whether or not we should maybe  wear sweat bands over our hands so we don't sweat into the joycons is just plain weird. Why do people want to get a massive SD card if there are no games? Also, they're readily available from just about everywhere (you can get them in Tesco).

I'm with you on the rest but cases are important, I plan to take this in work the day after I get it - well 5 days after as I have 4 off that accidentally fall on Switch launch!
