bloody hell I'd actually forgotten that til you mentioned it... We all remember covertapes but yes earlier still you got flexidiscs in computer magazines with programmes/games on them. Your Computer used to have them if I recall.

I have a vic20 at the time so I think I had to record the flexidisc to tape first... not sure I got it to work.

Never managed to get those to work; flexidiscs would drag under the stylus, and then on top you had crappy tape hiss (we were kids; all we had were crappy quality tapes from Dodgy Dave down the market).

Couple things..

I'm going to really miss the dpad on the gcon controller. Seriously, i can't play Mario Kart 8 using a stick and i certainly can't play Mario Maker with a stick either (whenever that is released).

I just hope they release a gcon asap with a proper input on it.

I'm with you on this. I need a dpad for Mario Kart. I prefer to use a Wii remote when playing MK on Wii U even though I own a Pro Controller.

Also, looking into 1..2..switch more. I still think it would have been best to pack in with the system BUT it's looking more and more like a rebranded Wario Ware which isn't exactly a bad thing. Back in 2006 or whenever with Wario Ware Wii.. fun times with friends. Maybe it could surprise us all.

The Pro Controller has a proper D-pad.

In a best case scenario you probably get a not too terrible browser (part of the Easter 2018 firmware update) and a creaky Youtube app (TBA 2019). The browser will not access any sites besides the Nintendo website between 6am and 11pm. I wouldn't expect anything more than that if NIntendo's track record is anything to go by.

Utter bollocks - the Wii U browser is really very good and offers you loads of different versions to use.

OK, I admit I never used the Wii U browser(s). Other browsers on older systems were terrible though. This doesn't just go for Nintendo btw, the browser on the Vita is atrocious too for example.

Stop being naughty - this thing is going to be the best thing ever! HYPE TRAIN

I'm pumped for the Switch - the hardware at least, the software has yet to convince me but I don't doubt that it will in due time. However, the last thing I'll be buying one for will be browsing and watching movies.

They're presumably talking about changing the user agent, which isn't the same thing as a different browser.

To be honest. I lost my crappy kindle tablet and I miss it. I dont feel like buying some other gadget thing just for bedtime. I don't see any problem with the Switch having a decent browser and netflix.

Actually the thing where the Switch totally excels is versatility. It is like a play-doh hardware. That is the weird but interesting link between the Switch and the PC.

While the other consoles are copying the PC in just architecture, the Switch is copying the PC in functionality.

If they just shoved the Nintendo games on top of the Pixel C hardware and software, I'd be very interested in buying one, but they don't seem to be doing this, which is a great shame.

A PC can do pretty much anything if you write the software to do it, a closed system device has been artificially hobbled from attaining its full potential, a bit like the original Xbox in that respect where hackers showed a glimpse of the future when they freed it from its creator's imposed limitations.

So the official Nintendo-endorsed English language translation of the investor Q&A is out, feel free to interpret the words based on whatever colour of tinted glasses you prefer to wear ;) I have to say their name checking of the Geforce brand and the power of the PC might work on investors without any knowledge of the sector, but a bit of a reach if you now anything about the reality gulf between desktop Geforce and mobile Geforce. But I suppose that would be no different if I was reading some Q&A from a Biotech or internet company where I am much less informed.

Nobody can write software to make a PC as fun as how a console feels. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Actually Mushimashi, after your disastrous and quite frankly idiotic (particularly for an 'expert') theory that Nintendo's intention is to build a 3DS successor, I'm going to have to ban you from this thread until after the Switch has launched.

You're still free to post in other threads.

True however it acts differently using different user agents and looks different too. The ipad user agent will play embedded video (on most websites) whereas the standard Wii U one won't. It's a bit hidden but saying it was a shit browser isn't fair as it isn't a shit browser. I'll happily see Nintendo criticised for some of the things they do badly but just throwing around accusations about when it isn't justified simply isn't on. It's not cricket.

I'm sure someone will bring out a D-pad that either clips on or sits on top of the buttons, a bit like those ones you could get for the PSP. Although it will be shit of course.

Honestly, Nintendo or a third party will probably release custom joycons.  One of which will probably have a real d-pad on it, for those who want it.

I'm kinda hoping someone releases slightly wider joycons, so that the analog sticks aren't directly above/below the buttons.  But that's just my preference.

Mario Kart should be playable with the pseudo dpad, no diagonals and rarely using up/down.

I guess that until that d-pad joycon is a reality we will have to get used to the analog stick.

My guess is that The Binding of Isaac is analog friendly. Correct me if I am wrong please.

Hey, Nintendo's portable browsers are fine...

DSLITEBROWSER.jpg

Right?

See, this is what annoys me most; I'm getting in a right arse in my hand, cheesed off mood here. That's not what the browser on the Wii U is like at all. I don't really care if there is a browser but it won't be like that.

Ha ha! Ford are bringing out a new car soon. Like this right?

AAAA1912-ford-model-t.jpg

It'll have apps like a browser, Youtube and Netflix etc. etc. but it'll have Zelda and Mario and Splatoon and Mario Kart. It has HD rumble that I am completely looking forward to experiencing first hand (oh ho ho). It looks smashing too; really slick. It probably will be the 3DS successor and it probably will sell millions and millions of units because that's what it should be. A super powered 3DS you can play on the TV. The Ds and 3DS were/are the greatest consoles ever made - not just the greatest handheld. If the Switch is the successor to those, I'm all for it.

If the 3DS is phased out and this offers more of the same, it will 100% succeed in Japan and it's sold over 200m units worldwide (that's all the DS variants put together). That's a massive userbase. The fact it's not just a home console you play on the TV. The 360 didn't sell 100m units worldwide. I can see my kids wanting a Switch at some point so I do think we'll own more than one Switch before this time next year. The only way this can fail is if it's really shite and it certainly doesn't look shite. Spaghetti Os:)
