Zero Time Dilemma: Zero Escape 3

Get hype. I didn't play all of 999 but VLR was one of the smartest visual novels I'd played in a while, and news on ZE3 had become so quiet that I wondered if it was even still a thing. Hopefully we get another new evil mastermind :P that's every bit as good as Zero Jr.

It'll be a bit harder to go in with no information to this due to the nature of what's revealed in VLR but I'll be staying clear of details until release to keep it all a delicious surprise.

All those answers to those questions left behind. Can't wait!

I have both 999 and Virtue's Last Reward but have played neither. I don't really know what kind of game they are, really. Some kind of visual novel/adventure/rpg? I dunno.

I bought them because I liked the names.

It's sort of like a hybrid of visual novel and the "room escape" subgenre of puzzle games. If you've ever played those old Flash games like Crimson Room, Viridian Room or Notpron, you'll know what kind of gameplay it is; you're in a locked room and interact with your surroundings to find clues and keys and switches that open up other bits in the room and eventually you solve more cryptic stuff and open more things and ultimately get out. When you're not doing the puzzle bits you're doing the visual novel bits; talking to folk, picking routes through a branching narrative and eventually reaching a conclusion.

Of the two games, the one I have more experience with is VLR, and I mostly enjoyed it; some of the puzzles seemed a bit trial-and-error-y but aside from that it was great. Might see if my ancient iPod Touch can run 999...

I've ordered 999 on the back of this news.

It's been on my to-play list for far too long. Will I love it?

People get put off because it's essentially a text adventure with puzzles thrown in. If that doesn't put you off, you will love the game.

If you start playing it, you may need a chart I linked here to help keep things going smoothly.

R button skips text you've read.

Please, please, please make posts if you feel the need to vent questions or thoughts while you're playing the game. Experiencing other people play the game and how it progresses is a delight to most of the people on the board.

Nope, that's on its way too though.

Fantastic, it's the best game to play vicariously, because it's as close as we can get to playing it for the first time ourselves. Right now you have to go on complete spoiler lockdown though. Other than that spoiler free 999 ending chart, which you'll probably know when you want to read, you must avoid everything and give us regular updates. Especially, especially, for VLR.

Also listed on Amazon.com was a Limited Edition package for both the Vita and 3DS version which will include a watch like the previous 2 games.

However, as of about 30 minutes ago, both are currently showing as "unavailable". :(
