English Franchise League Season 2015/16

Might as well be 3-1 as 2-1 I guess, I'd rather lose another going all-out for an equaliser (with a centre-back as our target man ) than just wave the white flag.

Wagner obviously isn't afraid of raising an eyebrow or two: due to our regular left-back being fairly awful thus far (even after dispensing with his topknot) he played a 20 year-old attacking midfielder with one Championship start to his name back there. Apparently he did alright as well!

Sounds like we had all the play against Boro today but again, if you've got no-one to finish it means nothing at all. We've really fucked ourselves not addressing our lack of striking options for the last god knows how long.

Vaughan likely won't have been fit enough to play this system but in the circumstances letting him go out on loan seems mental.

Yeah, apparently you didn't get out of your own half much! I guess the only trouble was that when you did you actually scored some goals.

Most are amazed at the difference the manager's made in just a couple of weeks, our forum's rarely as upbeat after a victory as it is after today's defeat. Sort out the goalscoring part and we'll be alright, might be tricky until January rolls around though.

At the risk of just clogging up the thread with my inane waffle - first 45 last night, great. Thought it was a really good game - only a couple of very good saves from their keeper kept it at 0-0, they'd had a lot of possession but nothing clear cut coming from it.

Second half - oh dear. I've seen Ipswich be shit quite a lot this season but this is the first time I've seen us just totally capitulate and self implode. The first goal was one of those you think is great if your team scores it but are annoyed about if you concede. So in that vein, it was more poor defending from us and frustrating given how well we'd played up until then. Following the goal, we just gave up and then Mick substituted Maitland-Niles (who had a terrific game) for Coke and I assume moved to a 4 3 3. It was dreadful - no one seemingly knew what the hell they were supposed to be doing. We did absolutely nothing but chase after the ball for the next 15 minutes.

Their second goal was abysmal play from us (although again, from Middlesbrough's perspective it was a quick break, clinical play etc). We finally seemed to work out what system we were supposed to be playing after that and another good save from their keeper stopped it being 1-2 and pushing a tight last 10 minutes.

Middlesbrough are solid, can see why they're pushing for automatic promotion, whilst being nothing spectacular. Thought they were better than Brighton (who also beat us at home) - that keeper must be worth 10 points or so on his own. Brought nearly 500 which is bloody impressive given it was a Friday night and the match was on Sky (I was moaning about going to the game and I only live a 40 minute walk from the stadium).

Our keeper is fantastic. I was really disappointed when Jason Steele was dropped and then moved on as I felt he was going to develop into a great keeper. But Konstantopolous really is that - 10 points a season, if not more.

Very pleased with the result last night - we've not won at Ipswich in something like 20 years, and after only playing on Tuesday against Everton I'd have taken a draw before kick off.

Finally got the win our play in the last few games has deserved. We even survived Whitehead going off. Twice as many attempts as the home team today, only two on target which again highlights the main issue but when both of them happen to go in it doesn't matter too much! Hopefully one for Wells will help him along until reinforcements arrive. Villa fan Joe Lolley loves playing at Birmingham too, he hasn't had many minutes for us but he's scored twice there now.

Ha, that's amazing. Apparently we're up there with the big boys because we spent £1.2m (aka half of Blackburn's annual installment for Jordan Rhodes) on a player two years ago. Our net spend in the summer must've been along the lines of -£9.5m! As far as I know we're one of the very few in the Championship actually sticking to FFP so his seems an odd comment to say the least. I think we were second lowest on the agent's fees list as well, below Birmingham. The needless dig that our Championships were only won in the 1920s seems a fairly daft thing to bring up too since I don't think Birmingham have ever won one, in any era.

Mind you it's probably a preferable brand of sour grapes to that on their message board yesterday which suggested they're fucked if they can't beat shithouse/awful/shite teams like Huddersfield. I know all teams have fans that can be like that relative to where they're at, but still.

Last night was great to get such a solid away result. I was surprised he took that Niles off as he was playing well and caused us a few problems.

Nugent was always gonna score wasn he.

Boro played well in that second half, Ipswich defenders switched off for the first goal and the second came from a poor throw.

Ashley Maitland-Niles is talented, but what we are doing is telling him "go out and play hard for an hour" instead of pacing himself for 90 minutes. He's been very good defensively in recent games though.

Sheffield Wed - Derby proved a bit of a damp squib thus afternoon.

Yeah, sorry. In terms of a result I think both teams would probably have taken it but that doesn't really make much difference I guess.

For Wednesday it means we're within fondling distance of the play-offs with our next match against the team directly above us, a win there and we're in the top 6. This is mildly concerning as I don't think we're anywhere near good enough to go up and we have a pretty great record in the play-offs*. I suspect we'll drop off the pace a bit towards February, but if we have a good Christmas it's going to be a hell of a lot of momentum.

*(Unlike the other half of Sheffield, hahahahaha).

Player of the month - Daryl Murphy

Manager of the month - Mick McCarthy

Tomorrow - Ipswich vs MK Dons live on Sky as part of their 10 in 10 (ten Football League games in ten days)

The combination of these factors means we're going to lose, doesn't it?

Awful showing from Boro today. First half an hour we were completely dominant and could have been 3-1 up at the break. Second half we lost control and it was very end to end, started to get more nervy towards the full time at nil-nil. Nugent though, absolutely uncalled for, his red card was petulant and the timing of it was abismal.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, how Adam Forshaw isn't getting in that team is beyond me. Clayton is the only consistent, outstanding midfielder at the club. Leadbitter blows hot and cold whilst the others struggle to make attacking mid their own.
