I completed the story at the weekend too, total of 120hrs on the clock. I've only completed about half of the quests and there are a few other bits and bobs I could revisit. Various googles suggested getting characters to L70 before facing into the final encounter and that seemed about right for me, especially for one of the spell unlocks that made things a good deal easier.

Going to play something else for a while but might well return to mop up the odds and ends. Also picked up a cheap DQIX for DS for sometime later.

I went in with LVL 57 - 59 and beat the final enemies in the game in one sweep. But everyone in the gang on Follow Orders, a lot of smart skill unlocks focused on MP generation and healing and also smart weapon selection for all members based on the enemy type and perceived elemental attacks. I did have a lot of downed allies throughout the fight but 4 of my main characters have healing and resurrection capabilities.

Could someone who’s finished this tell me roughly how much longer I’ve got to go please?

I’m at about 55 hours and I’ve

finished the main game, gone back in time, and got back to Havens Above where I’ve just been told by the Watchers to go and find the three seedlings.

Am I nearly done or merely halfway?

you just started act three of a three-act story

I completed the game last weekend. It was a blast for me. First 10-hours or so (basically the demo) are quite slow and I wasn't too convinced that this game was for me. Then for another 10-hours or so you are basically chasing leads and assembling your cast. But once that cast is complete this game really picks up the pace and especially Act 2 and Act 3 are on fire and an absolute joy to blast through.

This is good to hear. I played the first 5 hours or so on PS4, then picked it up on Switch and played the same 5 hours, then I restarted on hard mode because it was too easy and played the first 5 hours again. I found it all incredibly lovely but also quite uninspiring. I’d love to get into it again though - especially if it does pick up - because it is a gorgeous game.

Why do all these games take so long to get going?

Because they're trying to appeal to everyone, including people who have never played a game in the series before, or a JRPG before, so they introduce concepts one by one that long-time players are already familiar with.  It's a tough balancing act.

At one point I Quick Resumed the game on the Series X and it seemed to have counted all the hours it was suspended by Quick Resume. If you want to prevent this, you should always return to the main screen when you are doing playing, the game ask if you want to do that after you save.

It also does this on One X when the console is asleep. My save file says I've been playing for something ridiculous like 400 hours.

Yes, this is what I reported and suspect as well. I am also at 400 hours while I believe I put in 60-70 at most.

Also because in all of these games you need to assemble your cast/party which takes time. Not much different from Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. Only halfway the move they have assembled everyone and the story really kicks off from there.

It is all very LOTR, I love it.

You know what is great. For the hard bits it gives you an AI friend who heals you too. So you never get stuck on a but for long. Such a simple thing but helps prevent the need for any Uber grinds.

How far in am I? Iv had the ' large event ' and just recaptured a castle with our main man.

20 hours in now and I just had a very good night at the casino

Spoiler

In Puerto Valor go to the slot machine on the blue carpet and use the leftmost machine. Keep betting at 90 until you run out or in my case get silver spins and the tokens roll in

I’d been looking forward to this for a while, and having played through the first, what, six or so hours....

In the bin I think. It’s so painfully generic and bland. I’m struggling to wring out any fun from it at all. I’m genuinely gutted, I’d been really excited to play it. Is it a “oh the story really kicks in after ten hours” job? What am I missing?

This is how I felt about Yakuza - the first ten hours felt like a tutorial. I stuck with it, and glad that I did.

I’m in this thread considering whether to delve into DQ, FYI.

And finished. Playtime said 210  bit that's due to quick resume. Amazing game, one of the best I have ever played. I feel a bit sad it's all over now

Really finished? There are quite a few 'false' endings...

Spoiler

Calasmos beaten?

Got this for Christmas and just sunk a few hours in this morning, enjoying it so far but man.. is the music this bad throughout? I had to turn it and the effects down several notches as it was really grating.

On Definitive Edition? The music is fantastic! But I admit, loops a bit too often.

It changes as it goes on in different areas.

Full soundtrack is here. Skip through it. It's all of a similar style though so I expect you'd want to (cries internally) ..switch it off :(

I just finished this. 115 hours and I had to call it at some point. Epic story, epic characters, epic length. Amazing, but here’s to never playing another one

I just reached the opening credits - after five hours.

I don't know if it was a preorder or launch thing but there was dlc on the switch store to download some DQ8 music and costumes.

Did you work out the trick with him or did you google? I have to say, I totally missed it and looked it up in the end.

I had the worst of both worlds - I accidentally read the trick of how to defeat him when I was looking something else up - and then by the time I got there, I forgot to do it!

There's four good songs and a lot of the others are repeated way too often

I've been enjoying this lately, but I cannot get past how dire the 8-bit sections are, the encounter rate is staggeringly high and is such a bore. I'm only on my second one, I doubt I'll do any of the others.

How does Fleeing even work? I try to run from battles and even the ones I'm vastly overpowered for still trap me. It's tiresome.
