Pikmin 4. More smoothies for the smoothies God.

It'd sell a few new3DSs if it was exclusive to that. And there's never been a handheld Pikmin, which feels like an oversight.

Anyway, I find it hard to be excited by this. I dearly want to be excited but I've played Pikmin 3 for about an hour so I really have no excuse to be excited by another one. I'm a terrible person, basically. Will definitely buy it if it comes out on something I own though, naturally.

Even the DS had the odd RTS game, and the resolution on that was woeful. If they put it on Wii U, that would be unexpected, all things considered. The odd thing about this news is the fact they've been sitting on it since E3! If it was this close to completion, you'd think they would have mentioned it in their presentation at that time.

Why not put it on WiiU?

They didn't have the Pikmin amiibo ready yet

Surely to get a useful view of your surroundings and tactics etc, it would need to be almost too zoomed out to be useful on the 3DS? I'm sure they could make it work of course but for me, part of the charm of 3 was that it looked so amazingly crisp and 'real' which would be a bit lost on the 3DS at the lower res.

My only main concern (which I'm fairly sure will happen but hope it doesn't) is that it will have about half of the game as a 'tutorial' in the assumption that players have never played the game or anything like it - which is all well and good but then it limits the amount of challenging Pikmin-y goodness you get. I might even have to give 3 a go this evening...

Oh and if I'm going full moon-on-a-stick wish list, it would be great if there were more realistic settings, a bit like Eledees or Micro Machines with levels in a 'house' and stuff like that.

If you've played the multiplayer on the GameCube versions, then you can easily imagine a variant of that one working fine on even the 3DS, as the resolution is quite similar in splitscreen. Maybe it is a Wii U game, but if so, why not mention it at E3?, they've shown other game sequels way in advance of actual completion, but this one is a stealth project for some reason, weird.

Miyamoto has said before that they've had a prototype on both the DS and the 3DS and it was never good enough to explore to a full release.

Yeah I can imagine it, I just think it would lose a lot of the charm of the game.

Although I'm no longer surprised about Nintendo and E3, they for some reason don't seem to take it seriously. Has TGC happened already this year? I lose track but they often mention stuff around then... Perhaps they didn't want to mention it for fear of people being negative about lack of IPs or it potentially being a glorified add-on or other things that people might like to moan about :)

I for one am happy and will buy it at full whack because as it is a bit of a stealth release, I can't imagine (and hope) that they haven't drastically changed the formula or anything.

I don't think it was actually being called pikmin 4.

That's what they quote directly from Nintendo themselves, they don't provide an actual transcript of what was said at E3 however, so we could get some context to what was actually said in that meeting.

Nintendo then confirmed the news to Eurogamer in a separate statement:

"We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."

He cites the controller input as the problem, yet they managed to make it work more than fine on the GameCube... which didn't even have touch or a 2nd screen. So not a resolution problem still.

The Gamecube's analogue stick was much more precise than the 3DSs, and of course it had two analogues as standard.
