As a reminder, here were the constraints I set at the start of this season:

* Team selection cannot start until the end of season cup has completed - around 11pm on 17th December.

* Team selection must finish, and the final teams and player roster posted by 10pm on Monday 21st December.

* Teams cannot have more than 10 players.

* Names of the teams and managers will be provided to the by myself before the team selection process begins.

* No managers can be involved in running the team selection process.

The following proposed team selection process has been proposed by Jamin/Graham.

Proposed BAP Transfer System

This is a slightly tinkered / simplified version of the previously used G/S/B system, with the priority being:

- make the whole process more understandable

- ensure it will provide an even distribution of the best players

- transfer window excitement (including seeing some of the best players go to auction)

Tues evening of the week of the End of season cup:

- FA publishes player valuations, and

- FA publishes the median average figure for Gold / Silver / Bronze players (why will be explained under Stage 1)

Basics

Top 8 rated players = Gold

Player rated 9-16 = Silver

All the rest = Bronze

Each Stage is independent from each other

Stage 1: RETENTIONS

- Managers are given £60M to retain contracts of existing players

- G/S/B scale they must adhere to by the end of Stage 1 is 1G / 1S / 1B

- Must include their own contract in that

- Managers can choose not to take through their full quota. Where they do this, they are reimbursed by the FA to the tune of the median amount from that category of player.

(For example, if a manager chooses to go through with 1G / 0S / 1B, the median of all the silver players in the Player Valuation is the amount of £ they are awarded. We feel that median averages give a fairer reimbursement figure than mean average, as medians do not take into account of the large outliers - particularly evident at the top end of the Gold values)

N.B. - Any leftover money is carried over to Stage 2

- Players retained / up to date finances for the teams will be published by the FA on the forum, we suggest 11pm post-End of Season Cup.

Stage 2: TRANSFERS

- Managers are given £40M to buy/sell players, and to pay for their contracts

- Transfers to happen between Thursday 11pm and Sunday 4pm (assuming auction happens on Sunday evening)

- No G/S/B scale in Stage 2 to restrict managers on who they can/can't buy

- Deals can be straight swaps, multiple swaps, or just money deals.

- To confirm, Money changed hands between managers is the transfer fee only, the manager will still need to ensure they can afford the players contracts when they have finished their wheeling and dealing

- No limits to how many times a player can move during a window

- Each team has one tap, which costs £5M to use. Manager will still need to pay the players transfer fee of course. FA to be PM'd by the manager, and the player in question copied in. If all agree to the tap then it goes ahead.

- Manager to PM the FA with their player list, including the finances used (transfer fees, contract fees, taps etc).

- FA publish full "end of Stage 2" lists on forum

N.B. - A maximum of £10M of leftover money can be carried over from Stage 2 to Stage 3

Stage 3: AUCTION

- Managers are given £20M to buy players.

- Pre-auction, the team lists as of end of Stage 2 will be announced. The FA will post up the team values for each (based on the previous seasons' player values), and this will determine pick order in the auction.

- The FA will also announce pre-auction what the maximum number of players each team can bid on (i.e. if there are 4 teams and 35 players, teams will be made aware they cannot leave the auction with more than 9 players so as to unbalance the player distribution).

- Usual auction rules apply: £250k minimum bids, £1M starting bid.

- In a situation where teams have no money left but there are more than 1 player left in the auction, the remaining players will be allocated by the FA via random.org (done whilst in the auction room chat).

N.B. - No clubs savings from year to year

N.B.B. - Suggest that teams have until the Wednesday at midnight to discuss with their team and choose which team to go with for the season (assuming we stick with real teams and not just random pros).

------

A few things: the red figure amounts are estimates based on the current valuations for this season and running a few numbers through the system. We're up for debate on these amounts. Additionally we wondered if it might be worth waiting for the player valuations to be released (perhaps we could have a sneak peek before they're made public) and we could tweak these finances to accommodate all the goals set out.

If you feel we've missed anything (I'm sure there will be a few things) let us know.

This was the only player led proposal put forward.

The alternative option is an automated process that attempts to balance the teams based on value/positional preference/team preference. That currently does not exist and the details on it are not set.

Please use this thread to question/feedback on the above proposals. This thread will close on Thursday 26th and a poll will open for the player base to vote on the approach to take.

I did make a suggestion of doing a straight draft and not allowing any player retention at all - if you are going down the route of players having a 'value' and managers having a sum to use i'd suggest having a maximum bid allowed on players so people cant waste all their money on their preferred players like last time meaning we had a load of players who just had to get allocated, it made them feel shit.

Good work on putting a proposal together! I got halfway with one and failed to finish it >< funnily enough mine was very similar!

Couple of things:

-Retentions certainly be after the Transfers. (There should be no reimbursement. It should just be money not spent to be carried into the next stage)

-I dont see the point in the BSG though if you already have a cash value system. It also depends on how those values are worked out to.

-Could always add a more exciting layer at the top like we have done at the FTL with Perks:

12 Points to Spend

Attack Perks

3 - Tap players - Bring in the player for cost of x amount of value.

6 - XL Tap - Tap a player without needing player consent.

4 - Disrupt players - Player cannot resign for the current club. (Including in the Auction)

Defend Perks

3 - Tap Blocks - Block any attempt to Tap a current player.

6 - XL Tap Block - Block any attempt for a player to be XL Tapped.

4 - football friend - Block any attempt at disrupting one of your players.

Cash perks

5 - Transfer kitty - Increase your window 1 Funds by 10%

5 - Retaining Kitty - Increase your retaining Funds by 5%

3 - Step up by 1 in the Draft Picking Order

3 - Fresh Fish

2 - Team Selection

It's good to see something written down as a proposal.

Generally I think it's good, I would possibly lower it to just one additional player as numbers are too low and that's probably 1/2 a team in today's numbers. I quite like Steely's continuation of introducing perks into everything, I would probably add, the cost should be a percentage of the players value targeted & they should have a success rate attached.

As to the original do we need wages? Can we not just use the G/S/B to limit the players? 1 G 2 S any amount of B

Me and Graham nearly inv'd you into our PM thread Steel (should have!), but time pressures and us being too busy meant we didn't have time in the end and then we needed to get it together quick smart.

Agree with you and you too Gerry over the G/S/B vs £ conflict, ideally we wanted a scenario where they integrated nicely, but we did feel the limits in Stage 1 might ensure the best players are distributed more evenly. The published version is by no means without improvements though - hopefully some can be suggested here, we can go away and think about them and come back with a more polished version.

I like the perks idea a lot, it gives the manager role a bit more influence too. I just wasn't sure if it'd be too much added complex on top of a new system.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just had a thought for next season. We could go with everyone being a random number between 1- 35 except the managers for example and the only person that knows the numbers is Saint then we could go Into the online chat room and pick each number at random and we wont find out what team we are in until the very end when saint messages the managers and tells them who is in their team for that season.

I think this will give everyone a chance at being in any team and an element of sursprise
