Game Rage

Christ I've just come off PoP having ripped the CD from the PS2 tray and hurled it across the room.

I'm literally shaking from frustration.

Seeing as it's been sitting there unopened since Christmas I thought I'd give PoP a try earlier today. Loved it. Went to play it tonight expecting some nice relaxing platforming when all of a sudden up pops this fucking twatty moon puzzle which on any other day I probably would have taken my time and worked out quickly and easily. But tonight I wanted to jump on stuff so I tried to rush through the puzzle. Cue 30 minutes of me pushing the levers the wrong direction making the platform raise/rotate the wrong way working out what the hell I was doing.

Anyhoo did it eventually which led to some tasty platforming sections until....the big fight where you protect Farah (sp?). To cut a long story short - me dying, reversing time, it stopping exactly when I get hit THREE TIMES in a row. Game Over.

Raaaaarrrgghgggghghhhh.

Thing is, in half an hour, I'll want to play it again. ;)

Any other tales of game rage out there?

PoP, I'm stuck on this one REALLY annoying part where you have to run around.... I can't even explain it because it pisses me off. It's a shame as I want to do some platforming but I refuse to give it another go only to get done in by the computer again.

Is it in that room with water on the floor, with the box, god I wandered around for ages at that part.

No it's a setion with these really narrow walls (Where you first use the balance skill). There are birds everywhere and you have to flick a switch, navigate round this maze type plave and get through the walls and then run on a wall.... I know how to do it, I just can't ;)

Yeah, I know more or less the route it's just those fucking birds, and also if you misjudge something it's back to square one...

That level's timed too. Pure evil.

The puzzle that Links described annoyed me because it was so slow and cumbersome, thankfully there aren't many more levels like that though.

Thats the thing mate, in the end I just stopped, restarted the puzzle, examined it and quickly solved it. But when I first stumbled onto it I was like "Wha...?".

I just wanted to jump off stuff. ;)

The other thing that frustrates me is the majority of times its your fault that you've died. Either through recklessness or just not taking the time to stop and work your route through. Shows what a class game it is though.

Not like Mario Sunshine, where I scared my mate so much he turned the Gamecube off while I was playing through fear of my random spasms of rage.

PoP is a piece of piss. Well, ok, so a terrifying piece of piss, but not "hard". It's all skilllllllllll.

That bit where you don't have the THING is bloody annoying, though, as I didn't know you had to backtrack a tiny bit to get a save point. I almost put it down to bad level design. Then I found the save point.

Perfect in every fucking way.

Never mind annoying, what about embarrassing?

Playing KOTOR I 'danced' with Jai (?) three times to get her a dancing job and have never felt such a complete prat in my life - it was so bad that it has kind of put me off playing the game (well that and not being entirely convinced by the combat).

Kill the birds, then take your time on the puzzle element. To be fair everything's pretty forgiving cos if you plop off a wall you'll hang on anyway and the jumps aren't that hard. The timed factor is clever, took me a few minutes and a couple of tries to realise what the fcuk was going on but it's actually a nice touch.

F-Zero GX's Story levels can be a bit fustrating, to say the least.

So much so I'll start to talk to myself after 3 hours of bashing my car in chapter 8. Then I go numb and lose on propose, taking pleasure from losing.

Erm...which reminds me to go finsih that off sometime.

Chapter 8? Chapter 8?!

Try Chapter 2 mate. :)

I'm truly shit at games.

Gitaroo Man, however, left me grinning after tearing through it again recently. It's truly one of the finest games of this generation.

and the stupid bath puzzle (which was more trial and error than puzzle). Reminded me of a similarly irritating bit in Half Life.

I was furious with that the first time. The second time, I drifted through. How? Sounds.

The puzzle that I thought was "most badly implemented" was the "security system" puzzle. Far too generic, and far too early.

Do you mean the one where you're looking for Farrah?. If so, I thought that was one of the best puzzles in the game. Very subtle.
